A Light in the Dark by Becky Doughty

On stage, Tish Ransome sings about heartache and passion, betrayal, and about love gone wrong… but she knows very little about any of it in real life. The rockstar princess who swears like a pirate—literally—is loved and adored by family, friends, and fans alike, and her world is filled with good things, her future bright.

Behind the scenes, however, trouble is brewing. When Tom, her best friend and co-founder of the Marauders, tells her he's leaving the band after graduation, Tish must find a new wingman to step into Tom's hard-to-fill shoes. The moment she hears Sebastian Jeffries play, she knows he's the one.

Yet with Sebastian comes a taste of the things Tish only writes about, and she can't resist the lure of the tortured artist. Sebastian, likewise, is drawn to Tish's brilliance, but like a moth that hovers too close to the flames, is he killing himself just to be near her? Can Tish save Sebastian before it's too late, or will he pull her down into the darkness with him?

They have three children, two of whom are grown and starting families of their own, and they all live within a few miles of each other in Southern California. Tish is a college student and the lead singer and guitarist in a band called Marauders. The co founder of the band is Tish’s good friend Tom and he has decided to take a job out of state and they need to find his replacement. Sebastien shows up at the audition for Tom’s replacement and is an excellent musician But he has been unpleasant to Tish when they had a class together, But Tish soon realized how well she had been protected and loved all her life and had been protected from the ugliness and reality of life especially bad aspects for some. There is an attraction between Tish and Sebastien but it scares Sebastien. Maybe Sebastien has a reason for his disposition maybe he is being hurt in an abusive way. This is an awesome story. I times I chuckled and at times I cried, very few stories actually put tears on my face what awesome writing and made you feel a part of the story. It did drag a little at times but there was so many more important things in this story it simply didn’t matter you got through it to get to the next part. I just can’t say enough about this story, I highly recommend. I received an Arc of this story for an honest review.

O...kay. I'd like to stick to my usual nice and organizational system to review A Light in the Dark by author Becky Doughty, but I'm not going to be able to do that. The novel had me sobbing so hard toward the end of it that a bunch of my previous notes on the book don't seem like they matter much now. Tish and Sebastian's story drew me in and entertained me at various levels, particularly as an artist and as a romantic. But then, beyond the characters' initial family and friendship threads, beyond the romance and humor, and even beyond the art, the journey got real to me on a whole different plane, venturing to a place both excruciating and exquisite to convey the significance of darkness and light. I'd recommend this novel to fans of new adult fiction who wouldn't mind getting more than just an angsty romance out of a romantic read. It's passionate and compassionate, and though its ultimate richness varies in flavor from the first novel in the Fallout series, it's a rich story all the same. __________________ I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
