Mum gave me nightmares.

This was the cheekiest book ever from this author. This was too funny something not found at a funeral home. The mother was so over the top Church Lady, she sees sin in everything. The funniest comment, in my opinion, was the mother was supposed to be at Church, after she called an emergency protest meeting over Devil's Food Cake. Somehow, compared to the mother, the daughter, talking ghosts, Rock & Roll funerals, were all so normal.

One of my favorite series by Morgana Best! Captivating characters and a storyline that's a bit different, refreshing. Laurel and her unique friends and family, including the ghosts that come with the funeral home, are intriguing and I can't wait to know them better. Also I can't wait to see what happens with the sheep... Great characters, interesting plot, easy to loose yourself in. Can't wait to start the next book in the series.

A Ghost of a Chance (Witch Woods Funeral Home Book 1) by Morgana Best A Ghost of a Chance is the first book in Morgana Best's Witch Woods Funeral Home Series. Laurel Bay has come home to Witch Woods in New South Wales from where she has been living and working in Melbourne, for the sad occasion of her father Larry's funeral. Laurel and her mother have always butted heads, so living three days away by car has worked well for Laurel. But then her dad's will is read, and while her mother has inherited the family home and the land it is on, Laurel has inherited the family business, Witch Woods Funeral Home, and its surrounding property. As Laurel has been able to see and communicate with ghosts as long as she can recall, this may not be such a good match. However her father was adamant that either Laurel take charge of the business or it was to be sold. A dead body, and not the one that is supposed to be in the casket, appears at the first funeral held after Laurel takes charge. With the young lady appearing to Laurel asking her to help find out who did this to her, Laurel feels compelled to help her. Throw in old friends, a new handsome accountant, the need for added revenue, and an overly religious mother, and you have a story rich with humor, compassion, and otherworldliness. I enjoyed this book so much I read it in one day! I recommend this book!

I would call the mother obnoxious, and not just because of her brand of blatantly hypocritical religiosity. But Laurel is barely managing not to strangle her. So, there's the resident ghost, the temporary ghost who wants her murder solved, the droolworthy accountant, the KISS funeral, the Elvis funeral, and the rest of the town. I loved it and it was a real gigglefest!

Laurel Bay came home to Witch Woods from her home in Melbourne just to attend her father’s funeral and help her mother as much as she could during this difficult time. Her father’s funeral takes place in the family owned, and operated, funeral home. At the reading of the will, Lauren and her mother are in for a few surprises! Laurel’s mother, Thelma, gets the house behind the funeral home and the land it sits on. She also gets her husband’s savings account, but is not satisfied. Laurel inherits the funeral home itself and her father requested that Laurel manage it herself! Laurel is torn between her life in Melbourne and her desire to honor her father’s wishes. With the first funeral she manages, things start to get interesting. Laurel goes against company policy and allows a young man see his beloved grandmother one last time before she is buried. But there is a problem, Grandma isn’t alone in the casket! Grandma has company, a young woman who was stabbed in the back. Now, Laurel has her hands full. Can Laurel find who stabbed the young womanand left her in the casket with Grandma? Can she keep her mother out of the funeral home's bank accounts? Can she regain some of the business that was lost to the new franchise funeral home near Witch Woods? Can she resist her attraction for her accountant? Or will she simply move back to Melbourne and turn everything over to her fanatically religious mother? Laurel faces her problems and concerns with squared shoulders and a patience that one doesn’t often see. Morgana Best has created a unique set of circumstances and characters that create a wonderful read that is very hard to put down. I look forward to reading more of the Witch Woods Funeral Home series.

I loved this series! A couple chuckles had my hubby wondering what I was reading. Trying to run her Father's funeral home when she can sees ghosts can be trying and more so when there is a murder on premises. Her Mom is a real piece of work, glad she is not mine! You gotta read this series. It will get you hooked on the rest of her works.
