My brother got me to read this he said it was awsome and holycow he was rite hope you love this sierese to. 5 stars
Do you like adventure? Do you like books with lots of suspense and action? Then I recommend you try Above! At first, I honestly didn’t expect the book to be as awesome as it was because the plot did not seem to be interesting enough to be enjoyable. It seemed like the protagonists were just going to meet the antagonists and fight, so I was excited when the plot started to get interesting. I recommend this book to teenagers around 12-13 years of age because this book is a little more intense than some younger kids would like. Above is a book about three teenagers, Pat O’Toole, his brother Coop, and Kate, a girl who has lived underground her entire life. Kate’s parents were murdered by her grandfather, who was named Lawrence at birth, but changed his name to Lod (Lord of the Deep). Lod is trying to gain power by killing all the leaders of the world above ground. Kate suddenly disappears and Coop, Pat, and Alex, a librarian who used to work for Lod, find out she has been kidnapped by Lod and his team. Although Kate acted relaxed and happy with Lod, she was trying to escape, leaving clues behind for the others to follow. Then things turn for the worse when Lod finds out that Kate has been lying to him. Lod plans to kill her for her disobedience. Then Alex goes missing, and when Pat and Coop find him, all three of them are trapped by Lod and his group. Will they escape Lod’s evil grasp? Or will they be killed before they can escape his team? I rate this book 4 stars because even though it has lots of excitement and suspense, the main characters don’t have a big enough backstory, at least in my opinion. Since each part of the book it is exciting in its own way, I couldn’t really find a favorite part, but I mainly enjoy the situations where they try to escape from Lod. Ryan S. 11, Mensa Alaska
Coop, Pat and Kate have all escaped Beneath, much to the dismay of the POD. The trio decide to meet in Portland (Oregon. Smith is a Portland native) hoping that they will all actually be able to reunite there. Filled with a few twists and turns, Smith does a nice job continuing the adventure and potentially leaving it open for yet another title in the series. This is a "go-to" series for me when talking with kids about books
