Viscountess Charlotte Haliday has lost her illusions. Scandal took her position in society and the husband she thought she loved, and his mysterious murder followed shortly thereafter. But now is the time to return to London, time to find whatever small portion of happiness remains to her.
The first step will be proving she is her own person, unafraid of the lies and deceit that came before. Then she will defy her father and all others who try to steal her independence. Never again will Charlotte have a husband or seek the perfect marriage of her best friend Jane, but perhaps she will dare the wrath of the gossip-mongers and indulge her tiniest desire. To do so will bring her face to face with a stranger in an alcove. It will lead to learning Mr. David Scott is not only a war hero soon to be awarded the Victoria Cross, but also the most formidable man she has ever met. Broken in every way except the ones that count, he just might make her believe in love. And only she can show him that he is not alone.

"I don't need to walk. Why walk when I can soar?" David said. The emotions that literally gripped my heart would not let go until the end. This is one of the best books I have read this year. Every story by Sheri Humphreys has been phenomenal and I just cannot say enough about them, especially this one. Her writing makes you truly feel the emotions of the characters and literally hold your breath waiting to see how everything turns out. The title is so appropriate and as you get to know David Scott, there is no doubt he is a literally a hero but one on the inside as well, although he feels broken on the outside. Charlotte is also broken but the other way around. Beautiful but so disillusioned and devoid of trust. But as fate brings them together and their attraction ignites, there is a force trying to bring harm to Charlotte that may win in the end. I know, as in all of her books, I will be thinking about this story for awhile. So emotional and thought provoking I would give this a 10*** if I could.. Definitely a keeper!!
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Charlotte Haliday is a woman wounded by scandal and left emotionally crippled by her husband’s betrayal. David Scott is a wounded warrior confined to a wheelchair. Rejected by his last love because of his disability, he builds walls around his heart. A Hero to Hold is a complicated love affair revealing raw emotion and heart aching romance. The characters are wonderfully complex and real. Very steamy romance. Couldn’t put it down.
Kept me turning pages late into the night!
Sheri Humphrey is a new author to me so I wasn't quite sure what to expect when I purchased A Hero to Hold. What I got was a phenomenal read that put me right smack in the middle of London during the 1857 Victorian era. The story reads from beginning to end like a great movie. Charlotte Haliday thought she knew love until a series of events in her life uncovered the truth. With a wounded heart, she is unsure if she could love again. In A Hero to Hold, there is no ‘Knight and Shining Armor’ that comes in and sweeps her off her feet, but there is David Scott, a wounded solider confined to a wheelchair. A Hero to Hold touch’s on some of the most raw emotions that one feels when hurt, as well as the struggle just to feel normal again. There were several times in this book, that I had to stop and give pause to my vulnerabilities and the way I love. When an author make you pause and think, you know it’s good writing. Bravo to this very talented author for taking my heart on a well needed journey. A Hero to Hold will surely make my top ten favorite books for 2016.
