Overview

The backstage NASCAR race-week action is one of the most secretive and fascinating aspects of the racing world, and for the first time ever, fans have full access to every aspect of race week at Talladega and Darlington, even the top-secret post-race inspections, with this exciting book. The very best photojournalists cover Hendrick Motorsports, Haas CNC Racing, and MB2/MBV Motorsports, who allow an unprecedented, behind-the-scenes view of every aspect of racing, from traveling on team planes to the machine shops, the pits, the garages, and more.

Editorial Reviews

Library Journal
Devoted to one entire week on the NASCAR (National Association of Stock Car Racing) circuit, this book follows not only the race action itself but also the action surrounding the race at Talledega Superspeedway on May 1, 2005. The narrative follows teams as they arrive on site, prepare and test the cars, and meet to strategize. Then it covers the grueling 500-mile race itself. More than half of the book consists of photos, and the large-format and full-color reproductions make this a volume of particular interest to racing fans. While other NASCAR photo books are available, the access given photographers of the specialty magazine NASCAR Scene by security-minded officials at the sanctioning body means that this book offers documentation unavailable elsewhere. For example, access was granted to the post-race inspection area where the winning car is scrutinized and examined to see if it meets all regulations. Until now, no reporters or photographers have been allowed there, so these are the first detailed photos of how this analysis is conducted. Interviews with top drivers round out the book and increase its appeal. Sure to be a winner with racing fans of all ages, this book is recommended for public libraries as well as those with transportation or motorsports specialties.
