A Lady of Esteem (Hawthorne House): A Novella by Kristi Ann Hunter

Miss Amelia Stalwood may live in London at her absent guardian's townhouse, but she's never actually met any nobility, and instead of aristocrats, her closest friends are servants. Quite by happenstance, she's introduced to the Hawthorne family and their close family friend, Anthony, the reformed Marquis of Raebourne. They welcome her into their world, but just as she's beginning to gain some confidence and even suspect she may have caught Anthony's eye, she's blindsided by an unexpected twist in her situation accompanied by nasty rumors. Will she lose her reputation when the world that has only just accepted her turns its back on her, or will she rest in the support of the friends who've become like family and the man who's shared his faith and captured her heart?

A Lady of Esteem is an e-only novella that gives an exciting introduction to Kristi Ann Hunter's new Regency romance series about the aristocratic Hawthorne family! Includes an extended excerpt of Kristi's debut full-length novel, A Noble Masquerade.

This starts out a simple love story, bits of humor, a few offhand references to God before the Christian aspect comes noticeably into play. Not too heavy handed, added to the story rather than detracted. The very end was a bit heavy with it but not unexpected. Overall a good way to write a clean, Christian romance that is still a good story. First time I enjoyed a Christian romance all the way thru. Kudos on a job well done.

It was a nice story. I really enjoyed the characters. Especially amelia. she reminds me of myself and how Ibumbpe through things. The fact that she didn't know French or how to dance or the proper ways to address and converse with nobilty, I found odd...just what did her governess teach her?. I thought they were supposed to teach that. Anyway... great story. And I enjoyed how all the servants would work behind the scenes to subtly bring Anthony and Amelia together and punish--in a passive-aggressive way, those who said anything bad about her. Great bunch. Loved it!

Decent read, well written, good flow. Only complaint is I wanted more drama. More conflict.

A young girl finds herself an orphan and sent to a distant relative to live. The relative has a "low' title and does agree to sponsor her. However, it is so absentminded he leaves her on her own until she becomes 11 and decides she needs more help than he can give. She is sent off again to another distant relative to live with that family. She knows once she becomes of age she will most likely be on her own and the sponsorship will be withdrawn. A week before her 21st birthday someone comes to her house to inform her she will once again be sent to another household because her current sponsor has died. She cannot believe what is happening as the papers keep indicating she is 11 even though she is approaching her 21st birthday. Once she is taken to the new household her life changes. Changes dramactally.

I wished I would have read this prequel before reading the Hawthorne House series because it sets up the premise nicely! But you don't have to of course, I just think it enhances it more and gives you some background to the characters. So going backwards, this answers some questions I had about who Amelia & Anthony were and how their relationship started. I loved seeing these two fall in love! It also reminded me in a way of a rags to riches kind of story for Amelia. Having been elevated in class the day she became a Dukes ward....and this is where we first meet Griffin; Mr. swoon worthy himself! We are also introduced to the rest of the Hawthorne clan. I loved getting to know more about Amelia and Anthony and how they found their happily-ever-after. A fun prequel with plenty of depth & characterization!

Loved the complex and sassy characters who defy the expectations of society. Plot was well thought out. Th8s authors strengths is in her character development; their thoughts and interactions are realistic, complex, yet refreshing and entertaining.

A delightful historical romance novella! This wonderful story introduces us to a new writer and her first series of books. I love her style of writing and found that she has a wonderful knack for inserting very humorous situations throughout the story. The development of the main characters is fantastic. I fell in love with Amelia Stalwood from very early on. We are given a glimpse of what her childhood was like in the prologue. It made me feel like wrapping my arms around her and to help her to feel loved. I then found that she hadn’t let it make her mean in any way. She cares about others and that shines through with everyone she meets. Anthony Pendleton is carrying memories of what he used to be like and he expects everyone to still be judging him by his past mistakes. That includes people that didn’t even know him before he changed. I enjoyed seeing his journey as he dealt with this. I’m looking forward to reading the rest of this series. I think I have found another favorite author.

Read about the story of Amelia. She is a ward of the viscount who ignores her then sends her to London. Ten years later she is a young lady and thru a series of mishaps falls into the arms of the Marquis. Then starts a great story of how she becomes friends with the Hawthornes and becomes part of the ton in London. Or does she? Great read.

For those who want a fun, "clean" romance (aka no adult situations in the bedroom) then this is for you! I laughed at the humor and absolutely love the cute romance between the two main characters. And yes, I already bought her first full novel and plan to read the second one coming out this summer.

A Lady of Esteem is a touching story of Amelia who is unwanted by her parents, orphaned, and the ward of an absentminded viscount who sends her to live at his house in London. Her guardian forgets that she is growing up during the ten years she lives in London with his house staff. Although Amelia is an aristocrat, she grows up with servants as her only friends. Lord Anthony Raebourne, a new Christian, has never paid any attention to his servants and is amazed to find they can be friends and helpful in his pursuit of Amelia. This is my first book by Kristi Ann Hunter but I will be looking for more books by her! The story moved at a quick pace and kept me turning pages. I received the e-book of A Lady of Esteem from Bethany House.

This was my first read by Ms. Hunter and I loved it! A Lady of Esteem is about Miss Amelia Stalwood, a forgotten orphan, who walks the line between servant and gentry. A chance encounter introduces her to Anthony, the marquis of Raeborn, who is struggling to reenter polite society. I loved how Amelia and Anthony had to overcome their fears of society and find their way and identity based on God's truth. This novella sets up the rest of the Hawthorne House series and I eagerly look forward to more books from Ms. Hunter.

A Lady of Esteem by Kristi Ann Hunter Hawthorne House Series Prequel Amelia was raised by servants after going to live with distant relative. She was more familiar with how the gentry treated their servants than how to be the one in charge of the household and servants. Anthony Pendleton, Marquis of Raebourne is a reformed rake. After two years of being in the country, he returns to London. All his old vices...gaming, drinking and womanizing...are much harder to fight and Town tests his new faith. Especially when a beautiful woman falls into his arms. This is the prequel to A Noble Masquerade. Anthony's country estate is next to the Hawthorne's. I really enjoyed both of these books and look forward to more from this author.

Love, heartbreak and redemption can all be found in this charming novella. A wonderful story set in 1812, you will find yourself immersed in the regency era. Amelia Stalwood was sent to live in London by her guardian at a young age. Raised by her governess, she has little hope of entering society and her circle of friends consists primarily of servants. As events come into play, she is introduced to the Hawthorne family and their friend, Anthony, the marquis of Raeburn, who has recently done away with his scandalous lifestyle. As she is introduced into society by the Hawthornes her circumstances are dramatically changed. The rumour mill begins as the ton speculate her true identity. Will the society that she has finally obtained turn their back on her? Will the support of her new friends be enough? And will the man she loves give her up so that her reputation is not further tainted? A Lady of Esteem is a captivating story about God's redeeming love and mercy. Amelia is desperate to have the love of a family. She finds that family among people she never dreamed she would ever be able to associate with. Meanwhile, Anthony struggles to forgive himself for his past, even though he knows that God has made him a new man. The adventure is far too short, I did not want this story to end! My only consolation is that I have already started A Noble Masquerade (Which will be released September 2015). Kristi Ann Hunter shows real talent and I love her writing style. I am truly looking forward to her future works!

Take a look at A Lady of Esteem, the latest novella by Kristi Ann Hunter. This novella is an introduction to her new series, Hawthorne House. Amelia Stalwood has been living in London with her governess ever since her guardian sent them into town nine years ago. Her quiet life is about to become very lively when she is introduced to the Hawthorne family, as well as their dear friend, Anthony, the Marquis of Raeburn! Amelia has heard the negative tales concerning Anthony's reputation. She is not sure what to think of him or how to behave around him; however, you are not surprised when you notice that feelings are developing between them! Time with these new friends is a fun ride for Amelia as she goes about town with them. She is doing things she has never done before, like going to the opera and learning how to dance! Hang on tight to see where this tale eventually leads Amelia! http://penlessreview.blogspot.com/
