The author captures Florida back in the day when Disney was not even thought of or any of the other theme parks that popped up in central Florida. Living in Florida with all the many critters one can't begin to imagine what it was like to live on the land with out all our modern conveniences. The many hardships that families faced on a day to day basis. Yet the romantic simplicity of days gone by is also a part of this read. I didn't want the story to end and yet I like the way it ended. The author truly captures "Ol' Florida" in a unique and believable way.

Did not think a book could bring me to tears, but this one did the job. I have listened to my dad's old Florida stories for years and have enjoyed hearing of the Everglades hunting camp he visited as a child. This novel was like listening to those stories. Old Florida before so called "progress" bettered things. I will never know the land described so vividly in this novel, but I also know I will never again look at our native trees, plants, wildlife, weather and history the same after reading this beautiful story!

I question whether this one is a favorite as I have read many many books. I first read it in 9th grade and fell in love with it. You'll fall in love with the characters. When the book comes to an end you will almost wish it didn't. This book remains in my book collecton because it is one of the few that kept my attention from the first chapter. Read it! You won't regret it. My only complaint is the book cover. It is hideous!!! But as the old saying goes, " Can't judge a book by its cover." Especilly in this case.

Having lived nearly my whole life in Florida, I enjoyed reading about the history of the state from the Civil War on, which is rarely written about. It lagged a little in some spots, but I mainly take issue with the end. Solomon Macivey is an embittered man who places blame on others for what he's done.

This is truly one of the most beautiful books that I can remember reading. The love of family, land, home and country are so vividly displayed in the pages of "A Land Remembered". I laughed, cried and was truly sorry when the story ended.

i recommend this book to any who wish to grasp further knowledge of Florida's history. This book is very historically accurate, although the characters are of course fictional, the way of life is very true. I had my students read this story for a class assignment, I did not hear one student say they were uninterested. Everytime i give the assignment, I re-read the story and find new details that I hadnt noticed before. It never fails to keep me on my toes in anticipation.

I had to read this for my 11th grade summer reading class, but I enjoyed it so much I couldn't put it down. I highly reccomend this book to anyone. It was very insightful into the early life of Floridians and the changes it's endured over the years!

As a recent resident of Floria, I am interested in the local history and a description of the lives and environment of the people who develoed this part of the country. This book fills in many of the details of the special people who made Florida what it is.
