The premise is delicious. Eight people are locked in a deserted, century-old library. One of them harbors the transplanted mind—thanks to an invention of long-dead scientist, Nikola Tesla—of depraved serial killer, Henry Holmes. Martin Ortiz Hill’s A Predatory Mind is a fast-paced, heart-pounding tale. He uses an interesting technique that adds to the tension: numerous, short-length chapters. Hill masterfully amps up the stakes, doles out mysteries and reveals secrets throughout the novel. As with every great storyteller, just when you think you know the answers, Hill turns them all on their heads. Never boring, A Predatory Mind was an intense page-turner that had me hooked from beginning to end.
