As a retired  children's librarian, it saddens me to see such ridiculous reviews (I.e. Free iPad and borrow  first as its dark)  just encourage people to read overviews or professional reviews to get an idea  if the book is right for your child's age. This set of books are wonderful  even so many years after their publication. She was  a mother and author so her stories aim children to love  family and to be brave in tough times. "Dark stories" (read at the appropriate  age and child's temperament) can help kids know That there are dragons, but love can conquer them.

Have read this book several times and still find it enjoyable. Do not say that about many books.

The stories themselves are fine, but when I first bought a copy of this version, the cover had been bound on upside down. I exchanged it (with no trouble) for a different copy that has the cover on the correct way and later discovered the ribbon bookmark had some damage. I trimmed off the damaged bit and now have a much shorter ribbon bookmark. Not happy with their quality control...
