Art major, Roxy Thompson, is a ball of fun-but she's also careful to keep her walls intact when it comes to men. She likes relationships just like her coffee: light and sweet. After having her heart shattered once before, she's determined not to ever feel that broken again.
College senior, Lake Foster, is just tempting enough to make Roxy rethink her rules of engagement. Suddenly, high-dollar shots and a no-strings night out aren't enough anymore. But Lake isn't looking for long-term. His future is set, and in four months, he intends to graduate and leave Georgia-and everything in it-behind. Luckily, short-term fun is Roxy's specialty, and Lake can't resist what he promises will be a fleeting taste.

Within reading the first few pages of this novel, I knew this was going to be my type of book. The plot is entertaining, light, and well written--and this is one sexy story. The main characters, Lake and Roxy, are so well though out and they balance each other perfectly. Backstory was delicately woven into the plot in teasing snippets, and it really worked as a way for us to understand why these characters are like they are. And the characters each had their own flaws--they weren't perfect and this immediately made them realistic on so many different levels. The romance was believable--and I think that's one of the most important things for any NA novel. If you're looking for a NA novel with well thought out characters, a tense and sexy plot full of drama and intrigue, and a writing style that just flows, then give this book a go.
This review may contain spoilers. Read at your own risk! I am usually not one for Romance novels when it comes to my taste in books. I tend to get bored right away, or I find that I just don’t care about the characters or the plot, BUT “A Shot of Reckless” is a breath of fresh air into the Romance genre. I was easily hooked within the first chapter. I found myself wrapped up and enjoying every page, lavishing every word. I was left wanting more after each chapter! The story follows two very likable characters, Roxy and Lake, as they embark on what is sure to become a tumultuous relationship. Both agree to go into this without strings attached, but find that this will be way more difficult than either of them realized. This novel is a romance novel, there are some pretty steamy sex scenes, but I found these scenes to be steamy, not outright pornographic. While Roxy and Lake set off to have a quick, hot affair, the sex scenes do not overwhelm the story. Roxy had my heart from the first chapter. She is bold, take charge, and will not take no for an answer when it comes to getting what she wants. She makes no apologies for how she lives her life. Maddie Paige took a seemingly broken character and turned her into someone I would want as my friend. She doesn’t open up for many, but when she does, she will protect those she loves with everything she has. Lake, the leading man, is everything I wanted out of a love interest in this novel. He is more than just a pretty face. His back story gives his character more depth and makes him even more lovable than he already is. I adored Lake. I am not usually someone who will cling to just one guy in a novel, but Lake was different for me. He is understanding, compassionate, and devoted to Roxy and his friends. The only fault I could find with this novel is that it left me wanting more! I wish I could continue to follow up with Roxy and Lake’s future, Taylor’s new found independence, Dylan’s continued recovery, and Abigail’s seemingly odd path towards medical school. There were very few things I did not like about this book! It was a quick read that pulled me into a world I will definitely be revisiting again and again. The writing style was fun and breezy. I never once felt bored while reading. I really enjoyed the alternating viewpoints of the narrators. This allowed me to get to know each character on a deeper level. I have seen some authors stumble with this concept, but Maddie Paige exceeded my expectations with their ability to not fumble the story lines. This novel is full of moments that made me aww, made me laugh, and made me angry (at the characters, not over the material). I definitely recommend for anyone who wants to have a good time while reading!
