It is 1813, and Sibyl Ferris is young, book-mad, and disgruntled. Unwillingly accompanying her sister, Jane, to the city of Bath to stay with an aunt and uncle of unknown amiability, Sibyl has but one consolation: the prospect of visiting all of the booksellers and circulating libraries for which the place is justly famous. When various events and persons conspire to snatch from her this fondest of dreams, things look bleak, indeed. Who would have thought that a "chance" meeting with an earl would, in the end, prove far more entertaining than even a subscription to Meyler & Son's?
This is the third full-length book in The Merriweather Chronicles. Characters from previous works appear only sporadically, and may or may not be immediately recognizable.
