Just the fact that I am sitting here typing this is nothing but a testament to God and what He can do. Never in a million years would I have envisioned where my life currently is and the path that it took for me to get here. I mean seriously a Pastor?! Me?! Never ever could have seen or imagined it. Besides the fact that I grew up in a home where we did not go to church or have any type of spiritual conversations or traditions, I also was certainly far from God and was on a path completely opposite of His ways. As a kid, I grew up for the most part in southern California in the late '80s to mid-'90s during the height of the gang wars. I was involved in all kinds of foolishness from grand theft, grand theft auto, shoplifting, underage drinking, etc. Though I never actually joined a gang, I was around them a lot and knew several people that were. I was pretty much in the streets daily and you name it, I saw it, dealt with it or did it. By the grace of God, I did not get too far gone and was still able to graduate high school and stay out of jail and the morgue. My father, after retiring from the Marine Corps, relocated us back to the Boston area. After a while of working jobs here and there, I finally (with some help from my Dad who had enough of me living in his house) decided to join the military. More school just wasn't in the cards for me. I mean, I could have gone if I chose to, but it just was not for me. So, off to MCRD San Diego I went. After a few years in the Marines, I got out and decided to go to the Army. For the next 17 years, minus a few months when I had gotten out and then turned right around and went back in, I served this awesome country of ours in the U.S. Army. Along the way in my military career, I got married, divorced, then married again and then divorced again and had 4 children. All through this, I knew there was a God, but I was very far from Him. But, God has a way of reaching out and grabbing you. He'll make situations arise in your life when you have no choice but to either turn to Him or walk into destruction. I had no idea at the time, but He had been calling me and keeping me from certain destruction for a long time. This book mainly focuses on and covers a two and a half year period where the transformation was in full swing and took place. It shows how God never gives up on us and during times when we think He has left us, He is right there and is actually preparing us for something greater.

This book is the testimony of a short period of time when SFC (RET) Gibson was experiencing some very difficult times as a service member, as a husband, and as a father to his children. It is an amazing testament of how God can get you through unimaginable difficulties and through your lowest moments in life with just a little bit of faith. Chapter 10 literally had tears running down my face. Once I started I could not stop reading. I read the whole book in a matter of 2 hours and even though it was late at night, it grabbed my attention the entire time. As a former service member myself, there were things I felt I could certainly relate to. I chuckled at a few things he mentioned but by the end of the book I was smiling, not just because of the happy ending but also because I was simply proud of how he turned out. God can do amazing things in our lives if we just allow Him to do so. There have been times when I lose sight of that and this book was the perfect reminder that I needed. What I love is that he kept it real, there was no grand voice from the sky, no huge changes like hitting the lotto, no, it was the little changes that made the biggest miracles happen in this period of his life. Even if you are not a "church-goer" or a believer per say, read the book, I promise you wont regret it. SFC G, thank you for your service! You are an amazing testament to how God can work in our lives and completely change our life little by little without us even realizing it. God bless you brother.
