Another new author for me and she did a wonderful job of transporting me back in time to the 1800s with her writing skills. I do love a well written historical romance, and this is very well written. I found the plot to be interesting from the beginning of the book to the very end of it. The author has added a murder mystery in with the romance. The two main characters have known each other for years and the man (Benjamin) becomes Samantha’s legal guardian, they have really great chemistry between them even though they are quite different, and Samantha doesn’t really comply with how a lady in the 1800s should dress and speak. I wasn’t too happy to find that there is a cliffhanger, I do wish authors would make it very clear in the blurb for a book that it has a cliffhanger ending as it really isn’t the type of surprise most readers enjoy, I have to admit I personally hate it! I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This is a gripping, intriguing, entertaining and romantic story. Samantha is a very unique young lady, she curses, prefers to be barefoot, has no problem telling people off and rebels against all of society's rules. She's in London to play chaperone to her brother's widow, Wilhelmina, who has decided to look for another husband. Wilhelmina is a b**ch who likes to control Sam. Benjamin is Sam's brother Edward's best friend, and the one he entrusted to be guardian to her. They hadn't seen each other in 10 years, and neither was prepared for the attraction between them. Benjamin just wanted to marry her off and be done with his obligation, until her life is in danger and he thinks about never seeing her again. Not is all as it seems though, there are surprising twists and shocking revelations. The suspense builds towards an exciting climax, until the sudden epilogue ends the book. It's a great book up to that point, with amusing and likable characters, but the ending leaves you wanting. I received a complimentary copy of this book from Booksprout. This is my honest and voluntary opinion of it.

This is the 2nd book I've read written Alyssa Drake; she has done a great job at writing a good book; I will definitely be reading more of her books. The story line caught my attention at the very beginning and kept me interested throughout the entire book. I loved the chemistry between the characters. Her father was murdered and the rest of the family isn't safe now eleven years later Samantha Hastings is been introduced to society her sister in law Wilhelmina is determined that she will be married by the end of the season but Samantha says she will never marry. That is until she reconnects with Lord Benjamin Westwood he was her brothers best friend but now he is a cad and a rake and worse of all he is her guardian. The attraction between them is instant but will they hide it or will they act on it You will need to read to see. This is the debut book for this very talented author and if this is any indication she is going to be a force to be reckoned with

Oh wow, this was such a great book to read! I didn't realize it ended in a cliffhanger, though, so now I'm looking forward to the next book coming out. Miss Samantha Hastings is quite the character and I just loved her!! She refuses to conform to society's strict rules and loves nothing better than to walk around barefoot, swear to her heart's content and live in the country where there are no ball or parties to attend. She ends up going to stay with her sister in law after her brother's death and is told she needs to have her first season and attend all these balls and parties that she so detests. Lord Benjamin Westwood finds himself Samantha's guardian after promising her brother that he would make sure she married well. He figures it will be a quick job but once he sets eyes on her, he wants her all to himself! He's an experienced rake and she's an innocent but sparks fly when they are together and I just loved their interactions with each other, some humorous, others steamy as heck!!! When Samantha's brother suddenly reappears, not dead after all, it's discovered that there's a murderer out to get him and his family! This author weaves her story quite well and I had a hard time putting the book down. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Independent reviewer for Archaeolibrarian, I was gifted my copy of this book. When Samantha's brother, Edward, is killed while travelling to France, she is called away from her country home, back to the city and world she worked hard to stay away from. Benjamin was Edward's best friend, and was supposed to find Samantha a husband. He was not expecting his reaction to her, the little girl is all grown up and every possible husband is rejected by Benjamin. When Edward's disappearance turns out to be foul play, Samantha's life is in danger, and Benjamin is running out of time. First up: CLIFF HANGER!!! We all have that love hate thing for cliff hangers and I did not see this one creeping up on me!! I was loving this book, really enjoying it and then THAT happened and I was not a happie chappie, not at all. Second: First time author. And you really can't tell!! I only know this, because I went to look for future books in this series, and can't find any of them, nor any other books by this author! Excellent work, Ms Drake, very well done. I did get who might be up to no good, very early on and I loved watching things become clearer. Love having at all laid out as much as I love being kept on my toes. But while we know WHOdunnit, we don't know the WHY they did it, not yet. The book open with a murder ten years previous (we get that from the murderer's point of view, so loved that!) which turns out to be Edward and Samantha's father. Then there is Edward's disappearance, and some missing jewellery. It all comes together, or at least its BEGINNING to come together, then I ran out of bloody book!! So, book two, Ms Drake?? When should we expect that, because I want to know what happens to Samantha and Benjamin but also what Benjamin's mother is up to, taking in that young lady, and whether what I see happening between that young lady and Thomas, Benjamin's twin, actually happens. 4.5 stars, but rounded down to 4 cos Goodreads/Amazon/the blog don't do half stars **same worded review will appear elsewhere**

I loved this book. It was a wonderful debut novel. Fun, good pace and a great mix of romance and mystery. The dialogue between characters had me laughing out loud. I am looking forward tot he next book in the series.

There is no ending. It is a series and you have to buy the next two books. The story line is confusing. When one character is found to be alive his wife barely acknowledges he was gone for two years. Lots of jumping around. There is too much dialogue. I liked the characters and the storyline but the writing and gimmick of continuing the story over three books is aggravating.

Samantha is not eager to put herself through the society balls and such that her sister in law wants to drag her to. Her sister in law has finally come out of her mourning period and is looking for a husband, and she thinks Samantha should be looking for one, too. Except, Samantha is an opinionated, independent woman who doesn't need or want a husband. But then she meets again her brother's best friend, who apparently promised her brother that he'd find her a husband, and Benjamin means to keep that promise. But who says that husband cannot be himself? Well, Samantha's brother for one. He knew what a rake Benjamin is, and he's the last person he'd want for his beloved baby sister. But that doesn't mean the two cannot indulge in their attraction to each other, right? I don't normally read historicals, but I found myself loving A Perfect Plan. It was witty, sexy, suspenseful and Samantha and Benjamin are a great couple! This story read fairly modern, but kept within the Victorian era with its ideals and language, while bringing a modern feel with Samantha's independent character. The only reason for a 4 rather than a 5 star review is because there's a cliffhanger that wasn't noted in the blurb. I hate cliffhangers, and normally wait for all the installments of a series to publish before I read, specifically so I won't have to wait forever to find out what happens next.

A Perfect Plan is a historical romance – suspense, which b begins in a gruesome way in the year 1842. The prologue boasts of one murder, a writing desk and bribery. Chapter One picks up the story in the year 1853, as I hoped this would not become too confusing to follow but thankfully the story continued in 1853. The language of A Perfect Plan is in keeping with its era and the first chapter had a lighter tone, with a scene of three siblings getting one another into trouble. I like the character Sam (Samantha), her story, background and connection with various other characters. This was the century of ballroom courtship and there are many characters dancing on the floor. Until we were introduced to them all I read A Perfect Plan tentatively, hoping they would not be featured heavily in forthcoming chapters. I like the setting of the book and its look into society in that time period, with widowers, young men, ghosts and mothers playing matchmaker at every opportunity. There are characters with personalities that you can recognize in people today and learn that times then and now are not much different. While the romance was limp, I did like the mystery of what happened to Rebecca and Matthew, the parents of Sam and Edward. A good read. (I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review)
