About the Author

DV Berkom is the USA Today best selling author of two action-packed thriller series featuring strong female leads: Leine Basso and Kate Jones. Her love of creating resilient, kick-ass women characters stems from a lifelong addiction to reading spy novels, mysteries, and thrillers, and longing to find the female equivalent within those pages. Raised in the Midwest, she earned a BA in political science from the University of Minnesota and promptly moved to Mexico to live on a sailboat. Several years and many adventures later, she wrote her first novel and was hooked. Bad Spirits, the first Kate Jones thriller, was published as an online serial in 2010 and was immediately popular with eBook fans. Dead of Winter, Death Rites, and Touring for Death soon followed before she began the far grittier Leine Basso series in early 2012 with Serial Date. D.V. currently lives in the Pacific Northwest with her husband, Mark, and several imaginary characters who like to tell her what to do. Her most recent books include Absolution, Dark Return, The Last Deception, A Killing Truth, Cargo, Vigilante Dead, A One Way Ticket to Dead, and Yucatán Dead. Another awesome book by D.V. Berkom. It was a page turner I could not put down. The plot was exciting and intense. I felt myself wanting the same revenge on Salome as the main character Leine. Leine fought until the end to save the ones she loved, her friends and family. Berkom tied up some loose ends yet, as always, leaves the wonder of what will come next.. I wait with great anticipation for the next book by D.V. Berkom! Mary Moody

I got lost in the writing as I am drawn in deeper…and I am not surprised with D V Berkom. This strong character faces danger in every story and this antagonistic villain has a personal agenda that places Leine Basso in her sights. Leine Basso will stop at nothing to protect those she loves, so she isolates herself as she hunts Salome, the one that got away in Dark Return. Danger…intrigue… Never a dull moment. Who’s the mole? I figured wrong and D V Berkom is great at surprising me that way. The betrayal is well hidden and the red herrings kept me guessing. And Jinn. I would love to read more about Jinn, a very special young girl. I voluntarily reviewed a free copy of Absolution by D V Berkom.

Once again, DV Berkom provides us with a treat with her latest installment in the Leine Basso series. You would assume that things would be getting a bit stale and boring by now but you would be wrong. Leine finds herself in a life and death struggle with her nemesis, Salome, a particularly nasty terrorist and assassin (are there any other kinds!) who is after Leine and those she holds most dear. Leine has to use all her skills honed when she herself was an assassin but also those gained whilst working for an organisation called SHEN who rescue victims of human trafficking. What we are provided with in this book is action, adventure and a thrill-a-minute. What we are not provided with is loads of bad language, gratuitous violence and graphic descriptions of death ... don't get me wrong, there is violence but nothing that you would not expect in a book dealing with assassins, terrorism and trafficking; the author just doesn't go over the top, in fact she doesn't need to as she just lets her writing and the story do the talking. With excellent characters - and I am particularly pleased to see the return of Jinn, the little streetwise girl Leine saved from being murdered in "Dark Return" - suspense from start to finish and an exciting story, this book grabbed me by the "short and curlies" and refused to let go until the last letter. I want to thank DV Berkom for providing me with a copy in return for an honest review and for writing another fantastic book which I have no hesitation in recommending this and the rest of the series to anyone but particularly those of you who love a strong, female lead character who has a sensitive and loving side but who is not afraid to kick some rear ends!

If you love a well developed story line, characters that grow and change and thrilling action scenes, you should love it too.

If you like action/adventure this book is for you. From the first page to the last there is action that keeps you reading to the end. Leine cuts all ties with everyone to go on this mission and that is just where it starts. I highly recommend this book.

Leine is back and better than ever.... As someone who has been following the Leine Basso series I was so excited to read this latest installment. It did not disappoint on any level. I thoroughly enjoy the adrenalin-fueled adventure (the author is truly gifted with an abundance of imagination), but I also greatly appreciate the skillful way D. V. Berkom presents the characters with various situations, challenges, and experiences that clearly influence the development of that character. The main story in each book is satisfactorily resolved but there are secondary/background story lines that allow one book to neatly segue into the next. There are several supporting characters which appear in multiple books and they, like the main character, are evolving as the series progresses. This story featured another conflict with Salome, a diabolical terrorist with a grudge against our protagonist, Leine. Salome plunged the depths of depravity in this installment and took things to a personal level in her attempt to exact revenge on Leine for having foiled her previous plans. Bottom line: if you enjoy enthralling plots, high-octane action, exotic locales, and an intelligent and supremely capable heroine (Leine kicks a**), you will love this series. Unlike many books of this genre, you are not deluged with foul language, you will not be subjected to excessively gruesome descriptions, and you will not be taunted by a cliffhanger ending. There is violence but violence is neither unexpected or unwarranted in a story about fighting human trafficking and terrorism. This story will draw you in and keep you turning the pages until the very end. Highly recommended. D. V. Berkom is awesome. I received an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Leine Basso a former assassin severed all ties with the people she loves because they are in danger. She is hunting a ruthless terrorist, who wants Leine and all her loved ones dead. Leine is doing everything she can to find the terrorist and get rid of her. Lots of twists, turns and action that keep you on the edge of your seat all through the book. There are also people who are on her side that she has worries that they can be trusted. So if you like books with action this is a must read.

If you like action/adventure, then you'll love this one. Unless you count Santa's reminiscence of Leine and hers of him, you'll never find a dull moment. Even that part will keep you awake. Seems like Jack Reacher is the measuring stick by which most adventure novels are compared, then so be it - even though neither needs the other, Leine and he would make an awesome team. I read for enjoyment, but I am also a picky reader. I read word by word (can seem to get to where I read "thoughts" or sentences) consequently that makes me sensitive to his-ups along the way. I found nothing remarkable in that vain, here. Good read! ~

Another Leine Basso thriller. Salome, Leine'e arch enemy is leaving clues so Leine will track her down. Salome tries to capture and kill Leine's close friends and relative. Leine sends Jinn to a safe haven, but is it really safe? Action packed and an exciting conclusion. D V Berkom is one of the best thriller story tellers. This thriller does not disappoint.
