Absolution is yet another winner from DV Berkom. Her combination of a compelling protagonist in Leine Basso and a well-crafted plot helps to keep this book at the high level of her other books. The plot moves quickly but never gets convoluted. The twists are more about how Basso will handle the hurdles she encounters as compared to a classic whodunit where there are multiple twists designed to throw off the reader. That said, there are twists here designed to keep the reader guessing some things but most of the twists are in the plot line itself. If you're familiar with the series then you won't be disappointed. If you aren't familiar with the series you're in for a treat. That said, I would suggest you start with the first in the series, though this can be read as a standalone, Berkom gives enough information to keep you from getting lost. The thing is, you'll want to read more after this one and you may feel like you learned more than you wanted to learn about her past cases to really enjoy the earlier volumes fully. If you're a reader who likes a strong badass woman as the lead in a story, you'll love this novel as well as the entire series.
