Excellent!  Perfection. This love story is everything you could want in a Traditional Regency romance between a merchant gentleman and an Earl's managing spinster daughter set in the country.  The heart of this book can be found in its original title "A Father's Love."  The heroine first falls for the hero because of his care and love  for his autistic son in a time where little was known about that condition. Our heroine takes the daughter as well as the son under her wing and the story moves forward at a lovely pace.  With deft strokes of little details and crisp dialogue, Simpsons lures us into this wonderful romance and family.  I feel very lucky that her books are being republished in ebook form.  I was given this book for my honest review. So, there you have it.

This was a clever novella, set in the regency period and style with all romance staying in the sweet zone.  Donna Lea Simpson has created characters that wholly fit their world, and given us a mission for the very bored Lady Theresa.  When she meets Mr. Martindale and his two children, her path is set: get them involved and accepted into the area’s best homes, and help him to make a life for his children.  Martindale is amazingly dedicated to his children, even to the point of spoiling them.  His daughter is wholly spoilt with massive temper tantrums and behavior wholly unsuitable.  Alternately his son doesn’t interact, at all, with anyone.  Theresa is rather ‘heavy handed’ in her proclamations, but her intentions are good even if her plans go astray.  With several attempts to prove her worth, slowly the Martindale’s are finding a place in society, and she a place in this very unusual family.  Smoothly written with a quick pace and the gentle attraction that grows between Theresa and James is sweetly believable. This is a story that will help you to pass a pleasant afternoon as it entertains you. I received an eBook copy from the publisher via NetGalley for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.

I loved this novella. It is a perfect read for when I need to come back after reading very serious books. Lady Theresa was a wonderful character. She stepped up when the town gossiped about the new family in town. James stole my heart when he didn't let others be ungracious to his son. It makes you want to know what happens when Jacob grows up. Get this book for those times you need to get Happy!
