It’s been three months since Jake Archer rolled into town, accused Mia Connors of murder and stole her heart. She hasn’t heard from him since. So when a man collapses at the fall Renaissance Faire, she’s surprised to see the US marshal arrive on scene. And shocked when he points the finger at her—again. Mia would sooner be able to resurrect the poor fellow than poison him.

Jake Archer’s career has been rising fast, but it's about to come to a crashing halt. The Ren-Faire victim was in protective custody—Jake’s custody—and they were painfully close to nabbing a major crime boss. If Jake doesn’t solve the murder soon, he’ll be fetching donuts instead of protecting his nation. A difficult enough task without the alluring Mia Connors in the way.

Working with Jake to catch the killer might push Mia into crazy-cat-lady territory. But with a murderer on the loose—and Mia's reputation on the line—they'll have to work fast to find the killer before the killer finds them.

Julie Anne Lindsey returns with her geeky sleuth, Mia Connors, in A Geek Girl's Guide to Arsenic. The Renaissance Faire is in full swing but comes to a temporary halt when a man dies suddenly. The murder weapon, poison. As the last person to speak with the victim after giving him a drink of wassail and a sample of Guinivere's Golden Beauty, Mia is once again fingered as a suspect. Only this time her grandmother's company also takes a hit. In order to keep business coming in and save the company's reputation, Mia decides to situate herself into the investigation. Newly appointed US Marshal Jake Archer returns to town to solve the mystery of who killed the man in his custody and to keep Mia out of the line of fire. As the killer remains elusive Mia and Jake find themselves stepping into the new territory of romance. The connection between them is begging to be explored, but we only get a little taste in this installment. This is a wonderful follow-up to A Geek Girl's Guide to Murder. Lindsey reminds us that Mia is a normal human affected by traumatic experiences. She struggles to deal with her previous experience with a murderer, but family comes first. She's determined to clear their name and bring her world back to some semblance of normal. Still no better at the art of reading social cues, Mia is unclear where she stands with Jake. Of course, we readers know where this is headed but the happily ever after is still way off. Featuring quirky characters and die-hard cosplayers A Geek Girl's Guide to Arsenic is perfect for fans of Cathy Yardley's Fandom Hearts series!

Reviewed by Suzanne and posted at Under The Covers Book Blog It’s been just over three months since Mia Connors found one of her best friend’s murdered body. It has also been 3 months since Mia has seen Jake Archer, the undercover FBI agent who has stolen her heart, after of course accusing her of murder. Now Jake is back in town…after a man is poisoned and dies right in front of Mia at her booth at the Renaissance Fair, and once again he seems to be investigating her for murder. The Geek Girl Mysteries are a new discovery for me, and what a find they are! This is the second installment in the series and I enjoyed it just as much, maybe more than I did the first book A Geek Girl’s Guide to Murder. Full of murder, mystery, a little romance, kooky family members and an ever kookier heroine, I can’t get enough of this series. What I like most about this series, and indeed this book, is the heroine and centre of all mischief Mia Connors. I love an eccentric heroine and she gets top marks in that regard, I also like a socially awkward and intelligent heroine, again top marks, so following along on her adventures in this book was a lot of fun. I admit, that I had guessed the who did it quite early on in the book, however, that didn’t stop me from enjoying every word. Especially as it wasn’t only the mystery that had me turning the pages. I am primarily a romance reader, not a mystery reader, so even the smallest hint of a little love? I am all over it. And the continuing saga between Jake and Mia keeps me reading as much as the mystery does. There seems to be progress between them in this book but I still find myself shouting encouragement down my kindle…MAKE A MOVE JAKE, is my most frequently shouted “help”, but it is almost enjoyable frustration and I cannot wait to see what happens between them in the next book. And what other mischief Mia can possible find herself in. This was such a fun read, if you haven’t started this series I recommend you give it a try, especially if you are after something light hearted and quirky to chill out with. I now eagerly anticipate the next book in the series!

This book was SO much fun to read. I highly recommend getting the rest in the series as well, for a full dive into Mia’s life and adventures. I have a great love for ren fests, and can be found, in costume, with my friends and family attending at least one each year. The look into the different areas of the fair, the different personalities of the performers and vendors, how invested or disinterested different individuals are in their immersion, was all amazingly well crafted and on point. The reader truly feels they are walking the grounds with Mia, experiencing that unique hum of activity one only finds at these events. The resolution to the mystery was fast, action-packed and kept me turning the pages in anticipation. I wished the book were longer, so we could get more explanation of everything that happened with the characters we’d met. Always the problem with the really good stories, more tale to be told, but you have to stop writing at some point to publish! My absolute favorite scene is the note on the napkin. I’d dare even to say it’s in my top five favorite scenes I’ve ever read. And now that I’ve gotten your curiosity, GO READ THIS BOOK! Mia’s voice and personality reminded me of Dahlia Moss, from a previous work I’ve reviewed. I now plan to gift both together to all my geek friends, as they are fantastic works!

Cozy mysteries are one of my go to genres for a great read. In my favorites, typically the sleuth is a fiesty female, bound and determined to do things her own way, most usually accompanied by a quirky side kick (or two), and butting heads with the long arm of the law - in some form or fashion. The Geek Girl Mysteries hit all the right buttons, and then top them by focusing on Geek culture. What's a Geek Girl who loves Mysteries to do? Grab this series, that's what. Several months have passed since the events at the end of book one. Mia has had some issues coping with the death of her best friend and co worker, and the attack that happened in her apartment. Plus she hasn't heard from Jake in all that time. So imagine her surprise when the Archer brothers show up after one of the Ren Faire folks dies from some kind of poisoning while talking to Mia at the Faire. Mia's not just a possible suspect. The local news films a piece casting suspicion on Guinevere's Golden Beauty products for the death, just as the company is in talks to begin moving their products to actual brick and mortar store shelves. Mia has to find the real killer before Grandma's business is irrevocably destroyed by bad press. The story was full of geek goodness from Cosplay to Furries and social media to gaming. Mia now lives and works in the Horseshoe Falls community, and we got to experience the joys of Pioneer days right along side her. The best part was learning more about Jake as he tried his best to keep up with Mia. My biggest complaint? The story went by too fast, and now I have to wait for the next book. I had an absolutely lovely time with this story and gave it 5 geeked out stars. Thanks to Great Escapes Tour, Netgalley and Carina Press for the opportunity to read and review this book.

As a fellow geek girl I am really enjoying Mia's adventures. The mystery is intriguing, the supporting characters colorful and entertaining and the chemistry with Jake will keep you on the edge of your seat. Looking forward to the next book in the series.

Title: A Geek Girl's Guide to Arsenic - Geek Girl Mystery Book 2 Author: Julie Anne Lindsey Published: 3-7-16 Publisher: Carina Press Pages: 248 Genre: Mystery, Thrillers & Suspense Sub Genre: Amateur Sleuths; Cozy Mystery; Women Sleuths ISBN: 978145929396 ASIN: B01PJ0M9A Reviewer: DelAnne Reviewed For: NetGalley . Her sister Bree it is time for Mia to get over Jake and settle down to married life and be happy like she is with a young professional accountant. Mia is busy avoiding the man when a local lothario drops dead in front of her family's booth at the Faire after sampling their products and some Wassail. Enter stage left US Marshall Jake Marshall. He takes over the investigation when he informs Mia the man was John Francis, whom he was suppose to keep safe until he testified against a mob boss in New Jersey. Jakes fast track career has just been derailed. When he again looks at Mia as a suspect things go from bad to worse. Mia picks up a stalker and now must clear her family of any involvement in the murder or their business will be ruined. Take a break and Mia, her crazy family and friends as the investigate. You can commiserate with Jake as he tries to save Mia from her interference into the police investigation. When I finish a new book I usually take a break to do some housework, grab a cup of tea, prep a meal or call some friends. That is not what happened when I finished A Geek Girl's Guide To Murder, the first book in this series. I immediately picked up with A Geek Girl's Guide to Arsenic and did not move until the last page. Housework ended up getting a lick and a promise, skipped the tea and prepared Sloppy Joes for dinner. I had no regrets. I had not read any of Julie Anne Lindsey's books before, but I will be reading more in the future. This book is fast paced with a plot that draws you in so that you feel you are participating in the story. I loved my Grandma Smith dearly, but I would love to had a Grandma Potter when I was growing up. All of are so well developed you will think you really know them and look forward to visiting them often. A Geek Girl's Guide to Arsenic is worthy of top rating of 5 out of 5 Stars.

Wow! This is a great follow up to book 1, A Geek Girl's Guide to Murder. This is smart and funny chick lit that follows Mia, an IT girl, as she struggles to make sense of her friend's death after he drops dead in front of her. As she's still reeling from his death, Jake is suddenly back in her orbit. Mia just doesn't know what to do with Jake - especially after not hearing from him for three months. Despite Jake's orders, Mia begins talking to people about her friend's death in an attempt to learn what happened. What follows is a very entertaining and very funny tale that kept me guessing until the end. I particularly like that Mia is a smart woman with enough quirkiness to make her endearing. If you enjoy Julie Moffett's Lexi Carmicheal series, you will love this book. If you enjoy chick lit, you will love this book, and, if you don't, this just might change your mind. I'm already looking forward to the next book in the series. The author is on my must read authors' list.
