The flames of desire fuel a torrid reunion as bestselling author Bronwen Evans returns with another captivating novel of the Disgraced Lords. See why Jen McLaughlin raves, “Bronwen’s historical romances always make the top of my reading list!”
Lady Evangeline Stuart chose to wed a tyrant with a title, or so society believes. That was five years ago—five long years that she could have spent with her first and only love: Lord Hadley Fullerton, the second son of the Duke of Claymore. Now Evangeline is a widow, and her soul cries out for Hadley. But when they see each other at last, everything has changed. The passion in his eyes has been corrupted by betrayal. Somehow Evangeline must regain Hadley’s trust—without revealing the secret that would spoil the seduction.
Hadley is determined not to be distracted by Evangeline. He and the other Libertine Scholars are in pursuit of an enemy who has been striking at them from the shadows, and Evangeline’s mere presence could be dangerous. But with one smile, one touch, one taste of Evangeline’s lips, Hadley’s resolve is overpowered by far more pleasant memories. As the two enter into a discreet affair, Hadley vows to give her his body, never his heart. That, she will have to earn.

Chapter 1

London, England, 1816

The door slammed shut behind him, the sound echoing in the quiet street. Standing on the top step, Hadley loosened his cravat to make it easier to swallow over the lump in his throat. He gazed along the row of fashionable but smallish townhouses. They all looked the same, but he wondered if the people who lived inside were as empty of life as the house behind him.

A sighed escaped as he looked down his body. All dressed up and nowhere to go. No one was waiting for him. Missing him. Wanting him . . .

Philomena had wanted him.

The first woman he’d let close since Evangeline had decided that a title and money were more important than love.

It was never easy sounding the death knell on an arrangement with another mistress. He liked Philomena. She was easy. Easy to talk to, very easy to look at, and very easy to desire. Not a friend per se, but neither was she simply a mistress. Was there an in-between?

He kicked at a loose cobblestone.

As Hadley sauntered down the steps to the street, he tried to summon hurt or disappointment, but he’d only be fooling himself. All he felt was hollowness.

He had hoped Philomena might be a tad upset that their arrangement had to end, but she knew she could find another protector at the snap of her little fingers. She was beautiful, if not a little vapid, but her innate sensuality drew men like a moth seeking a flame. He’d often wondered why she had lowered herself to becoming the mistress of a mere second son, albeit the second son of a duke. It certainly wasn’t for the money. She could have earned more elsewhere.

Perhaps that was why she’d been special to him. She had wanted to be his mistress. She had chosen to be his mistress.

She’d chosen him.

It hadn’t been solely about the coin he could provide.

To her credit, she hadn’t cried, screamed, or carried on when he informed her that their time was at an end. Not after he’d explained why. At month’s end his brother, the Duke of Claymore, would announce Hadley’s engagement to Lady Claire Hampton. Hadley had promised his brother that he would start his new life as honorably as was possible with an arranged marriage.

Goddamn his brother.

Two years ago it had seemed so easy to agree with his brother’s request that he marry Claire. Now that the time was drawing near, however, he wished he could take his promise back, but he’d given his word. If a man went back on his word, how could he be trusted? A cold sweat made his shirt stick to his skin. His time was running out.

Hadley had more to worry about than an unwanted arranged marriage. A villainess as evil as any man, De Palma had to be stopped before she hurt any more of his friends or even himself. She had started a war with the Libertine Scholars in revenge for something their fathers had done to her many years ago.

He could not marry Claire and expose her to De Palma’s evil either. The Libertine Scholars had three weeks to unmask their foe, or Claire might become a target as well.

After what had happened to Marisa, Maitland Spencer’s wife . . . he wouldn’t wish her fate on any woman, not even Claire.

At the corner of the street he looked back at the quaint townhouse with deep regret. He’d been fond of Philomena and their time together.

Christ, he needed a drink. He pulled out his pocket watch.

Shortly he was expected for dinner at the townhouse of his fellow Libertine Scholar the Earl of Markham, Christian Trent, but he couldn’t face all the happily married couples without fortifying himself first.

A drink at White’s was required. He could hail a hack, but it was a fine afternoon, if a tad cool, and perhaps a walk would help him release his frustrations.

It took him more than half an hour to walk to White’s. Upon arrival, he spied a fellow Libertine Scholar, Arend Aubury, Baron de Labourd, sitting at their favorite table. Arend was the only other unmarried Libertine Scholar, and the two tended to spend more time together these days.

Arend saw him and waved one of the servants over, asking for another glass. There was a bottle of France’s finest brandy on the table.

As he took his seat, Arend commented, “You look as if you could do with a drink.”

Hadley grimaced and took the proffered glass from his friend. “It’s been one of those days when I wished I’d simply stayed in bed.”

“But not the bed of your now ex-mistress, it would seem,” Arend replied with a raised eyebrow.

Hadley turned in his chair and looked around the room. Men were staring and joking, and it was obvious they were talking about him. “It would appear news travels quicker than a man can walk.”

“Care to share why you brought your arrangement with the lovely Philomena to an end so suddenly?”

“Why? Are you interested in employing her?”

2.5 stars – rounded I’ve read the first 3 books in this series, and now I jump forward to the fifth. The connection thread in this series is the Libertine Scholars, a group of young and titled male friends, all seeking to overcome their father’s inglorious reputations. Each of the Libertines is under threat, and eac is striving to solve the questions around them as they work to their happy ever after. A second chance at romance is the theme here, when Evangeline, now widowed and Hadley come face to face. Old emotions rise to the surface, despite a rather thinly felt but frequently referred to letter. Evangeline’s efforts to explain her ‘disastrous marriage’ and her lack of actual viscerally felt conflict and hesitation when encountering Hadley again after all the years let me down. I loved this series for the LACK of ‘missish’ heroines, that cookie cutter ‘oh save me’ heroines who seemed to be missing that oomph that would make them stand out. Editorially, Bronwen Evans was let down in this story. Many passages of show not tell took from the story, and a few twists and an unnecessary death just seemed to be added for effect, with little result. Adding in the secret child, a hero who was more able to berate and claim his hurt from betrayal than show it, and a general sense of wrap this up quick to get to an end without actually moving the connecting thread forward more than a few inches left me sad. This was a series that showed some great potential, but the installments after the first couple of books have let it down. I can only hope that the original editor from book one comes back and challenges Ms. Evans to live up to her writing and storytelling potential so clearly promised in the start of this series. I received an eArc copy of the title from the publisher via NetGalley for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.

My least favorite of the series. Too many subplots that took away from the love story.

I really enjoyed this book. I have enjoyed this series. Good characters and action. Good writing. I read some of the next book and I would rather the book would start at the end of this book and move forward. I just don't like going backwards. Oh well.

Every new installment of the Disgraced Lords just gets better and better. My heart broke for Evangeline & Hadley, the trials that they were put through by the lies of those closest to them was so painful to watch. Both of them were so damaged that it seems only right that they would find each other and with a little trust and a lot of love bring warmth and joy back into their lives.

Second Chances 3.5 stars A Taste of Seduction is the fifth book in the Disgraced Lords series and a continuation of a subplot which started in book one, and continues into book 6 which involves Arend and Isobel, A Night of Forever. So if you’ve followed this series, there are secrets and revelations to the subplot but no resolutions. A Taste of Seduction is Hadley and Evangeline’s story. A story that is bittersweet and heart wrenching, but they find their happily ever after, finally, after five years apart. Though I loved the idea of a second chance at love, their romance seemed to get waylaid numerous times by the subplot which involves intrigue and suspenseful twists. As this is the first book I have read from the series. I had to research a bit from the other books to get a clear idea how the secondary characters were important to this story. The Libertine Scholars are sons of powerful aristocratic men who conducted a monstrous act, as we later find, to a dangerous villain bent on revenge. As these men are dead, the villain brings the evil machinery of vengeance on their sons’ lives. Thus each book prior focused on one son and his story at finding love. Ms Evans weaves emotions and the characterization is wonderful. I couldn’t help myself from shedding a tear over the reunion between Hadley and his son, Sealy, and the emotion over the realization of family and love, at last. And also, the heartache of discovery to what really happened that separated Hadley and Evangeline. It was so touching and heartfelt. Having said that, I wish there was more of Hadley, Evangeline and Sealy in this book. I thought there was a lot left unsaid, and wished for more depth to the story. The story did not give the justice it needed to these two wonderful main characters. Also, Evangeline does a lot of repeat internalizing of her uncertainty that became a bit redundant, but still, did not take away from the story. My oh my one more book and the Lord's well be happy? Idk about that I sure hope so. Mrs Evans has a way with words and a wonderful imagination. If only I could have written this sereis. These books have given me so much entertainment I just hate it when I get close to the end I have to go read a few chapters of another book so it won't end so quick. I live what great friendship these men have and now the women are becoming friends. Plus ever thing is not so happy with each couple like some books. These couples have sadness and struggles like anyone. Please start with book one you won't regret it. I know I read 90 percent of the time and this is truly a great writer. Thanks Mrs. Evans

I am so glad that this series continues to grow and has characters that pull you deep into their stories. The book focuses on The Libertine Scholar named Hadley. He once upon a time had his true love Evangeline and they were set to be together forever but instead she ran off and married for money and a title. This broke Hadley and led him down another path for the next five years. Until one day Evangeline returns and they must both deal with their past mistakes. Another beautifully written story. I was given a gifted copy by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Evangeline is a widow who has been married for five long and horrible years. Now she is free to look for the person who still loves so much. Hardley is the second son of a duke and he is always ready to help and protect those in need. He thought he was over Evangeline but just a look at her and all the love he felt for her is back. This is the first book I read by this author and in spite of being the fifth book in the series and that they are supposed to be read in order, I didn’t have any problem to follow the story. And I loved it. It kept my interest high from the very first page until the very last one. The story flows beautifully and it is full of twists and turns which make it very interesting. I liked the friendship between the members of the Libertine Scholars and their wives. And, of course, I liked the love the two main characters feel for each other. We can feel the deep sorrow and the impotence they felt for the five years they been separated, without knowing what really happened, being impossible for them to guess the evil plot that was set on them. When I read the last word and realized that it was a cliffhanger, I nearly have a heart attack but lucky me I have the next book and I don’t have to wait for the next installment. I’m sure it’s going to be another 5 stars.

Taste of Seduction is the fifth book in The Disgraced Lords historical romance series by Bronwen Evans. I loved the story and am a big fan of the series! Lady Evangeline and Lord Hadley Fullerton have loved each other for a very long time. They had plans of eloping so they could be together, but those plans unfortunately didn’t work out. After five long years of being broken hearted and feeling betrayed, Hadley sees Evangeline again. He is very short with her and doesn’t believe her story at first of what had happened. Being torn with trying to believe Evangeline and his curiosity of the events, he meets with her so she can prove she had nothing to do with what happened. He learns that Evangeline’s mother interfered with their plan and had her marry Lord Stuart instead. The loveless marriage was very hard for Evangeline and it unfortunately included abuse, which luckily ended when her husband died. Evangeline was only happy by spending time with her son Sealey. Hadley is one of a group of men called The Libertine Scholars. The group, has been targeted by an enemy. This madwoman wants revenge for an incident their fathers had done. When Sealey is kidnapped, they find out who the person is and have to decide how they will get justice for what has been done to them. I really enjoyed reading this story. There is so much emotion with each character. The reader can feel the love that Evangeline and Hadley have for each other, as well as the pain they experience. The men and their wives have all become a solid group of friends and help each other without hesitation. The suspense of what happens also is intriguing. I found myself not wanting to put the book down so I could see what happened next. I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series, A Night of Forever, which is Arend and Isobel’s story.

Bronwen Evans is one of my must read authors, and this book does not disappoint! I adore second chance love stories, and Hadley and Evangeline's story was one I highly anticipated. At times heartbreaking the struggles the main characters face to find their HEA fit in nicely with the overall the series. I would recommend reading the series in order as there are references to past events from pervious books.

Excellent historical read! Lady Evangeline and Lord Hadley had planned to elope and start their future together. Lord Hadley was devastated when he received Lady Evangeline’s note that she had decided to marry a title and money. Five years later Lady Evangeline is back in London and has some questions of her own for Lord Hadley. Will they find the love that was once stolen from them? This is a fast paced emotional read with lots of suspense. I was hooked from beginning to end, I am a huge fan of this series and if you love historical reads they do not disappoint. Loved it!

Evangeline loved Hadley and they were planning to run away and marry. Then Evangeline sends Hadley a note to say she was going to marry a man with money and title. After all, Hadley is only a second son. Five years later, Hadley is getting ready to marry another woman and Evangeline walks back into his life. She is now a widow. He doesn't care. He doesn't love the woman he is to marry, but at least his heart will be safe. Evangeline only wants to know why he did not come and rescue her from a man who abused her for five years. Why did he abandon her? Is all of this a misunderstanding for both of them or did someone arrange everything?

Lord Hadley Fullerton is bitter and distrustful ever since his one true love turned her back on him and married another. Money and a more prestigious title meant more to her than he did. Now after five years, Evangeline is a widow and she's looking for him. He feels nothing but disdain. Or does he? Hadley is torn between memories and what he knows is true. He will never forgive or forget his pain. To make matters worse he and the other Libertine Scholars are in mortal danger from a villainess who wants vengeance. I liked Hadley. He's honorable and loving, but I wish that he didn't rush in his judgment of Evangeline. This woman had stoically endured abuse at the hands of her husband. She didn't give up. I admired her courage and wanted her to find happiness . She focused on her child and became stronger. I enjoyed the second chance at love plot. The emotional turmoil made me shed tears. The interwoven storylines merged romance, secrets and revenge. I was on the edge of my seat as the Scholars grew closer to their enemy. Bronwen Evans has written a highly intriguing story. The setting, the dialogue and the characters come together to deliver a roller coaster ride of suspense. Just be aware that the story ends with a cliffhanger. I'm anxiously awaiting the next book. I received a copy in exchange for an honest and unscripted review.

A Taste of Seduction by Bronwen Evans is #5 in her captivating and seductive "The Disgraced Lords" series. While, this can be read as a stand alone, I would recommend reading them in order, to savor this captivating and dangerous story. Lady Evangeline Stuart, now a widow with a small son and Lord Hadley Fullerton, a second son, now the Duke of Claymore, were deeply in love, had planned to elope, but things change and both are terribly wronged. Five years later...Evie is a young widow and Hadley a Duke. They met again at a friend's dinner party. Angry with each other, for leaving the other to face the consequences of their love and the deception personally intented to hurt Hadley. Well crafted characters and an intriguing storyline makes for a heart- pounding romance. With an unknown threat and unknown enemy trying to punish the "Libertine Scholars" for the sins of their fathers, can Evie, her son, and Hadley survive the danger, to find their HEA. Fast paced, story, which continues the saga of "The Disgraced Lords" series. I have thoughly enjoyed this series. Ms. Evans is an amazing storyteller, who draws the reader into her stories and holds them in entranced. Seduction, danger, deception, deceit, passion, mistrust and romance makes for a wickedly delicious, and dangerous romance. Once again, Ms. Evans captivated me and kept me turning pages, holding my breath, as I read, hoping Evie and Hadley could survive their odeal and find their HEA. Simply mesmerizing, emotional and powerful. A must read! I can't wait to read Arend's story, learn his fate and see how the "Libertine Scholars" finally deal with their enemy and the threat that has nearly destroyed their lives and the ones they love. A wickedly delicious romp! Received for an honest review from Net Galley. However, all opinions and thoughts are my own. Rating: 4.5 Heat rating: Hot Reviewed by: AprilR

A spellbinding story of secrets, betrayals, lost love, abuse, forgiveness and retribution. This historical romance has it all. It is a love story but it is so much more than the typical historical romance. The characters are fully developed with many hidden secrets that become apparent throughout the story. Every character comes off the page and pulls the reader into who did what and why. I know that I want to go back and read the other books to the series to see how they got together. It is also a provoking story showing how two women overcome their horrible past and how they use it to define the person they became. I loved it and give it 4 STARS. I know you will love it. Will you give it a try? A copy was gifted via Netgalley

I received an eARC, from NetGalley and the publisher, in exchange for an honest review 'A Taste of Seduction' by Bronwen Evans is book five in the "The Disgraced Lords" series. I have been reading in and out of this series so I thought that this was a standalone book. I really love Ms. Evans writing and think this is a great addition to her list of books! This is the story of Lady Evangeline Stuart and Lord Hadley Fullerton and how they overcame so much to be together. Evangeline and Hardley were in love, they became lovers and wanted to also marry. But Evangeline mother had other ideas and set in motion for them to be torn apart. Now years later with Evangeline a widow and mother. Evangeline is thought to have chosen title over love. But after seeing Hardley again Evangeline just wants to try to clear things with him. Can Hardley move past the what happen back then? Evangeline has something yet to share with him?

Ok, where to start! I was only 18% into the book before I started crying! Eva was so devastated that Hadley hadn't come for her and saved her! And Hadley was so guilt ridden when he finally realized what he'd lost! The trials and tribulations that they went through and all the time they lost made them appreciate more the love they had for each other. I never saw coming all the twists and turns that the couple were put through, even after finding each other again. And then not finding out until near the end just how badly our H/h were mislead, oh my! I loved this story and now have to go back and read the first 4! The book does work as a stand-alone, but after meeting the other couples, I have to see how they came about as well.

I'm honestly not sure why I requested to read this book, as it is part of an ongoing series. There's a storyline threaded throughout that I didn't have the background information for, and therefore often skipped when those characters spoke or information was mentioned that I didn't understand. So obviously, I would not recommend this as a standalone. With that being said, if I focus on just the highlighted pair of characters for the book - Hadley and Evangeline, I thought this book was pretty good. Although not the most original plot, I did appreciate that the resolution of their problems was not dragged on, and the romance and chemistry was quite good. I think if I go back and read the books in order, I would have given this book a higher rating. But for now, it's 3.5 - but bumping up because I know this is a series I could potentially enjoy a lot. This is part of a series which I have enjoyed reading. This is the story of Evangeline and Hadley. They planned to elope and evil intervenes. Five years later, they are face to face and try to sort out their feelings. Added to this mess is the hunt for the woman wreaking havoc on the Libertine Scholars. Kidnapping, blackmail, and death push their ability to love one another without guilt, anger, or fear. Evangeline is such a positive-thinking woman regardless of the things she has undergone. She keeps others around her from doing things they may regret. Hadley flourishes under her love and support, and he desires to protect her as he had not in the past. I thoroughly enjoyed this story as I have in the previous books and highly recommend it. I received a copy of this story through Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. Treachery and Hope! Evangeline, an impoverished daughter of a late earl, was head over heels in love with Lord Hadley (2nd son of a duke). He's just as enamored with her. They planned to marry, but the best of plans can be thwarted! Years later, pain filled years, they meet again. She's been married; he's been lost. Secrets aren't all that keeps them apart! Interesting historical romance. Haven't read the series so took awhile to get into the characters. A good read. Book free from Netgalley for honest review.

This is the best so far! Part of it may be because I love Lord Fullerton. He has such a sad backstory - and it's something that actually happened to him instead of to his parents, so it was much more pressing and heart-breaking to me as a reader. As the source of his heartbreak tracks him down, things get quite interesting. These two make such an amazing couple, but there are some secrets and misunderstandings - horrible ones - between them. And, of course, they all come out at the worst possible moment. I couldn't help but cheer for these two as they tried to navigate through their new sort-or-relationship. Things kept just getting in the way. Like big things. Family obligations, honor, reputation, and the by now ever present danger of the assassin. As in previous books in the series, there is a good dose of excitement as the assassin tries once again to ruin everyone's lives. But this one does not end the same as previous books! I soooo want to tell you, but I can't. But it is very very good. Now to settle in for the wait for book 6. *This book was received in exchange for an honest review*

I adore this series. Each of the books is full of romance and a healthy dose of suspense that it will keep, you on the edge of your seat. With the series nearing it end its at the point that we've learned a great deal of the evil that is out to destroy "The Disgraced Lord". In "A Taste of Seduction" Lord Hadley Fullerton gets his HEA. Lady Evangeline is back. The woman who five years ago ripped his heart to shreds. With Hadley on the verge of doing his duty and marrying his world is spinning out of his control. Evangeline needs answers and has a huge secret. Hadley wants nothing to do with a woman who chooses money and a title over love. There's a fine line between love and hate. Hadley the protector of family and friends is about to learn just how early the evil started and the depths someone will go for revenge, including his own. I highly recommend this series and that you read them in order. They are not stand alone books. *Book Obsessed Chicks Review team

Hadley and Evangeline had planned to elope. They were madly in love, but Evangeline’s family wanted her to marry well; they were not well off, and neither was Hadley, the second son of a duke. Five years later, and Hadley has not forgotten Evangeline’s betrayal. Back in London, and now a rich widow, Evangeline needs to know if Hadley still wants to marry her. She still loves him, but what about Hadley? Hadley has more pressing preoccupations: the Libertine Scholars, of which he is a member, are getting closer to nabbing the slippery foe that has been making their life hell. Hadley doesn’t need the distraction of the beautiful Evangeline… Where to begin? A TASTE OF SEDUCTION is the most recent book in The Disgraced Lords, and although it is a continuing story that began in book 1, it is such a fabulous book that even if a little extra work would be needed on the part of a newcomer to this series, every effort will be richly rewarded. This series has been excellent from the start, and I think A TASTE OF SEDUCTION might be the best of the lot. Bronwen Evans’ characters are always superb, and Hadley and Evangeline are simply phenomenal, as are Augustus – Hadley’s older brother – and Arend, whom we had previously encountered. In A TASTE OF SEDUCTION, there is more action than ever, it’s one plot twist after the next, and there are shocking revelations. As for Hadley and Evangeline, their love story is one of the most beautiful and touching I have ever read: their love is so pure and true, no heart will be left untouched, and the sex scenes are exquisite and filled with tenderness. The prose is gorgeous, the dialogues impeccable, and seldom has an author been able to convey emotions with such power and sincerity. A TASTE OF SEDUCTION is a grand love story, tremendously exciting, and the wonderful, fabulous ending promises for the next book to be at least as brilliant! I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
