In 1950 Frederick Buechner published his first novel, A Long Day's Dying, to great acclaim. In the intervening 53 years he has written more than a dozen novels that have encompassed themes such as politics, myth, fairy tale, theology, and Shakespeare. He has been runner-up for the Pulitzer Prize, nominated for the National Book Award, and has been honored by and is a member of the American Academy of Arts & Letters.
