Abandoned (Smoky Barrett Series #4) by Cody McFadyen

For FBI Special Agent Smoky Barrett, her colleague’s wedding is cause for celebration. Until a woman staggers down the aisle—incoherent, wearing only a white nightgown. A fingerprint check determines that she’s been missing for nearly eight years. Her coldly efficient captor toyed with her mind and body, imprisoning her, depriving her of any contact with the outside world. As Smoky fits together the pieces of what remains of the victim’s fractured life, a chilling picture emerges of a cerebral psychopath who doesn’t take murder personally, never makes a mistake, follows his own sinister logic, and has set the perfect trap.

This is the first book by this author that I have read.....it was also the latest one in his series with this character....wish I had started at the beginning of the books. I was very impressed and glad that I decided to try him....I am an avid James Patterson fan along with Kay Hooper and this book was probably one of the best I have read....and believe me, I read a lot of books.....

4th in the series and once again Smoky is up to her neck in darkness and terror. Cody writes a strong women character in Smoky. This woman has been through hell and back, has seen the most evil of minds and continues to be tested to her limits and still has the compassion to mother a broken child. When I grow up, I want to be just like Smoky..with hunky honey included. Will not spoil the book, lets just say that Smoky not only goes after evil but most times evil goes and finds her. As the case in this book, Smoky has to rely on her guts and wits to survive. Will she ever live a normal life...lets hope not!! Cody...don't stop writing..you are now my BFA (BEST FAV AUTHOR)

I came across a Special Agent Barrett book in the section that identifies what other books have been read by readers of the book I was deciding whether I was interested in reading. One of the comments said to start with the first book, which I did about a week and a half ago. I have since read all 4 of the books in the series and absolutely loved them! I now anxiously await the next book in the series! I'd recommend this book to anyone that likes well-written page turners!

I just came across this book and sounded interesting so I bought it on my NOOK and i was not disappointed. It kept me wanting more and I did not want to put the book down I was just enveloped in the story. it's has all the emotions you could want in a book love, anger, hurt, scared. Keeps you guessing. Cody McFadyen is a wonderful thriller author. I just purchased Shadow Man and am excited to get into the story.

Enjoyed the book, however I felt the author got a bit carried away creating protaganists with extremely traumatic life histories - to the point of detracting from an otherwise excellent book.

Completely piece meal. I tried to find a reason for this but ended up with a short story with a lot of words just thrown in to make the book have more pages. A sad and disappointing book.

It's a good read...albeit, I did skip a page or two...but it has quite a few interesting parts... It's a good book. Not great, but good.

Bought this at a bargain price. It is the latest release of a series so I went back to the first book which also had very good reviews. It became a real struggle to finish that first book, maybe it's just me but I found the narration to be very repetitive, long winded, and awfully dull. Started reading the new release hoping that the flow of the writing would have improved. Dropped the book after two chapters......painful.

This was just an ok book. It had some of the makings of a Gillian Flynn book or the TV series Criminal Minds, but without the sophistication. I didn't find the main character believable at all. Seriously, no one has that kind of life and keeps going back for more. There were several characters who were introduced in remarkable detail, and then cast aside and never mentioned again. That's sloppy story telling. One of those characters (Raymond) would have made an excellent twist as the bad guy. Not sure why the author concluded the story in a different way. Too bad. Anyway, the book was interesting enough for a commuter book. Don't think I would read anything else by this author, though.

This was a good couldn't-put-down book. Helps if you're computer literate, which I'm not, as the story has quite a bit of the use of technology, but it's a great thriller, regardless. Want to read more of his books.
