Overview

A Magnificent Crime by Kim Foster

Cat Montgomery is a natural-born thief with a special talent for stealth--or at least she thought so. Years ago, she stole from the diamond-hording businessman Albert Faulkner III, but he somehow figured out she was responsible. Now he wants revenge, and dares her to swipe the elusive Hope Diamond. If she fails the mission, he'll wreak bloody havoc on her loved ones. But the stakes are raised even higher when Cat discovers that stealing the Hope is not only an impossible task, it's a cursed one. . .

Meanwhile, Cat's boyfriend, FBI agent Jack Barlow, is tracking a fierce criminal known as the Gargoyle, running into Interpol and resistance among his agency. As he follows the trail to Paris, where Cat is, their missions entwine in ways neither of them would have suspected. . .

Cat finds herself in a whole mess of trouble in A Magnificent Crime! Not only does a previous job come back to haunt her, but so does a man from the past. Cat finds herself torn between Hero Jack and Bad Boy Ethan. To make matter worse, she needs them both to do the Job of All Jobs! Her heart and her hands are on the line here. When it's all said and done, who will she choose? I stumbled upon the first book in this series last week. I LOVED it! Fortunately, I didn't have to wait very long to read the sequel. I found this one as much of a page-turner as the first one. It was dramatic and suspenseful. But, if I'm being honest, I was very disappointed in Cat when she made her decision on her personal Jack-Ethan problem. That was not how I wanted it to go. I guess I'll have to wait for the next book to see how it all plays out! (TEAM JACK!)

I think Kim Foster must be a relatively inexperienced author. She's almost very good, but she ruins things by doing silly things. For example, why must her character talk to herself and constantly say, "Right?" It is annoying. The plot of this novel is somewhat confusing because there are three or four running simultaneously. That's not necessarily bad, but it does get confusing at times. I also find Jack's behavior unbelievable at times.
