In The Unmapped Road to Happily Ever After, I chronicled the chapters of my life, from growing up on a rural Pennsylvania farm without indoor plumbing, through marrying and raising four kids, to retiring in beautiful Northern California. Just as I was finishing that book, Art, my husband of 58 years, died, creating a natural closure for that book. At first I planned to stay in the house where we had lived, with all the land and the growing things that Art had tended. That was until a very unplanned encounter with the neighbors' pit bull. After five days in the hospital, then kids flying in from around the country to help, I knew it was time to move closer to one of them. I ended up in an independent living condo near my daughter Melinda in Maryland. As I started getting to know people there and settled in to all of the activities available, I knew I wasn't done writing. A whole new life had begun.
