A Smoky Mountain Christmas by Carol DeVaney

Think Sandra Bullock meets country hunk. Wacky fresh and funny characters stranded in a Smoky Mountain snowstorm three days before Christmas.

After the shock of discovering her fiancee's indiscretions, Tina Cole tosses aside the bitterness and decides to get away for some R&R. But, the decision places her in hot water, and she thought she was through with men. Alone and discouraged, she lands on writer Hank Gordon's doorstep in the middle of the mountains. Hank rescues her and takes her in. Tina discovers everything she thought she wanted out of life means nothing without love.
Recently divorced Hank Gordon bottles up all his feelings and has sworn off women. He's isolated with a sassy Southern woman with an attitude who frustrates him more than any woman he's ever met, and if he thinks his life couldn't get any worse, he's wrong. Hank's novel deadline is twenty-four hours away and he's cut off from the world with no phone or email service, and a beautiful, exasperating woman to distract him.
A humorous romantic adventure, where the Christmas spirit, a little boy and two unlikely characters get an unexpected second chance at love, will warm your heart.

This Christmas book is the first in a Contemporary Romantic Comedy series set in The Great Smoky Mountains. A great read for any season.

Hank's baby blues smoldered, while six feet of masculinity ambled toward her, bringing him within inches of her comfort zone. The fireplace crackled, and its glowing warmth filled the short distance between them. Hank's nearness proved the burning logs weren't the only things that heated up the room.
With Hank that close, the faint aroma of fresh air radiated as Tina inhaled. Not even a hint of cologne for this man. He didn't need it.
His gaze locked on hers as he began to remove the wood...slow and easy from her arms. One at a time, he lowered the logs to the floor. His magnetic gaze never wavered. The attention hypnotized her. Her breath took a break and her pulse raced faster than a dog chasing a rabbit.
Isn't this something? Even at her age, the crazy experience was strong and unexpected--something to tuck away for future reference. Tina wrapped her mind around the moment, and held it close.
Her breath caught in her throat. She was in trouble. Man trouble.

About the Author

Carol falls in love with every character she writes in her books. She loves basing them on the good and the bad personalities that make up life. That’s what makes them real. Carol feels as though she’s in a movie when visualizing characters and she jumps right onto the page with them. Often the theme of her books is forgiveness. Whether planned or not, forgiveness sneaks its way into her stories. That’s okay, because Carol believes forgiving others is essential.

She favors a great story, with slices of twists that cause her to reflect on the problems life throws at us and how we react. Carol believes in happy endings. Humor is a big part of her stories and daily routine, and yes, she laughs a lot! Travel is one of her favorite things to do. She dabbles in art, always has popcorn, and hot chocolate on hand.

Carol is a small-town girl at heart and her stories are peppered with a dose of humor, based on Southern roots. She currently resides in Georgia with her husband and family.

A lost mouthy ding-bat Atlanta woman meets recluse handsome writer when her BMW is stuck near his cabin during a Smokey Mountains snow storm. Lots of mouthy rude dialog and some kissing and hugging, and a hazardous escape for a roundabout story. This story can also be found in the .99 boxed set Christmas on Main Street.

This was a cute read but the verbal rapport between characters was unnatural and sometimes didn't make sense. The repitition of character description was a little aggravating and the ending seemed rushed. But an okay read to pass the time.

I love books with happy endings, and Ms. DeVaney delivers a wonderfully satisfying read just in time for the holidays. When I read I always try to guess the plot twists and turns and I have to admit, I was surprised several times in this charming story. Quirky characters, romance and danger, this book has it all. I won't give away the ending, but if the reader isn't moved, I'd say they have a cold heart. A thoroughly enjoyable, quick read. Highly recommend it.

I really enjoyed this sweet and funny novel. A Christmas novel with heart and lots of story. Hank and Tina are an odd couple thrust together by a winter storm. Although these two nettle each other, there is a strong attraction just below the surface and soon it bubbles to the top. I can't count the number of times I laughed out loud. But when these two face danger, they form a united front and grow even closer. Can't wait to read another by this author.

I laughed so many times reading this. The heroine can't do anything right, but she's stubborn and determined. And the hero just sits back and watches her fail over and over again, yet he puts up with her and finds her efforts to be endearing. Carol DeVaney has a unique style and I like it. I think it's meant for adults but even a teen could read this book. This story lingers long after the story ends. I'll be watching for more from this author.

TERRIBLE! The plot was very weak and boring. The main characters spend the entire book being sarcastic with one another and on the very last page profess sudden true love. Don't waste your time. Last time i read this author.
