A wonderful and engrossing book---and quite an education. I was hooked from the first chapter and never wanted to quit reading. The characters became so real and I cared so much about the two young women who end up together due to horrific circumstances. Though we may read much about Afghanistan, we never get to know the people and their lives as we do in a book like this. Its' so real, so harsh, so unforgiving. What a story, so well-written and so well told. This is a classic.

I loved Kite Runner so I thought I'd give this a try. I brought this book with me on vacation and found myself waking early before this kids got up so I could read. I didn't want it to end, but when I got to the final page, all I felt was satisfaction and I knew this one would become at the top of a very short list of my favorite stories. A great read! I would definitely recommend.

Khaled Hosseini never disappoints. After reading the Kite Runner, I couldn't help but run out and buy A Thousand Splendid Suns. I wasn't sure how it was going to compare to the Kite Runner (which had already set the bar pretty high in my opinion), but I actually ended up liking this novel even more (maybe because I am a woman). But the storyline of A Thousand Splendid Suns appealed to me a lot more... I cried many times reading this book. I cried for Laila. I cried for Mariam. I felt empathic towards both of their characters... Mariam was so inspirational and strong despite her hardships (or rather, BECAUSE of them); Laila was so loving and kind. The last line made me cry once more... But the game involves only male names. Because if its a girl, Laila has already named her... Oh man, I was bawling! If you haven't read it yet, read it! No review can do this book justice. Its just that great! Cant wait to read And The Mountains Echoed... Keep em coming, Khaled!

I read and analyzed this story with my senior AP English class and we all loved it! I couldn't put the book down when I had already read all the pages we were assigned because of how anxious I became to see what happened next! Hossieni is an amazing author and i recommend this book to to all women and people who like books that keep you guessing.
