The Western world teaches us that happiness comes from achievementfrom setting goals and actively pursuing them. Eastern wisdom teaches us that surrender is the key, that we must let go in order to experience the great flow of being that is only available in the present moment. How do we take the best wisdom from both of these approaches, and honor what Dr. Andrea Polard calls “the two wings of happiness” that allow us to truly soar?
Discover Dr. Polard's groundbreaking synthesis of Western thinking and Eastern philosophy with A Unified Theory of Happiness, a warm and personalized guide for the transformation of consciousness that allows personal well-being and fulfillment to flourish. While our lives are full of ups and downs, Dr. Polard teaches us that we don't have to let these ups and downs control our experience of life. A Unified Theory of Happiness teaches you the skills to choose and accept happiness by illuminating:
- How to navigate the active “Basic Mode” and the non-active “Supreme Mode” of consciousness to respond to life's complexities with flexibility
- Tools to build ambition, competence, confidence, and connectionessential aspects of reconciling with life's fragility and building an engaging, authentic self
- Paths to receptivity, tranquility, reliance, and lightheartednesskeys to accessing your natural connection with the whole of being, and realizing your non-dual self

"A unified Theory of Happiness" is an exceptional book! There are so many books about happiness out there, but Mrs Polard found a way of summarizing all different approaches, and in an unique way she points out very helpful tools to all of us on our search of happiness in our lives. The book obviously is written on a scientific basis as well as on personal and deeply felt experiences in Mrs Polards life. She seems to be a real expert on "happiness" and this makes it so convincible. "A unified Theory of Happiness" is written in a very personal and warm-heartened way, it is entertaining to read but always on the path of seriousness and truth. Even for me as a non-native speaker the book is a joy to read, it makes you feel that you are seen as a person. Beside reading through you can also use it as your personal reference guide. There is a "Happiness Questionnaire" (also found on her website), which you can fill out for yourself, and than choose which chapters in the book are the most relevant for your life. "A unified Theory of Happiness" should be in your bookshelf, seen as a dictionary for Happiness!
A Unified Theory of HappinessAn East-Meets-West Approachto Fully Loving Your Lifeby Andrea F. Polard, PsyDI enjoyed reviewing this 367 page masterpiece and it really brought home one of my favorite quotes, "Spiritual Principles are never in conflict". The author was able to show us that desire and non-desire can play together very nicely if done from a place of joy and fullness. I loved the flowing format and also the conclusion chapter that breaks it down and brings it all together. I would recommend this great find to anyone looking for the middle path of light and happiness. Thanks Andrea, it's nice to finally find the balance.Love & Light,Riki Frahmann
This is absolutely a must read book if you are serious about understanding happiness on a deep intellectual level and/or just want to become happier. Andrea Polard has obviously done her research, read hundreds of great resources (so we don’t have to), summarized it very nicely, comes across extremely passionate about the subject and more importantly for some readers clearly lives it. Combining a scientifically proven research from the west with east tradition is not easy thing to do. And Andrea has done an awesome job there. I truly love the exercises she provided to us as an extra resource. Read it, understand it, and apply it in your life.
