Warm, touching, heartfelt - honest, sincere - how fortunate those mothers who are alive and can read their letters. Such varied backgrounds; not all the writers are "famous." But all share a love of their mothers. Some recognize the humanness, the brokenness, the struggles their mother had, but all hold an appreciation of the love and sacrifice. It is a wonderful little book and I recommend it highly.

Me before reading this book: "Oh a book of letters I love letters. Easy read." Me 30 pages in: "Mommy!" This was not an easy read at all. I have to admit that even though a part of me figured it might be a quick and "easy read;" a bigger part of me knew completely that at least half of these letters would break me. Honestly; that might have been a part of the appeal. I love the idea of writing letters and just putting yourself out there. Even if you don't share them with the person they're meant for. (Even if you share them with everyone else except the person they're meant for, although that's probably just me.) It takes a lot to write even a short letter, to just say everything you want to say and get all that you're feeling on paper. And you can never say every thing that you'd like. That being said; I have to admire all these letter writers for trying and succeeding in putting so much of themselves into their letters and sharing their love for their mothers. This book is inspiring in so many ways, that I wouldn't even know where to begin. It gives so much to the readers... much like the mothers of all these writers.

I bought two copies recently for both my mother and my mother in law. Gave them both the books as early Mother's Day presents and they each called to say how much they loved them. It was truly one of their favorite gifts in recent years. The stories range from funny to heart-warming so there's a very nice variety. I started reading a few and had a hard time putting it down myself. And now some of my friends stole my gift idea and are getting copies for their moms for Mother's Day! I'm gonna go back and buy the others in the series as well. You definitely won't be disappointed if you choose to purchase this book. But one question remains...... when is Lisa gonna do A Letter to my Father???? The moms can't get all the love and attention! :)

Heartwarming, insightful and full of love. This book celebrates and honors mothers like no other. Such a good read. I was impressed at how many well-known individuals shared their personal letters. It was touching. I'm giving it to my mother for Mother's Day along with my letter to her.
