That ghost sure looks . . . familiar

Only a handful of people know that Emma Lee Raines, proprietor of a small-town Kentucky funeral home, is a “Betweener.” She helps ghosts stuck between here and the ever-after—murdered ghosts. Once Emma Lee gets them justice they can cross over to the great beyond.

But Emma Lee’s own sister refuses to believe in her special ability. In fact, the Raines sisters have barely gotten along since Charlotte Rae left the family business for the competition. After a doozy of an argument, Emma Lee is relieved to see Charlotte Rae back home to make nice. Until she realizes her usually snorting, sarcastic, family-ditching sister is a . . . ghost.

Charlotte Rae has no earthly idea who murdered her or why. With her heart in tatters, Emma Lee relies more than ever on her sexy beau, Sheriff Jack Henry Ross…because this time, catching a killer means the Raines sisters will have to make peace with each other first.

Out of the first six books in the series. This is the one that tugged at my heart. It certainly had its funny parts, but Charlotte's death and how it affected the whole town was amazing. It was also good to see how Charlotte didn't just think about herself in the end. The closure was great between the two sisters, it's too bad a tragic incident would have to occur for siblings to learn "family comes first."

Emma Lee is a betweener, she sees ghosts of murdered people and helps to cross them over. This story hits close to home for her when it is her own sister that she must help. Her discovering this was so real with gamut of emotions that she went through. I found this to be a great twist to the series, honestly I never liked Charlotte anyway. This being said, Charlotte as a ghost started to show a different personality that would have made her much more likable in previous books. I had to laugh that even though she's dead Emma Lee and her still would get into sister squabbles. The mystery was good although it was a little hard to piece together as to who did it, I may have missed something. I was given quite a few laughs through the book, Emma Lee is such a strong character but lovable, and I love her relationship with Jack Henry he is such a steady influence to her impulsiveness, a great combo. The ending when Charlotte crosses over I found touching, good for them to have some closure with each other. I will continue on with this series.

Emma Lee Raines runs a small town in Kentucky’s funeral home. Her sister, Charlotte Rae works for the competition. Sibling rivalry goes a long way, especially when Charlotte is murdered. Emma wants to solve the murder; with the help of Sheriff Jack Henry, so her sister can move on. Humor, sadness and paranormal activities are throughout this great read!

Emma Lee Raines works in the family mortuary. Emma and her sister are part owners but Charlotte Rae decided to work for the competition. The girls don’t get along and Emma and her grandmother are trying to get Charlotte to sign over her part of the mortuary. But then Charlotte shows up as a ghost. Although the sisters had differences, Emma is going to help solve her sister’s murder so she can pass on. With the help of her sexy boyfriend Sheriff Jack Henry and Charlotte Emma is up against her hardest case. I recently read book A Ghostly Reunion, which had me hooked for this one. I felt for Emma and the differences she had with Charlotte but it broke my heart when she learned that she had been murdered. But she was going to do her job and help her sister move on. I loved the whole mystery, I never expected the killer but it all made sense when I looked back. If you like your cozy mysteries with a touch of humor and paranormal aspects then look no further. This book will have you tearing up and laughing at the same time. This is a great series and I will have to make sure to get the books that I am missing to see what happened from the start. I received A Ghostly Mortality from Partners in Crime Virtual Book Tours for free. This has no influenced my opinion in any way.

Having followed this series from the beginning, it’s good to be back with these characters. Emma Lee still suffers from what the town folk refer to as Funeral Trauma. They think she’s a bit off her rocker. I’m surprised she isn’t after having to deal with problems from beyond the grave. She’s a Betweener. She’s sees the ghosts of murder victims. It used to be confined to the ones whose last stop is her funeral home. But that appears to be changing. Also, it may not be confined to just deceased humans. Her ability hits too close to home when the ghost of her sister comes to her for help. Now, Emma Lee is having to cope with her grief and trying to mend the fences of a sibling relationship that was on the rocks, while also solving her murder. This was fun and had some new twists. Reading the book was fast. And I really enjoyed the interactions between Emma Lee and her sister, Charlotte Rae. I’m the youngest of four sisters and, even though we’re all very different and have our share of disagreements, we still love each other. A couple of brief scenes was all it took to make me weepy. I was quite happy with the surprises and the mystery involved in this one. Visiting with the colorful and sometimes wacky characters in this series felt like coming home again and you can bet I’ll be waiting for the next book, and the next….

2.5 stars I had liked the previous book in this series and after the ending and set up for this book, I was eager to start it. Sadly it fell flat for me. I do like Emma. She's smart and curious and I enjoy how she never listens to what she's told. Sure, sometimes that particular plot device gets old, but it's mostly amusing. This time around, the townspeople were a little closer to the annoying side. The main plot arc was intriguing and not what I was expecting. And yet, I was more interested in just getting to the end more than finding out who it was. I can definitely see how people with enjoy these books, but for me it's missing something. I doubt I'll be reading any others from the series. **Huge thanks to Witness and Edelweiss for providing the arc free of charge**

This is a great book; this is the sixth book in the Ghostly Southern Mystery series written by Tonya Kappes. I couldn't wait to read this book, it is one of my favorite series. Emma Lee Raines is the owner of a small town funeral home and is also a “Betweener”. She helps ghosts who are stuck between here and the ever after, in order to help them she has to solve their murders. But Emma Lee’s own sister refuses to believe in her special ability. In fact, the Raines sisters have barely gotten along since Charlotte Rae left the family business for the competition. After a doozy of an argument, Emma Lee is relieved to see Charlotte Rae back home to make nice. Until she realizes her usually snorting, sarcastic, family-ditching sister is a ghost. This is a great book with a wonderful story and well developed characters. This book will keep you reading long into the night. If you are looking for a great book, then you need to read this book. I am looking forward to reading the next book by this great author. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader’s copy of this book. The free book held no determination on my personal review.

Emma Lee Raines is the undertaker at Eternal Slumber Funeral Home that her family owns. Emma Lee has 'funeral trama' after being hit on the head by a plastic Santa that fell off the roof of a local store. She can see and talk to her clients that are dead and called betweeners because they cannot move on until she helps solve their murder. There are only two people who know she can see ghosts and talk to them. Everyone else just thinks she is crazy when they see her talking to herself. Emma Lee is with her Franny, Zula Fae Raines Payne, at Hargrove's Legacy Center in Lexington where her sister, Charlotte Rae, has taken a job. Charlotte Rae takes them on a tour and ends up listening to an unhappy Mother of the Bride. She doesn't want her daughter's flowers to smell like funeral flowers. Granny cannot believe they do weddings, christenings and funerals in the same place. It is nice to return to Sleepy Hollow. Sleepy Hollow is like most small town with a mix of people from all walks of life. Granny is a character and then there is Sheriff Jack Henry Ross, Emma Lee's boyfriend. There is something happening every minute so grab a copy of A Ghostly Morality and begin the visit to Sleepy Hollow.

Make sure you have tissues handy! Anyone who has a sibling or siblings can relate to Emma Lee and Charlotte's relationship. The rivalry, the arguments. When a dead Charlotte appears to Emma Lee at the family's Eternal Slumber funeral home, Emma Lee is caught off guard. This is HER SISTER. Her murdered sister. They did not get along in life, but Charlotte, in death, needs Emma Lee to solve her murder so she can cross over. I very much enjoyed Emma Lee and Granny's predicaments, the introduction of the ghost cat, and Emma Lee's ongoing romance with the handsome sheriff, but I did find this addition to the series more poignant and heart-tugging, due to the fact that Emma Lee is trying to solve her sister's murder. The book ends with the introduction of a new Betweener client as well as a hint of what's to come in Emma Lee's personal life. I can't wait for the next chapter in Emma Lee's adventures!

ANOTHER WINNER!! Even though Emma Lee Raines has been around the Funeral Home business all her life. She is now the proprietor of the her family's Eternal Slumber Funeral Home. She is also a "betweener" helping those who are "stuck" (because they were murdered) and can't cross on to the other side. Her latest customer is one she never expected so soon - her older sister Charlotte. As with all the other books in this series, this plot will lead you on a hilarious tale through life in a small town. A Ghostly Mortality won't disappoint as it's filled with love, family, friendships, enemies, and a mystery that will blindside you!
