A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To Her Brother's Shotgun Wedding by Noreen Riley

"A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To Her Brother's Shotgun Wedding" is the story of Evelyn Dunleavy, her close knit circle of family and city-dwelling friends, and the chaos that ensues when her oldest sibling, Michael, announces that he is getting married. In London, where he now lives, to the girlfriend no one really knows. And by the way...she's pregnant.

The rest of the story follows Evie over to London for a few months as the official family delegate charged with getting to know her soon to be sister-in-law. It certainly doesn't hurt that because of his cramped living quarters her brother has lined up a room for her in the apartment of one of his groomsmen, Nate, that Evie feels an instant attraction to...despite his love of the music group ABBA, or the fact that he chooses curries over pizza. It doesn't help that Michael still considers his sister to be off-limits from the advances of his friends.

She comes to the quick conclusion that wedding planning can be stressful no matter which side of the Pond you hail from, and it's always more fun to have your best friends around you for a bachelorette party, especially when the bride-to-be is seven months pregnant.

About the Author

Noreen Riley graduated from the University of Scranton with a B.A. in English and a Business minor. After working for several years in New York City for some large investment banks, she left to raise her first son. One son quickly became three. She had always loved writing and decided to stop imagining finishing a novel and to actually do it. Trying to do so while raising three young boys proved to be a challenge she met by writing much of her book in the middle of the night. The dark shadows under her eyes were so prominent during that time frame that two people actually commented on them! She now resides in New Jersey with her husband and three boys.

This is a must have summer read for the beach. I immediately feel in love with the main character, Nate and wanted to fly over to London to snag him myself :-). Seriously a great read and would recommend it to anyone who loves a good romantic comedy!

A fantastic summer book to escape from the real world for a few hours. For those of us born in the 60's, 70' and 80's, you'll find yourself laughing out loud at the music and movie references, and you'll feel like many of the characters are saying/doing things that you and your friends could just as easily have said/done. I'm looking forward to the big screen version of this...Scarlet Johannson (or maybe a comeback role for Lindsay Lohan?) and Clive Owen filling the lead roles?

Bright, romantic and funny: That's how I would describe this book and its main character. Evie's an extremely sharp, quick witted, and funny character and will probably remind you of your funniest friend. You'll find yourself cheering for Evie (and laughing) all the way through the book. I am buying a copy for my wife, mother, sister and three daughters.

While on a beach vacation, I finished my last book. I was bummed so my wife suggested I read "A Funny Thing Happened" because she really enjoyed it. She was giggling the whole time she was reading it so I figured...why not? Glad I did. Much to my surprise, I really enjoyed this book that is not in my usual genre. The characters and the writing style were great! A great summer read!!

...you will LOVE this book! The pop culture references used by the author are hilarious. Noreen Riley brought me back to my silly single days with vivid clarity. After some years of reading mostly "mommy" books this chick lit was a welcome escape. I could totally relate to the characters (the mother is a riot). The story line left me wanting more. I hope a sequel is in the works!

Noreen Riley does a stand-up job as a first time author. Evie and her friends are characters that we can all relate with. The romance is there and makes you want to find your own "Nate". The book is witty and you will laugh at the pop culture referneces. By the time you finish, you'll be wishing there was a second book. The other characters are screaming for their story to be told. So, whether going to the beach, jumping on a plane or curling up on a rainy day, this is the book for you!

This book is just a whole lot of fun to read and very funny. The author certainly has a good sense of humor and a flair for story telling. The characters are very relatable, especially the more than slightly inappropriate mother. This book is great for when you want an easy read and to escape into another world for a little while.

You'll find yourself rooting for Evie and getting nervous for her too! This is an excellent fun, easy, quick pick me up book. I am already reading it for a second time!

I loved this book. The characters were well developed and easy to love (the mother made me laugh every time she appeared!). Grab this book, a glass of wine and kick your feet up...just get ready to laugh! Evie and Nate's relationship is bound to land on the big screen.
