The version of A Higher Purpose that I am reviewing is for the newly updated version. This story is a sweet romance between two people who both deserve a second chance at love. This story is not a second chance romance though but it is a romance that has a paranormal twist to it. Ella Southards had never considered that she had any type of supernatural tendencies but all that changed the day Adam Cowan walked into the coffee shop that she managed. She had never expected that a man who had starred in her dreams, some very naughty dreams at that, would materialize right in front of her very own eyes. Adam Cowan had not been interested in anything outside of getting a hot cup of coffee, that was until he caught a look at Ella. When he saw Ella, he was definitely intrigued but unfortunately for him there was a very obvious sign that she was off limits. That was disappointing and that emotion itself also surprised Adam because he had not been looking to meet anyone at all. He had a bad history with heartbreak and was not interested in ever having a repeat performance. Although, there was something about Ella that made Adam really want to try, with her. Too bad for him that Ella had closed off her heart to silly romantic notions. Neither Ella nor Adam were truly interested in love but destiny had other plans for them. Alas, it also seemed that they were destined to be star-crossed lovers because their hopes and dreams were pulling them both in different directions. Which was something I really enjoyed about this story, I did like the push and pull between Ella and Adam. They were two older adults who had very different lives and it was not going to be a simple matter of them “falling in love.” I appreciated that they were realistically portrayed. There was indeed realism but there was also a cute little supernatural twist that I found to be interesting. Overall, A Higher Purpose was a sweet romance that had grand gestures of affection as well as just the right amount of sexual tension to make any reader feel a bit swoony. This review is based on a complimentary book I received from Author, Lucy Varna. It is an honest and voluntary review. The complimentary receipt of it in no way affected my review or rating.
