About the Author

Spencer Walpole (1830–1907) was an English historian. Knighted in 1898, Walpole held various positions as a civil servant. He is the author of the monumental six-volume work A History of England from the Conclusion of the Great War in 1815 (1878-1886). He also wrote biographies of Spencer Perceval (1894) and Lord John Russell (1889) as well as Studies in Biography (1906).
