If you are a serious developer of Access applications, this is the best source of information I have ever found. I would not recomend this book to beginers or power users, this book is for people who know how to code and want to develop robust enterprise class Access applications. It has the best coverage of Access security, Access forms and controls, On-the-fly report formatting, database replication control at the code level, source code control using Sourcesafe, writing add-ins and code libraries, using the Windows API. You name it - its in here.
Spring 2000 I looked over several books on VBA for Access 97 before asking my supervisor to purchase this one. Most of the databases that I have designed since learning VBA for Access 97 require a good level of security and audit tracking. I've used the password change routines in all my databases. It was also much more helpful in resolving problems and finding solutions to what I wanted to do than Access' on line help. Just yesterday I referred to give me tips on using calendar selection of date ranges.
This book does not provide you with VB instructions going into a heavy delimited file with garbage in it. It does basic VB. Stripping off items in a text/notebook. It does not go into. You can learn more by creating simple Macros and letting access make the VB. Plug and play with the code. Add code of your own. It was OK, not great would not recommend if you are a beginner.
Brilliant book - concise, comprehensive and accurate. The chapter on class modules changed my life! Well almost.
