A Touch of Flame returns readers to Frost Falls, Colorado where newly elected sheriff Ben Madison is tasked with introducing the new doctor, E. Ridley Woodhouse. When the people of Frost Falls realize their familiar Doc recommended a woman for the job getting them to actually trust her becomes a challenge she hadn't anticipated. The story is kind of slow in the beginning as it focuses on Ridley trying to establish herself in town despite prejudice and work with a difficult patient. Lily Salt is in a tough situation with four children and an alcoholic husband, but she won't reach out for help. It's a familiar tune, but Jo Goodman doesn't provide Ridley and Ben with a straightforward resolution. They have to think outside the box if they want to protect the Salt family. Things get interesting as Ridley opens up about her childhood and a dangerous robbery brings Ben and Ridley even closer together. Ben and Ridley are the intellectual types, so most of their conversations are serious. There's a little witty banter and small town antics to keep things lively. If you loved Bound For Eden by Tess LeSue, you'll enjoy A Touch of Flame! *ARC provided via First to Read in consideration for review*

Review written by Marie for Ever After Book Reviews! 4.5 Stars The title of this book is the perfect description of Ridley and Ben’s romance. It isn’t a fast-paced, heat scorching tale, but rather one that shows how the strongest bonds of friendship can evolve in to a beautiful, heart-felt love. Like I said, this book is by no means fast-paced, but it draws you in from the get go and keeps you hooked until the very end. Ben, the town’s very easy-going sheriff, takes it upon himself to convince the townspeople that their new doctor, Ridley, is more than capable of caring for them, even though she is a woman. In the process, Ben becomes enamored and charmed by Ridley, and doesn’t realize just how far in he is until Ridley is threatened by one of the residents in town. Let me tell you, the sexual tension/chemistry between Ben and Ridley is intense. You know from the moment they meet one another that regardless of how their relationship is labeled (friends, lovers, etc.), they will eventually give in to their feelings. What I loved about Ms. Goodman’s story-telling, is that before these two ever became romantically involved with one another, their attraction was so extreme, that they gave in to temptation first. While that is extremely forward thinking for the time period the story is set, it seems far more natural and helped ease these two in to what would become a beautiful romance. I loved the historical setting of the book. I loved the characters – especially Ridley. She is hard-headed, stubborn, and extremely passionate about her patients. I loved Ben’s laid back humor, and I loved the darker sub-plot of the rarely spoken about domestic violence. It brought to the forefront an issue that you wouldn’t expect to see in a romance novel and did so with great care and grace. Bravo, Ms. Goodman. This book was extremely worth reading. I very much enjoyed it, and can’t wait to visit the Cowboys of Colorado again soon! ***I voluntarily read a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and feelings are my own***

A Touch of Flame by Jo Goodman is the 2nd book in her Cowboys of Colorado series. This is a western historical romance that I really enjoyed, especially with the couple being so likable Dr. Ridley Woodhouse, our heroine, arrives in Frost Falls, Colorado to take over as the new doctor in town. When Ben Madison, our hero and the town Sheriff, meets Ridley at the train station, he is surprised that the new doctor is a woman. Ben is also very aware that the town will not accept Ridley easily, and that she had her work cut out to prove herself. At first Ridley was somewhat cold to Ben, but in time that will change. Ridley pushes herself to help those in need, proving to them that she can do the job, with word of mouth slowly alerting people that she is very capable. The long road ahead will find Ridley also in the middle of a family suffering abuse by the drunken husband, with Ben having to step in to protect Ridley. What follows is a sweet slow build romance between Ben, who quickly begins to fall for Ridley, which also starts warming her up from the strict cold start. They were so great together, as the romance was fun, humorous and their chemistry was sensual. It was also enjoyable to get to know many of the town’s people, and how Ridley besides doctoring them, quietly manages to help some of them with their own personal issues. The main focus beside Ben and Ridley, and the town residents, was the abusive drunk, who would beat his wife, with the scared children going to Ben or Ridley for help. He was becoming too dangerous, and Ben would not let Ridley go to their house alone. This did create a lot of tension and danger into the mix of this wonderful romance, and town. It was nice to see Phoebe and Remington (first book heroes) again, and after Ridley helps Phoebe deliver her baby, the woman in town begin to open their arms to accept Ridley. I did love Ridley, who was a strong & independent young lady, and in time, as her romance with Ben heated up, was a fun heroine. I also adored the handsome Ben, who a wonderful hero, great sheriff and perfect for Ridley & Frost Falls. There also was two major things that happened in the town that brought about danger and sadness, which touched on our heart. Jo Goodman did an excellent job in creating a wonderful couple in Ben and Ridley, and a story which had a lot of humorous banter, tragedy and an enjoyable romance. If you enjoy romance, a western and historical background, with a fun sexy couple, then you should read A Touch of Flame.

A Touch Of Flame by Jo Goodman is a fantastic historical western romance. Ms. Goodman has delivered a well-written book and loaded it with phenomenal characters. I love the characters in this book, they give you a true small-town feel. Ridley moves to Frost Falls to take over her Godfather's medical practice. Ben is the town sheriff and Ridley's neighbor. Ben and Ridley's story is packed with drama, humor, spice and suspense. I especially enjoyed the dialog between Ben and Ridley. This book hooked me from the start and I enjoyed it cover to cover. I look forward to reading more from Jo Goodman in the future. A Touch Of Flame is book 2 of The Cowboys of Colorado Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger. I won a copy of this book from Goodreads.
