For one, Adelina didn't plan for the faith and friction of Reese, or the unexpected influence of his chaotic family. Now, drawn into a culture she'd tried to forget, Adelina finds the warmth of family, the hope of faith, and the joy of love melting away the deep wounds of her past.

But when Reese discovers that he's a pawn in her climb up the academic ladder, will he forgive Adelina's deceit or will their miscommunication end in two broken lives?

One word. CHEMISTRY! This is the first book I've read by Pepper Basham and it won't be the last. Amazing characters and plot twists and setting. And did I mention the chemistry? This book has everything I look for in a Christian romance. Perfection!

A Twist of Faith, by Pepper Basham, is the first book in the Mitchell’s Crossroads Series. This entertaining novel is an extremely clever retelling of “Pygmalion” or “My Fair Lady” complete with contemporary plot twists, genuine humor, and swoon-worthy romance. The pacing of the plot is seamless, thoroughly engaging the reader page after page. The characters are extremely well-developed and their dialogue is full of real-life wit and wisdom. The characters are wholly relatable and intriguing as they pursue their dreams, grapple with grace and forgiveness, and soften their hearts in unexpected ways. This novel is funny, romantic, surprising, inspiring, and utterly endearing. It is a remarkable start to a series I cannot wait to continue reading. A Twist of Faith is delightful from beginning to end, and I enthusiastically recommend it to all readers.

Reese Mitchell is all kinds of swoony. From his unpolished accent to his tender-loving heart. Dee swoops into town and is hoping to swoop out just as quickly...That is until God grabs a hold of her heart. Tormented with the fears and expectations of the past, Dee has very low expectations that anyone would be able to accept her for who she is. I LOVE when authors infuse the love of the Father into the hero. Reese is a fire-lightin', dirty diaper changin', backwoods raised, pure Appalachian, man. Dee, although raised in the mountains has her eyes set on a much bigger prize...in her opinion. Both Dee and Reese have unforgiveness and hurts of the past that they must learn to let go of. Forgiveness can be hard to give, and harder to receive in some cases. Especially the forgiveness that God has for us. Knowing that we don't deserve it and yet He showers us with His grace daily. Pepper Basham captures the grace and love of the Father in a tender and touching story that will move your heart and open your eyes to the forgiveness and redemption that He has for you. I received a complimentary copy of A Twist of Faith from the author. I was not required to write a positive review. All opinions expressed are mine alone.

Handpicked for an experimental satellite program at Blue Ridge University in the rural Appalachian town of Ransom, Va., accent reduction specialist Adelina "Dee" Roseland, PhD is appointed the Assistant Chair of the Department of Communicative Disorders. Feeling her inexperienced, Dr. Alexander "Alex" Murdock - her immediate supervisor and research assistant of 4 years - plans to present Dee's research at the National Conference of ASHA, an annual speech-language pathologist and audiologist convention. Driven and obsessed to achieve her dream job of full professor at UVA Charlottesville, Dee accepts a wager with Alex: take any hillbilly in town and pass him/her off as a sophisticated individual within the span of 10 weeks. The prize: the opportunity to present the research herself, with hopes of the coveted job offer. When unshaved, burly, rugged-looking Reese Mitchell arrives at Dee's job, clad in overalls and cap, to escort her to her new home at his family's rental house - his vowel mutilation convinces Alex that Reese is the perfect subject for the wager. With the death of his stepfather from cancer and his brother Trigg unable to work due to cancer also, both within 2 years - Reese feels the need to secure a more lucrative job to help pay bills and alleviate any danger of losing the family farm. Even though protesting, "I ain't up for feeling like an idiot to learn lessons on how to talk right" - Reese is convinced by Dee to participate in her "research" with a promise it will help him secure a position for which he has an interview scheduled in Chicago. Having a deceased father who had worked long, hard hours, an alcoholic mother who spent too much time away from home, and only having felt the tenderness of love from her Granny Roseland - Dee has a different view of home and parenthood than Reese. Fearful of recreating her past, she instead focuses on her work. Since the betrayal of deceased wife Jana, Reese has been both mother and father to 7 year-old daughter Lou and toddler son Brandon. He fears becoming involved with another woman he can't trust. As Dee becomes attracted to Reese's gentleness and the safe feeling he provides, she feels guilt over the deception of the wager she has made. Pepper Basham's first contemporary, 'A Twist of Faith', is a beautiful literary adaptation of My Fair Lady. Filled with realistic characters (including some 4-footed ones, such as Gypsy the cow and Haus the smiling hound), humor, forgiveness, reconciliation, love, faith, tenderness, amazing quotes, and realization of new dreams only God could provide - I found 'A Twist of Faith' heart-warming and a joy to read! Thank you to the publisher for providing me with a copy of 'A Twist of Faith' for my honest opinion, which I have given.

This was my first time reading Basham's work so I had no idea what to expect but that cover did get my attention! Even though it was a slow start, I could easily see where the story was going and it ended up being a DELIGHTFUL read for me. Absolutely loved the Mitchell family and Basham does a remarkable job of writing wonderful dialogue!!! I was also deeply touched by the romance, and both main characters having to get over past hurts. I cried a lot while reading this, but in a good way but the story also had me smiling throughout. I'm having trouble finding good books that are keeping my attention lately, this book did so effortlessly :) One of my fave scenes is at the end when Dee is in an accident and she senses God's presence with her, never once being afraid even though she is badly injured. Highly recommended and it's easy to say that Basham now has a new reader!

This book is perfectly perfect! Mountains, accents, rugged hard working man with a soft heart, comfort food, sweet little people (with adorable accents!), and HEALING!!! Love. Love. Love! Pepper Basham has firmly planted herself on my all time favorite authors list. I don’t even need to know what her next book is about to know that I want to read it!!! I requested this title from the publisher, Lighthouse Publishing of the Carolinas, in order to present an honest review. The opinions expressed are my own.

Despite the fact that Doctor Adelina Roseland doesn't like dogs and is from the city, Reese Mitchell's degree is from Virginia Tech and hers is from UVA, and that she is bound and determined to stay away from rural Appalachia, when she takes a wager to reduce Reese's Appalachianism in ten weeks to prepare him for a job interview in Chicago, will the end result be she gets the dream of her life, or will she realize dreams change? Can Reese convince Adelina her notions of Appalachia are misguided? Adelina Roseland has her first job after acquiring her PhD, in rural Appalachia, a place she said she'd never return to. She accepts a wager from her supervisor, but will winning cause her to lose her heart? What about her dream of living in the city? Reese is having a hard time not falling for her, but he's too busy with his kids, the farm, and his brother's illness. When Adelina offers to help him with his upcoming interview, he decides he needs this job to provide income for his family. And talking better, looking better, can only help his chances of getting this job he so desperately needs. The sparks fly when these two try working together. Humor, love, forgiveness, and realizing God's grace makes this a story I'll read over and over. Will Reese move to the big city? Can Adelina move to the country and they both get their dream come true? Or will they turn their backs on love to pursue what they've spent years striving for? A Twist of Faith is a story of letting God lead you and finding what He has in store for you. Reese and Adelina find out it may not look anything like they thought it would. If you love books that come with a dose of humor as well as faith, family, and flirting, then you need to be running right out to order a copy of this delightful book! A Twist of Faith speaks my language. It’s funny. It’s endearing. It’s heartwarming. And it’s got a swoony hero who chops firewood and has darling kids and banters adorably with the heroine. A Twist of Faith puts a delightfully Appalachian and modern spin on “My Fair Lady” – and does so with such wit and warmth that readers will be grinning like Haus the dog through the whole read. The characters – primary and secondary… even tertiary, for that matter – will steal your heart and sometimes your breath, and the romantic tension swirls deliciously through any scene in which Reese and Dee share the page. The message of faith is tender and organic – never preachy – and settles around your shoulders like a hug from Reese’s mama. If you’re a fan of Becky Wade or Denise Hunter (for CBA readers), or Kristan Higgins in the general market, you need to make sure you put A Twist of Faith on your wish list! (I received a copy of this book in exchange for only my honest review.)

This book was so much fun to read. It got me in the Feels. I laughed so hard and I felt all the emotions that the characters felt. This is the first book that I have read from this author and I loved it! In fact, I downloaded another of her books immediately because she has me hooked on her writing. I loved Reese the hero. He was the epitome of what a hero should be. He was intelligent, handsome, gentle and strong. I fell in love with him from the beginning. I loved the heroine too. Dee had some growing to do and I loved how she grew as a person spiritually throughout the book. This book was a fun romance, but it also had a wonderful inspirational message as well. This book has made it to one of my top favorites of all time. I look forward to reading upcoming books in the series. I highly and wholeheartedly recommend this book!

I enjoyed this story tremendously! A Twist of Faith is the third book by Pepper Basham that I have read, and I have loved each one! In this case, I listened to the audiobook version of the story. I thought that the narrator did a fabulous job with the various accents and dialects of these characters. She had a very soothing voice that added to the feeling of being in rural Appalachia. As for the story, when the book began I wasn’t very fond of Dr. Adelina Roseland. She seemed a bit stuck up and had preconceived notions about many things. I wondered why she acted as she did. Of course, the author proceeded to do a beautiful job of opening up who this character was, which allowed me to understand her backstory. I ended up loving Adelina! As for Reese Mitchell, he had me from the get go! What a terrific character! Now, he had his faults, too. He carried around some baggage that got in the way a time or two, but he had an amazing heart and was such a good dad to his kids. A Twist of Faith is now a top favorite of mine. I look forward to reading or listening to the next book in the series. And if you are looking for an enjoyable audiobook to listen to, I definitely recommend this one.

If you enjoy a fun romance novel that adds a modern spin of “A Fair Lady“, then you’ll want to check out “A Twist of Faith” by Pepper D. Basham. I immediately fell in love with Ramson, a small Appalachian mountain town and all of the people in it, especially the Mitchell family. Dee is a memorable and relatable character. Who she is at the beginning of the book is not who she is by the end. It was a wonderful blessing to watch her journey. We first meet Dee as this stand-offish, almost snobby kind of woman who is wounded, closed off, refuses to trust easily, and is angry. But then, we get to watch her transform into a woman who believes in God, learns about compassion, mercy, the love of God, and forgiveness. And then there is Reese. Who doesn’t love a good looking farmer who chops wood and helps cows give birth? He may not have the best grammar, but he is genuine and will do whatever it takes to help someone in need, even if that person is getting under his skin. It was also charming to watch how he interacted with his children and how much his children adored him. Plus, it helps that he has a strong faith in God and refuses to give up on Dee. I think I have a major crush! There are several moments where Mrs. Basham sprinkles the Truth in, but it is done perfectly well without taking away from the story. This is a book that includes a wonderful picture of what salvation and the unconditional love of God looks like. Highly recommended for fans who enjoy authors such as Melissa Tagg and Susan May Warren. You won’t want to miss out on this beautiful series! In the meantime, I’m immediately beginning the sequel, “Charming the Troublemaker“. Disclaimer: A huge thank you goes to Beth from Faithfully Bookish for allowing me to borrow her e-book copy to read. All opinions expressed are completely my own.
