Overview

Dillon hadn't been called by anyone. He'd called himself and he wasn't ashamed of it. But no good can come from . . .

A SINFUL CALLING

Two years ago, to everyone's surprise, Dillon Whitfield Black, the secret son of Reverend Curtis Black, boldly moved back home, married a woman named Raven, decided he was going to become a minister, and then founded a church right in the center of his living room. Today he's pastor of a 1,000-plus-member congregation, and new members are joining weekly. Sadly, behind closed doors, Dillon is far from being a saint. Dillon has become more like the man his father was thirty years ago-consumed with money, power, and lots of women. His family may have let bygones be bygones, but they continue to keep their distance.

Not Alicia, though. This daughter of Curtis Black joins Dillon's congregation, leaving her father's church behind. The family has forgiven Alicia for marrying Levi Cunningham, the former drug dealer she had an affair with, but once Alicia realizes they will never fully accept Levi, she decides to see her family less and less. She and Levi are truly happy, however, guilt from her betrayal of Phillip and its aftermath casts a shadow over their wedded bliss.

But when Raven decides she wants a higher position in the church and Alicia hides a devastating secret, the entire family is affected in ways they don't see coming. In the end, no one will be able to trust anyone . . . and for very good reason.

Not exactly what I waited this long for. Being a mental health clinician, I found it to be boring and not as exciting as the other books in this series. I found myself skipping sections and unfilled at the end of the book. I was like, oookaaaaay, now what? Nevertheless, I still applaud for the Curtis Black series as a whole. Thanks

I am a huge fan of the Rev Curtis Black series but this one was not a page turner like the others. To be completely honest it was rather boring for more than half the book. I struggled to finish and skimmed more than I read. I rely on customer reviews when selecting a book so I just wanted to give a heads up if you are a fan. If you are just looking for a read you may enjoy. I was however am very disappointed

Sometimes the hardest thing to ask for is forgiveness. When you know in your heart of hearts that you are doing the right thing but it all turns out wrong you often wonder if it was the right thing to do or if it was even worth it. What should you do when the struggle between good and evil is weighing you down and you don't know which way to go? Should you continue on with the plan or should you stop and start over with a new plan? Is it even worth the trouble? Dillion Whitfield Black is back with a vengeance. He is back in Mitchell with a fresh start. After the scandal that happened between him and his father, the Rev. Curtis Black, Dillion is more than eager to prove that he is worthy of the name Black. Dillion has his own church that is growing by leaps and bounds. Even though him and his father aren't on speaking terms, he is realizing that he is truly more like his father than he cares to admit. Question is, does he still want to be like his father? Alicia Black is struggling. She is in a good place, she has married the man that she loves Levi Cunningham and she is happy, or so she thought. It is not that she misses Phillip but she does have moments of guilt about how her and Levi came together. Will she get past this guilt or will it run her crazy? A Sinful Calling is book 13 in the Rev. Curtis Black series and it is just as powerful as book number 1. The characters and the situations are powerful and they keep you on the edge of your seat. You have family situations, church situations and they are all familiar like it is happening to you. This book is written by a friend about a friend, that is how you feel while you are reading it. That is what keeps you coming back for more! Roby has definitely earned the title of New York Times Best Selling Author!

Best-selling author Kimberla Lawson Roby has made a name for herself and her memorable characters who from book to book always find a way to raise the stakes on family drama. Pray to God you'll never go toe to toe in reality with a family like the Blacks. Whether you're new to this series of books or you're all caught up on the familial drama, you will be surprised at how exponentially a son can multiply the sins of a father. The ne'er-do right reverend Curtis Black is eclipsed by the antics of upstart mega-church Pastor Dillon Whitfield Black whose haunting past fuels his drive for dominance. Not to be upstaged, dutiful helpmeet and reformed career criminal First Lady Raven Jones Whitfield Black assists with a few plot twists of her own. This continuation of the Reverend Curtis Black series stands alone in its delivery yet satisfies the sequel chaser. There's the promise of psychotic breaks, desperate addictions, steamy clandestine affairs, and in the end... a display of fireworks that may send one or all of these characters' lives up in smoke. While there are ministry moments and a lingering lesson in this novel that would surely preach, sinners and saints beware... You are so not ready for the pearl-clutching ride Kimberla Lawson Roby takes you on when an entire family seems to have heeded A Sinful Calling.

Just when you think there can't be any more stories about this family, Ms. Roby comes through with something fresh for the fans of this series to read about. In this episode of the Black family, Dillion Whitfield Black the secret son of Reverend Curtis Black is married to Raven and the pastor of a 1,000 member congregation that he wants to grow into a megachurch. He also is struggling with daddy issues and more that could destroy everything he has worked so hard for. Alicia, the daughter of Rev. Curtis Black, has left her father's congregation to join her brother Dillion's ministry, and he appoints her to be the chief operating officer. Also her husband Levi also a member has shown his loyalty to Dillion and by doing so, he is the chairperson of the church elder board. But Alicia is struggling with an issue from her past. Can she overcome it before it destroys her marriage to Levi? When Raven, the first lady of the New Faith Christian Center, reveals she wants to play a larger role in the ministry, Dillion is not interested in sharing and has to figure out a way to stop her. His decision doesn't sit well with Raven, and she is not happy. When you read a work by Kimberla Lawson Roby, you know you are going to get a quality written story with a message. This book tackles mental health when Alicia has issues dealing with the death of someone from a previous relationship. On a personal note, this part of the story struck home for me having been in a very painful relationship that ended badly, and I should have sought help. I could relate to this part of the story. This is a story for fans of the series, and I think you will like this installment because I did. If you are new to the series, make sure you read all the rest because the Blacks are a family that has real life stories to tell, and we are happy that Ms. Roby brings those stories to life. Read this book !!! (Linda)
