A Viking for the Viscountess by Michelle Willingham

Juliana Arthur, the Viscountess Hawthorne, has been thrown out of her husband's estate and her marriage declared invalid. With a small son to care for, she desperately needs a strong hero to rescue them from poverty and suffering.

A Viking wasn't quite what she had in mind.

Arik Thorgrim is caught between worlds. After dying from a battle wound, he expects to find the glory of Valhalla where he can dwell among the gods. Instead, he's brought forward a thousand years in time, to a beautiful woman who tempts him beyond reason.

Juliana doesn't know what to do with this sinfully handsome Viking warrior who brings weapons into a ballroom and refuses to be tamed. Yet beneath his barbaric ways is a man of honor, a man who vows to face down her enemies and fight for her son's future. But as Arik wages a battle against her heart, Juliana is afraid of loving a man whose time has already run out...

What a great story. Loved the storyline. Michelle is such a great author. Arik and Juliana share a bond. Arik was betray by his betrothed and Juliana was betrayed by her "husband" Arik is a fierce Viking from 811 and is sent ahead 1000 years to meet up with Juliana to  help her and her son, but only has a month before he is to die for a second time. This story will have you in tears. A must read for every Viking lover.

I'm not one who likes time travel books in general, but man this one was done right. Major props to Michelle Willingham on doling such a fine job. This book had me hooked right from the beginning. The hero Arik was such perfect hero material. He was just what Juliana and her son needed in their lives. Arik has traveled a thousand years in the future with a time limit he believes his second chance will give him the glory he is looking for in Valhalla, but what happens when Juliana and her son worm their way into his heart?

Michelle Willingham books are always exceptional, heartwarming, sexy and superbly written and as always this was no different. This is her brand new time travel series (A Most Peculiar Season) book 1, in "A Viking for the Viscountess". In A Viking for the Viscountess in this sexy historical time travel is about Viking Jarl Arik Thorgrim in East Anglia, in the year 811. He has been been betrayed by the woman he is betrothed to Svala after he finds her in a compromising position with his most hated enemy Eyker. Being so deceived believing she an innocent virgin and finding her in bed with his enemy makes him want revenge so he goes to murder her lover. When Arik goes to murder Eyker he is struck from behind with a battle-axe.  Arik knows he is dying but knows he will knows he will rejoice in Valhalla he is on the ship on way to his brothers house and knows he is dying. Arik's last coherent thought is: Would that I could have another chance at life! Now wishing he took a quiet wife with some children of his own blood to carry his blood. Suddenly he knew he was dead no longer feeling the pain of his wounds bouncing in around with the rough waters and suddenly he sees a woman drowning in the sea. He immediately dives in to save her thinking she might be an eternal gift from the gods! Norfolk England, 1811 One Thousand Years later: Juliana Hawthorne, Viscountess of Hawthorne has been humiliated and scorned by being abandoned by her cruel ruthless husband and now her brother in law Marcus has told her her marriage is invalid and she was no more then a glorified mistress. The problem is this husband has disappeared quite possibly even dead as she needs proof so her son can get the land and titles he is entitled to and not be labeled a bastard. Juliana is now living in the small house in need of many repairs of her deceased father who was a fisherman. Even though her mother was a titled Baron, Juliana's mother was disinherited when she married her fisherman father. Even though cut off financially and socially her parents were in love and extremely happy. Now with both her parents dead and her Grandmother who gave her her first season who wanted to mold her into a lady.  Juliana feels that her snobby Grandmother wanted to turn her into something the ton would accept as her horrid grandmother! So now there was only Juliana, her son Harry, and her maid since childhood Grelod.  Grelod had left Norway for work in London know only the Norwegian tongue which she taught Juliana too. Grelod is more like family and extremely upset that Juliana's living in a hovel like a beggar when she should be living like a Queen. Grelod still believes in lot of her people's old Norse legends, folklore, magic, superstitions and as she tells Juliana to leave an offering to the sea as she whispers her own Norse prayer not realizing the power behind it, When Arik comes and meets Juliana this chemistry and heat is there from the beginning and she first think he might be insane . Well he does attempt to do battle with a grandfather clock! Think her son should learn how to use a dagger at age five to defend himself so yes they are both used to different worlds and customs. Even as simple as one using utencils to eat with and one using hands only. Although Arik does look very familiar to her she just can't place who he reminds her of and when she does that's a story in itself!  Arik also knows he is just in between worlds only for a limited time as he does not belong or believe one can have a second life. He also feels in a sense once he shows goodness and makes up for past life mistakes, he will be able to rejoice with his brothers in Valhalla for eternity. Both his mission and obsession is to make sure Juliana and Henry are protected and get back which was taken from them.  It is interesting to watch how both character change and come into their own in a sense due to their connection to each other which I found both fascinating and heartwarming. This book has so many twists and turn, surprises, fast paced and the love scenes are extremely heated all in all another great fun read!  You will be captivated right from the beginning all way through the epilogue!  I read this in one sitting as it's one of those I can't put it down books, a definite shelf keeper! As always Ms. Willingham blew me away again and I highly recommend this wonderful fabulous read. I can't wait to see her next historical time-travel read in her new (A Peculiar Season )series in book 2, as this first book of the series definitely knocked it out of the park for me! Loved it!

OMG!! I fell in love with this book!  Michelle, you have gone above and beyond on this story. How does she come up with such an overboard (literally) story line? She has grabbed the best people to live this story. Who would have thought you can mix Vikings, era 811, with a Viscountess, era 1811. Arik is dying after being betrayed by his fiancee. He is sailing home to die. Juliana has been abandoned for 6years years by her husband or has she. There are so many spoilers in this book. Not to mention a few Gods and some Magic. You really have to read this book sight unseen to completely enjoy it. Oh, by the way grab snacks and tissues as it is a " can't put down story"!  I have this book for an honest review for Michelle Willingham.

Arik just plows ahead in everything.  Because that's what Vikings do.  He meets Juliana and decides that he needs to help her so that he can move on with his death.  Juliana has been betrayed by her "husband" and is trying to find a way to help her son.  Arik believes that he can put things to right and then move on.  Wrong!  They have a timeless love.
