A Tenor at the Movies

A Tenor at the Movies

by Tito Beltrán

The young Chilean tenor Tito Beltrán sings this appealing program of classical arias and songs that have been featured in films. Beltrán's voice is natural and unforced, well suited for Puccini and the lighter Verdi roles; used judiciously, it should last for many years to come. The City of Prague Philharmonic conducted by Paul Bateman plays with Hollywood-style gloss and some selections are curiously reorchestrated, like the ever-popular "Nessun Dorma" from Puccini's "Turandot." But this is that rare recital which makes one eager to hear the singer in the opera house. With Beltrán and the remarkable young Peruvian Juan Diego Floréz on the upswing, The Three Tenors are likely to have company soon.
