A short ghost story.

Ruby Laurel is a ghost hunter. She locates ghosts who are haunting places – or people.

In this first story, Ruby is called upon to investigate a haunting in a supermarket. She soon discovers the ghost of a young woman called Mary Jackson. How is Mary connected to the supermarket? And why is she haunting it?

Ruby’s investigation is made more difficult by the arrival of her troublesome younger sister, Nessa. Will Nessa help, or hinder, the investigation?

I have read both Ms. Larkin' s "Haunted Series," with this one she had me hooked at the first scream. There is little doubt that she does this genre well. Mix in two not quiet steady young adults and it is going to be a bumby ride. Hold on for the ride because you will fall for the characters. A short ride, but one thats worth the ride.

I enjoyed reading this story. I only wish it were longer and more fully developed. I wanted to know all about each of the characters that were introduced. I really loved that it was set in Great Britain, and also that the story has a definite message. The characters have great personalities! I want to read the whole series, because this was a wonderful introduction!

A Ghost In The Store (Ruby And Nessa - Ghost Hunters Book 1) by Gillian Larkin is a great short story about a ghost hunter, her sister, and a ghost haunting a grocery store. I love this author's work and I love ghost stories. Put together and it comes out great! I received this book from the authors newsletter. I liked the second book a little better but I liked this one too! Love her ghost mysteries, she does ghosts and mysteries so awesome!!!

Ruby is a ghosthunter. Well, not so much a hunter as a ghost whisperer. Her job is finding out why a ghost is haunting a particular place; a supermarket, in this case. As a horror story, this fails. The worst this ghost does is say creepy things to young male shoppers in the baby aisle. The plot itself is interesting, but Ruby has surprising little difficulty tracking down who the ghost is, as well as a child taken away at birth. While church records often contain the birth and death of local people, I find it difficult to believe the custodian of local history immediately finds a picture of a group of women from the late 1800's to early 1900's, then uses a picture of the ghost from Ruby and facial recognition software to identify the ghost. The story starts so abruptly I double checked this was the first story in a series of two. It was like starting a book in the second chapter. The storytelling does smooth out as the plot continues. There is nothing about the main character, Ruby, that makes her stand out from the rather dry and stereotypical secondary characters. Even the inclusion of her troubled younger sister does not cause any sparks. The story could easily be edited down to shorter, but with more excitement. It's a quick read with an interesting plot.
