About the Author

USA Today Bestselling Author Tessa Layne loves cowboys, wild places, and writing about tenderhearted tough guys and the smart, sassy women they fall for.

When she's not madly writing, driving the mommy taxi, skiing downhill at breakneck speed, or herding cats, she can be found on her front porch swing, sipping a glass of rosé, and listening to her own cowboy pluck his guitar.

Amazing! Just when I think I've read the best book ever Tessa Layne writes an even better book. Travis and Elaine are wonderful characters and there wasn't a minute I wasn't rooting for them! Ms. Layne does a perfect job blending together this story of heartache and love everlasting. There is mystery, romance, and you can't help but feel part of the town. I enjoyed meeting some of old friends from prior books. And I look forward to visiting with new friends in the next book is this new series.

Truly heartwarming story. Trials & tribulation wrapped in forgiveness & love. Second chances abound. Hope is never lost. Endings are often the beginning and this book was no exception!

I loved Travis and Elaine's story. The characters were developed and well written and the plot was fast paced and entertaining. Love the cowboy/military small town vibe this story has. An excellent read from Tessa. I really enjoyed this story and look forward to reading the next one in the series. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.

Travis Kincaid has been the police chief of Flint Hills for longer than Elaine has been in town, but she has been in awe of him from the beginning. He always treated her as if she mattered. Travis has been drawn to Elaine since he first saw her, but he has rules that he follows and that keeps him from moving forward with anyway with Elaine. Even though he can not get her out of his head. When Travis runs for Sheriff he needs a campaign treasurer and Elaine is great at numbers, and as they work together they can not deny their mutual attraction and where it leads. But Elaine has had a hard life and has done her best to make it through even if that meant not always being on the straight and narrow. Flint Hills is her second chance, but will the past ruin her future? And can Travis, a rule follower, be what Elaine needs? This was a wonderful start to a new series spin off of Flint Hills and it is great that all the other characters are still there. It is awesome how the books overlap. I can not wait to see more of Flint Hills and its crazy wonderful cast of characters.

ARC for honest review with no compensation A Hero’s Honor, Resolution Ranch is book 1 in the Flint Hills Military Heroes series by Tessa Layne and an excellent start for this military series and the beginning of Resolution Ranch which is to help those returning home to have a place to ease back into civilian life. We first read about Travis and Elaine in the series Cowboys of Flint Hills series and now the homegrown boys are coming back home to Prairie. Travis Kincaid is a homegrown man of Prairie, Kansas who left for the military and became a Navy Seal. For years he served his country until one dangerous mission and they lost half of the team. He blames himself for the loss of his men and left the military to return home to become the Police Chief. He takes pride in keeping his town and the people safe until a tornado swirls through the town and destroys most of it. Now the nightmares have come back for his service days with a vengeance and he is getting no sleep but the best part of his day is seeing Elaine at the diner for his daily coffee and just her presence helps him to settle him. Elaine Ryder is a single mom who is trying to make ends meet with two jobs since the town was destroyed by a tornado and to find a way to help her son return to the happy boy he was before the tornado hit. She looks forward to Travis coming to the diner for coffee but she thinks she is not good enough for the Chief of Police due to her not so nice past but she knows there is a deep connection between them. Can these two find a way to get over the things in their past and move forward to find their HEA and help rebuild Prairie to be better than ever or will the past keep them apart??

A Hero’s Honor: Resolution Ranch (Flint Hills Military Heroes Book 1) by Tessa Layne This is Travis Kincaid and Elaine Ryder’s Story. Travis and Elaine paths cross and the chemistry is hot between them. They try to ignore this chemistry since they are both dealing with some difficult issues. Travis and Elaine are perfect for each other if they will just give themselves a chance. This is an emotional and heartwarming story. I loved the characters and enjoyed Elaine’s son’s character too. FYI, contains mature content. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

This is book 1 of Ms Layne’s new spinoff series titled Military Heroes of the Flint Hills. I had not read any other books by this author and have to say that I truly enjoyed this story. I do have a caveat. Though it is considered a stand alone, the assumption is made that the reader has read books in her series the Cowboys of the Flint Hills. References are made about a tornado that had occurred in those books, which have an impact on the new series. Also characters from that series are prominent in this new one and it’s assumed that the reader knows them as well of the tornado. As a new reader, I would have appreciated a prologue that at least explained the tornado and some of those characters. All that said, it’s an engaging story filled with well developed characters. It’s a story about second chances in life, in this case, Elaine, an unwed mother who is still paying for the mistakes of her youth, A youth that was not easy . She will do anything to protect her sweet boy. Elaine has worked hard and has found a home and a new beginning in this town. Travis is one of the town’s deputy and has a crush on her. He was a Navy SEAL, and still has nightmares of the last mission . The author creates a heartbreaking, but also heartwarming story with imperfect and very likable characters. But what I liked best, was how she reminds us that we need to do more for those brave men and women that are willing to serve our country and die for our freedom. Upon their return. we need to help them not only to integrate back to civil life, but also with their physical and emotional scars. Kudos to the author for that reminder. I was gifted a copy of this book. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
