Overview

Miriam Hastings has her future plans in place...
But Trygve Knutson is intent on changing them.

Just a few short weeks into her year-long training at the Blessing Hospital, Miriam Hastings is called home to Chicago, where her mother is gravely ill. With siblings to care for, Miriam pleads to be allowed to finish her training in Chicago. Her nursing supervisor grants her a brief reprieve but extracts a promise that Miriam will return to Blessing and fulfill her one-year commitment.

While in Chicago, Miriam has tried to get Trygve Knutson and Blessing out of her mind, but his letters make that impossible. Trygve is busy building a house, hoping he can convince Miriam to return to North Dakota and marry him. Torn between Trygve's love and her family's needs, she doesn't know what to do.

When Miriam finally returns to Blessing, she buries herself in her work. But no matter how hard she tries to put it off, she has some life-changing decisions to make about her future, her family... and the man who is never far from her thoughts.

What will it take to convince her to stay?

I was thrilled to see the second book of the Song of Blessing series on my list of books to choose from.  Lauraine Snelling continues to be one of my all time favorite authors and this book did not disappoint me. Miriam Hastings is home in Chicago, taking care of her siblings following the death of their mother.  She is continuing her nursing training and longing for the life and people she left behind in Blessing.  She knows that she will be returning to Blessing for another year and isn’t sure how that will fit into her life now.  But letters from Trygve Knutson continue to reach her and mix up her mind and heart. Trygve is home, in Blessing, building a house and loving Miriam from afar.  Life in Blessing is also not very simple right now as characters we remember from the last series struggle to make ends meet and fight for their way of life.  When Miriam finally returns to Blessing, and plunges straight into work, she finds herself up against more and more decisions.  Her siblings need her, others are asking more and more of her, and Trygve is claiming space in her heart. Where will Miriam end up in the end?  Back in Chicago?  Or at home in Blessing? My Thoughts… I loved this book!  The nursing side story is fascinating to me and the characters are full and rich.  The Godly theme though the whole book is refreshing, I love how Snelling weaves the Gospel and God’s love into all her books. Highly recommended.

Lauraine Snelling has really good character and growth, keeping the theme of love and grace in the midst of tragedy and loss. After the death of Ingeborg’s husband Haakan in the previous novel, she has to learn to live the rest of her life without him, leaning on her faith and family for strength. And Miriam, losing her mother and having to leave her siblings on their own. I forget sometimes the way the world used to be and sometimes still is. Now torn between her family and the growing love burning for Trygve, she has a choice to make that will break her heart either way. But what is faith without hope? A great sequel! It took me a while to really get into it but once you do you’ll love it too! I give this book a 4 out of 5! I received this book for free from the publisher in exchange for this honest and unbiased review as part Bethany House blogging for book program.

Another great book by Lauraine. I am still enjoying this series and this book shows how the town is still being 'blessed'. Even with having to deal with catastrophe's and immigrants moving in, the town manages to keep their faith and grow. Lauraine shows how the town always pulls together to honor their name Blessing, ND. I would highly recommend this book, this series, as a good read.

Miriam Hastings is training as a nurse in Chicago in 1905. Her desire to be a nurse goes further than loving the vocation. She wants to be able to support her sick, widowed mother and young siblings that are forced to live in poverty. She finds herself with the opportunity of a lifetime: to train in a small hospital in Blessing, North Dakota. After just a few weeks, she is called back home as her mother has taken a turn for the worst. Although she wants to remain in Chicago, she is forced to return and finish out her year of training. On the other hand, she finds herself unable to suppress her growing feelings for Trygve Knutson. He and his family, the Bjorklunds, are back bone and leaders of the fast growing, predominately Norwegian town. His family wraps her in love an acceptance. Her heart is torn between a life with Trygve in a town she adores and her family whom she loves so much. No matter what she does, she realizes she must make a choice and both will cause heartache. I felt I was a part of Blessings, and through reading the book dreamed about how wonderful it would be to live in such a place. Life is simple but filled with hard fulfilling work. Whatever crisis might be faced, everyone rallies to shoulder the burden and help. I felt a part of the family’s closeness and interactions. Even though it was just a story, it gave me feelings of warmth and happiness. I appreciated that the story was not a gushy portrayal a blissful life. The author showed the other side of misunderstandings, losses, grief, heartache, and problems. What makes it special is how each character works through these real life dilemmas based on their strong faith in God, biblical wisdom, and constant prayer. An uplifting story that you will find a “blessing” to read! I received this book free from Bethany House Publishers. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have stated are my own.

This book gives a wonderful glimpse into the lives of people who populated the small towns in Mid-America in the early 1900s. Miriam Hastings is torn between her brothers and sisters she left behind in Chicago and her new life as a nurse at the hospital in Blessing, North Dakota. She is blessed as she is introduced to the wonderful Bjorklund family and discovers romance and purpose.  She is amazed at how her nursing skills are expanded and tested in this small town. This is the second book in “The Song of Blessing” series.  You will fall in love with the characters of Blessing and experience the happenings of their lives as they live through fires, robberies, illness, and death. Yet the negative is overcome through Christ as shown in the lives of this wonderful Bjorklund family.  There are twists and turns that will keep you guessing, and if you enjoy historical fiction, you’ll love this book as well as other books about the Bjorklund family.

A Harvest of Hope is book two in the Song of Blessing series.  I would recommend reading book one, To Everything a Season, but it is not necessary to enjoy this book.  Snelling does a great job at making the characters stick with you.  The Song of Blessing series is based in a lovely town called Blessing.  The main characters are from all over, but most live in Blessing.  Blessing is a growing town that needs as many workers as it can get.  There are so many people that immigrated there, that they some are living in tents while waiting for housing to be built.  Snelling did a great job at making even the secondary characters interesting, and made me care about what they are going through, and had me pulling for them. Trygve Knutson loves a girl that left on a train to see her ailing mother, and he hopes when she finally comes back from Chicago she’ll return his feelings.  Miriam is a nursing student who was sent to Blessing to have some hands on training that wouldn’t be available in Chicago. The town of Blessing will take all the nursing help it can get.  Miriam had no plans of falling in love with someone while away on training, and she really doesn’t even know what that would feel like.  Can Trygve show Miriam what true love is and talk her into calling Blessing her home?  Will Miriam admit her feelings for Trygve or just ignore them?   I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys historical fiction.   It is full of twists and turns and events you don’t see coming.  I can’t wait to read the next in the series and know that you will feel the same way too.  I received a copy of this book from Netgalley and Bethany House Publishers in exchange for my honest opinion.  All opinions expressed are my own.

This book is centered in the town of Blessing, a small town where there is much love, as well as, some ornery characters. Astrid and Elizabeth are doctor's at Blessing's hospital. They are working on training nurses with lots of hands-on experience. This is where Miriam comes in.  Miriam came as a nurse-in-training from Chicago. When her mother became deathly ill she returned to Chicago to put her to rest as well as check on her brothers and sisters. She is torn between her commitment to her studies, her family, and the man she is beginning to love. She is struggling between returning to Chicago when she finishes her schooling or moving her family to Blessing. Miriam is a woman of integrity, determined no matter what the cost to keep her word. Which of course is part of what Trygve admires so much about her, and part of what makes her indecisive about their relationship having any future possibilities. I feel like this story is not just a romance about Miriam and Trygve, but a well-rounded tale of people and families who worked together to build a community. They followed God's calling to love each other, and extend His love to the unlovable. You will be able to participate in the joys and sorrows, see the love and forgiveness, and watch as they extend grace and mercy to their fellowman.  I enjoyed this book even though it wasn't a fast paced, action packed page turner. It was more like watching lives unfold like flowers as the characters grow and bloom. It was as though, I myself were part of the townspeople, participating in their story, becoming a part of their lives. I think it helps to have read the first book in the series to really grasp everything that is going on in this book. I was blessed with this book by Bethany House Blogger Program in exchange for my honest opinion.

This is the second book in the Song of Blessing series. I would recommend reading the first one, To Everything a Season, first. I have not read the first one and had a difficult time keeping everyone straight. According to one review there is a family tree on the paperback version which would have helped me I think. I also feel I was missing some of the history of the families, but could still keep the story line straight. I did feel a little lost at times, especially in the first half, but could still enjoy the book. This novel is focused on Miriam Hastings and Trygve Knutson, yet Trygve's family are all major players. This is more than your typical romance. The whole town is facing many changes. They experience growth, more immigrants, some prejudices and trials. You will fall in love with many of the characters in this book and also want to slap a couple of them. To watch the Knutson and Bjorklund Families keep their faith throughout all the trials they face in their daily life is very encouraging. Miriam will learn a lot from these wonderful people.  Lauraine Snelling writes with passion and even though the people and town are fictional they really come to life. Their problems trials and victories become very real. I was given a copy of this ebook from net galley for my honest opinion.

As the first book ended I couldn’t wait for this one to come along, and it didn’t disappoint. I still have some more questions that need answers, and again I need to wait. Welcome back, yes, Miriam returns, Manny is blossoming, family is still dealing with their grief, and we meet new problems as life goes on in Blessing. So much has happened, and it continues in this faith-based community, the way these people rally around at times of disaster is remarkable. Lessons could be learned here. We continue with Trygve and his wanting to spend his life with Miriam, but can she commit to him? She has so much responsibility on her shoulders, and we are with her as she tries to struggle with life problems. Will she be able to find love in Blessing? Oh how I loved my visit her, and of course, there is always one who causes dissent, guess that is life. Find how this town deals with some of the hard parts of life. I for one never wanted this book to end, and yet it became a page-turner to learn how things come out. Pick up this read; you will not be disappointed, only that it had to end. I received this book through Bethany House Bloggers Tours, and was not required to give a positive review.

A Harvest of Hope is a much-anticipated continuation of the Song of Blessing series! I highly recommend reading book one, To Everything a Season, before reading A Harvest of Hope. Several important events occur in the first book and set the stage for this second story. Lauraine Snelling does a wonderful job of bringing the characters and community to life, and I was eager to return to this quaint community in North Dakota. I really enjoyed the historical details, as well as the complexity of the characters and their stories. The drama continues, as does the romance between Miriam and Trygve, creating an emotional narrative. Blessing is a lovely place to visit and I look forward to continuing this compelling series! Please note: This series is a continuation of Lauraine’s earlier stories of the Bjorkland family and the community of Blessing. If you are a long-time fan, you will certainly welcome the opportunity to revisit these special characters and this unique community. For those who are not familiar with these stories, you may find the large, diverse cast of characters to be a bit overwhelming at first. A Bjorkland family tree has been included in the beginning of the book for reference. A complimentary copy of this book was provided to me through the Bethany House Blogger Reviewer program. I appreciate the opportunity to read this story and share my honest opinion.

My Take: A Harvest of Hope by Lauraine Snelling is the second book in the Song of Blessing series. It picks up a few weeks after the first book (To everything A season) ended. The Bjorklund Family is deeply mourning the loss of their beloved Haakan and they are trying to find a new normal to their way of life. Miriam, a trainee at the blessing hospital, is also mourning the loss of her mother. She is torn with knowing where she belongs. Her siblings are all in Chicago and as the oldest she feels obligated to care for them, but her heart is beginning to tie her to blessing. Trygve has declared his love for her and she's starting to have feelings for him as well. She is struggling with her faith and now she must make some decisions for her future. Will she choose blessing or Chicago? I am always excited to get a 'blessing' book from Lauraine Snelling I've been reading about the Bjorklund family through Lauren's writings for years and I have come to love this family, getting a new book is like getting a letter from an old friend. But my review on the previous book in this series (To everything a season) could also apply to this book in the same way, it's a great book if you know the backstorys but otherwise you'll probably be majorly confused because there is a lot of characters to keep up with. All in all this is a great book -- fun, easy, lighthearted (for the most part) I'm looking forward to the next book in the series! I recommend this book if you are a fan of Lauraine Snellings Red River Valley series. Read my review of book #1 To Everything A Season Here Previous series include: #1 Red River Of The North #2 Return To Red River #3 Home To Blessing #4 Daughters Of Blessing #5 Song Of Blessing Read a sample chapter here *I received this book for free from Bethany House Publishers in exchange for my honest review.

A HARVEST OF HOPE Song of Blessing -Book 2 By Lauraine Snelling This book is part of the Song of Blessing collection, if you are not familiar with the collection, do not worry. The author introduces you to each character, so you will not miss out on the story. The time is 1905 in Blessing, ND, a small growing town with a new hospital and some growing pains. Miriam, a nursing student, is returning after a family emergency in Chicago. She is in Blessing working at the hospital as part of her schooling. Lauraine does a great job describing the time period and the people of Blessing, she makes you feel like you are there and part of the story. There is romance, humor and troubles in the town, but most of all there is God. Lauraine uses scripture verses throughout the story and shows how a belief in God is very important in all parts of our lives. The people come together to face many problems that take place in their small town and the author shows how their faith gets them through each problem. I have not read any of the other books in this collection, but would definitely read the others and would recommend any books by this author. I received this book free from Bethany House for purpose of this review, I was not required to write a positive review, the opinions I have expressed are my own.

It is always fun to catch up with characters you are invested in and it was a joy to travel back to Blessing to catch up with Lauraine’s characters in Harvest of Hope. Although the book started out slow, once I was in the book, I could not put it down.  I wanted to see what happened to each of the characters in the town of Blessing. Hope, loss, love, anger, forgiveness are all themes woven into this heartwarming story.  There is a character you would love to punch, ones you would love to hug, and ones you would love to send an encouraging word too.  It is lovely to see how the town struggles but come together to support each other.  My favorite theme from Harvest of Hope is trusting in God and knowing He is in control of our future.  This book will encourage you and leave you looking forward to the next installment.  I give this book this book a 5 star review.

A Harvest of Hope by Lauraine Snelling is the second book in the Song of Blessing series. It is just wonderful. It picks up a couple of weeks after the first book (To Everything a Season) ended. Miriam is still in Chicago after the death of her mother. She is making sure that her family will be okay while she returns to Blessing to finish her training. Trygve Knutson is in love with Miriam and cannot wait for her to return to Blessing. He writes to her while she is away and is working on a house for them (as well as her siblings). After Miriam returns to Blessing, a fire destroys the grain mill and harms many buildings in the town. A meeting is called to assess the damages and see how much money is available through the bank to help with rebuilding. Something fishy is going on at the bank. The banker and his wife are acting strangely. The members of the town set out to see what is happening and how to fix the problem. Ingeborg is still recovering from the loss of her husband, Haakan. It is harder than she thought to keep going and get through each day without the love of her life. It helps that she has such a loving family as well as Inga, Emmy, and Manny. A Harvest of Hope is such a good book and I enjoy returning to this wonderful community. I enjoyed A Harvest of Hope very much and eagerly look forward to the next book in the Song of Blessing series. I give A Harvest of Hope 5 out of 5 stars. I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
