About the Author
Leigh Douglass Brackett (1915-1978) was an American western and science fiction author. Married to fellow science fiction writer Edmond Hamilton, Brackett was also a screenwriter, known for her work on famous films such as The Big Sleep (1945), Rio Bravo (1959), The Long Goodbye (1973) and The Empire Strikes Back (1980).
Edgar Rice Burroughs (1875-1950) was a prolific American author best known for his characters Tarzan and John Carter of Mars, although he wrote in a number of genres including westerns and non-fiction. He completed more than seventy books during his career.
John Wood Campbell (1910-1971) was an early writer of science fiction pulp who later turned to editing, largely abandoning fiction by the time he was 28. As editor of Astounding Science Fiction from late 1937 until his death in 1971, Campbell is generally credited with shaping the so-called Golden Age of Science Fiction. Isaac Asimov called Campbell "the most powerful force in science fiction ever, and for the first ten years of his editorship he dominated the field completely."
Raymond King Cummings (1887-1957) is considered one of the "fathers" of modern science fiction; he published some 750 novels and short stories before and after World War II, many in the popular pulp science fiction magazines of the day. Cummings worked with Thomas Edison as a personal assistant and technical writer from 1914 to 1919.
Randall Garrett (1927-1987) was an American fantasy and science fiction writer; he published hundreds of short stories in science fiction magazines of the 1950s and 1960s and published dozens of books under a variety of pseudonyms. He is probably best known for his alternative history LORD DARCY series.
