The annual school fundraiser is coming up and twelve-year-old Carl Valles is excited about two things. He plans to sell the potatoes he had planted in their vegetable garden and looks forward to spending the outdoor family night with his mother.
But Carl soon learns that selling fresh produce has disadvantages. An unpredictable weather quickly disrupts his mother’s gardening routine and Carl is left to wonder why she fails to show up. He does not waste time and makes a rash decision to check on her.
Can Carl help his mother in time? And what about the vegetables she harvested for the farmer’s market? Will he let them go to waste, or will he
be able to sell them by himself?
