Accidentally in Love by Laura Drewry

Fans of Jill Shalvis and Susan Mallery will love Laura Drewry’s warm and humorous new Friends First romance, a sexy romp about a good cop and a bad girl playing hard to get.
Ellie Palmer and cops don’t mix, and getting pulled over by Officer Brett Hale—again—doesn’t help. Neither does being forced to take a safe-driving course with him. Brett’s by-the-book attitude leaves Ellie ice-cold, and his rock-hard body won’t change that. Still, the more time she spends with the guy, the more she finds herself warming up to his unexpected charms.
Even though Brett comes off like a boy scout, Ellie has sparked something he wants badly enough to get him to rethink his past mistakes. But when her ex shows up, Brett makes it his mission to keep Ellie safe in the here and now. His gut tells him the guy’s trouble, and Ellie must agree, because she doesn’t complain when Brett pulls her close. To keep her safe, though, he’ll have to choose between breaking her heart . . . and breaking the rules.

This story has it all, great friends, bittersweet romance, suspense, and lots of emotions. Brett and Ellie are hard not to like. They cracked me up from the get go, with the rather open animosity between them. Ellie just can't drive by the speed limits, and Brett follows the rules to the dot. Thus, Ellie loses her license after too many speeding tickets. Add to that the fact that Ellie's mother shows up at her doorsteps, saying she is leaving her father, Ellie's just about had enough. Until her ex shows up, unexpectedly since Ellie though he was still in prison. When Ellie and Brett start acting as a fake couple, to draw the creepy ex, Kurt, out, things get even more interesting. Since both Brett and Ellie have been harboring a secret attraction towards each other. The things Kurt, the ex, is rather eerie, the way the danger is built up, the stalking is getting more and more personal by stages, is like a nightmare happening to Ellie. I had chills at some of the scenes, the fear and malice presence is so palpable. The support of the friends is solid, they all are willing to do whatever it takes to keep Ellie safe. Brett and Ellie get to know each other well, while acting as a couple to the whole town. They are adorable together, the chemistry, heat, and connection is present from the start, and just building on as the story continues. The humor in the story is fantastic. I laughed out loud, and I don't mean just a burst of laugh, I'm talking about laughing until you can't breath with tears in your eyes. Never has this happen with a book before, and with this story it happened twice. But there are touching, moving scenes as well, that took my breath away. So when you mix a group of great friends, who look out for each other, delightful romance, likable characters, and a touch of thriller you get Accidentally in Love ~ Five Spoons!

Really enjoyed this book! Something about the characters just pulled me in. They were believable. I kind of wished there was a little more angst and darkness, especially when it came to Kurt, but that's just me. Very good book overall!

I loved the story, I loved the characters! Brett/Ponch/Dudley was great! I could of used some smiles out of him, but, still loved him, except for the fact that he took entirely too long to make things happen! Great story, just need more!!

Loved ACCIDENTALLY IN LOVE! After reading How Forever Feels (the 4th Friends First book from Laura Drewry) I just had to read Ellie and Brett's story. Me? I love a character with a quick, dry wit (sarcastic mouth) it's the type of humor I love in a friend and a book friend too. Ellie is a force of nature. I just love this character's personality and wit. I will paraphrase Maya's description of her, "She is "lippy" but once you get past that you see what a wonderful person she truly is." And she had nothing on Brett. He might have been more of the quiet type, but he was Ellie's perfect match. This was more of an enemies to friends story, since Ellie hates cops and Brett is one. I'm pretty sure all the times she told him, and others, to shove their badges... well, she definitely wasn't making friends, lol. But when old trouble finds her again she finds herself in the company of "Ponch" for her own safety. The sparks from the attraction these two had was impossible to ignore, even for Ellie. The Friends First gang I loved in How Forever Feels are all here, Ellie, Jayne, Regan, Maya, and their men. And Laura Drewry tells their stories with hilarious dialogue, great storylines, steamy sexin' scenes, and a very smooth writing style that had this reader feeling like I was right there amidst friends. ACCIDENTALLY IN LOVE can be enjoyed all on it's own, but I warn you, you will be hooked and immediately in search of the other stories in this series. 4.5 stars ~Complimentary copy downloaded from NetGalley in exchange for a honest review.

Don't get me wrong I love long books and I love romantic stores. But the author dragged the story on so long and I just wasn't a fan or this book

I’ve read only one previous book in this series, but you can jump in at any time when you need a fun romance with a sassy heroine and  a touch of steam, this is one to check out!  Drewry has a deft hand with characterization, giving her characters solid voices, and personalities with issues and obstacles to keep them real.  Humor is a highlight, those unexpected moments that bring a giggle or a  full-on laugh to cut the tension from the angst-filled moments. Perfectly paced with some cameo appearances from characters in the earlier stories to add to the sense of “friendship’ that is a solid element of the story.  Elle finally gets her story in the third installment – she’s a favorite of mine with her sharp wit and PhD in sarcasm, but it is her loyalty to  her friends and her solid sense of self that make her someone you want to know.    Brett is a cop, and simply because he’s a cop, Elle can’t stand him. She really doesn’t want to give him a chance, and their interactions are oil and water.  But, when she needs the police, and Brett is the one who comes forward: she discovers that the man is much more than the uniform.  There was a TON of interplay between these two as they came to know and care for one another, their friends to lovers relationship develops steadily: perhaps a bit slowly to tip over to romance, but when they find their footing….. Oh Holy Cows and Cheese.  I love the  insets of steam, never over the top or overdone, that are placed at the perfect point for the characters, not feeling rushed or crossing over that insta-love line. This is a wonderful installment in the series and a group of friends that you should rush out to meet.  I received an eArc copy of the title from the publisher via NetGalley for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review : all conclusions are my own responsibility.

Cute and fun, I enjoyed it from beginning to end! I loved the slow build from acquaintances to lovers. Ellie and Brett's banter is funny and their sexual tension sometimes comes through as part of that. Can be read as a standalone, but I'd love to go back and read the first two books in the series about their friends Jayne, Nick, Carter and Regan. Recommended if you're looking for a light read. 4.5 stars ARC via NetGalley

This was a sweet romance. Ellie has a lead foot and keeps getting tickets for speeding. This upsets her but what really sets her off is she hates officers. After her ex was arrested for selling drugs, the cops treated her poorly as they thought she was involved. So she moved but she hates cops. Officer Brett IS hot but he's a cop. When her license is revoked, Ellie must take a driving course run by Officer Brett. When Ellie's ex is released early from prison, he comes back for her. Now Ellie has to swallow her distrust and dislike and depend upon Officer Brett and the small town's police force to protect her. *I received this book through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Wow! I loved this book! I don't know that I can put into words how I felt while reading it. Ellie Palmer has a strong dislike for cops, for a good reason and Officer Brett Hale keeps on pulling her over for speeding. When Ellie's past catches up with her Brett has to step in to help keep Ellie safe. These two had me rooting from them from the beginning. They made me laugh, tear up and go awww. I don't like to give to much of the story away but I would definitely recommend this book. Laura Drewry is officially on my must read author list. This is the 3rd novel in the Friends First novel and I enjoyed catching up with Jayne, Nick, Regan, Carter and Maya. I can't wait for Maya's story! Perhaps Griffin Carr? I received a copy of the book from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.

A laugh out loud small town contemporary romance that will you smiling for a long time after you are done reading. Ellie has had several mishaps with the police and does not trust them. When she has to depend on Brett, "Ponch" the local policeman, for protection from her ex, she starts to find more brewing between them in the name of attraction. Loved the banter from these two, I promise, you too will be laughing. This is my first book from the author, and now will be reading the rest. Another excellent story from author Laura Drewry, it tells the story of Ellie and Brett. Poor Brett, he is a local cop who, unfortunately, is the one who keeps catching Ellie speeding until she ends up without a ride. This is a people who can't stand each other to friends to more than friends. Besides the story, my favorite parts were the quotes from cop shows or movies, like Justified and Kojak. It is part of a series but you don't need to read the others to enjoy. It will want you to go and buy the other two stories though. Love it!

4.5 stars The Friends First series keeps getting better and better, loved Accidentally in Love. Loved the characters and storyline, Laura Drewry has once again given her readers a wonderful and enjoyable storyline with believable and relatable characters that will make their way into your heart. Ellie and Brett's story had me laughing from the first page, I knew I was going to enjoy seeing these two get together. I loved seeing them come from enemies to friends to lovers.  I just couldn't put this book down. While Accidentally in Love can be read as a standalone I highly recommend you read the previous books because like me you'll enjoy the friendships and banter so much more =) I seriously cannot wait for Maya's book How Forever Feels love that girl!

To say Ellie Palmer doesn't like cops would be being really nice, she hates them is more like it. Only problem is she has a lead foot and has run ins with one cop repeatedly he seems to have it out for her and his last time pulling who over is no exception to that rule. Problem is now she is forced to interact with a cop because of her ticket, and then part of her past comes and faces her and she knows she has no where to turn to or does she.   Brett Hale has one nemesis speeding and has no problem pulling people over who do it. His moto is safety first. He is not sure what Ellie's problem is and wants to know why she has it out for cops its not like its a secret that she doesn't want anything to do with them. When Brett is faced with solving a case involving Ellie he knows he need to prove to her not  all cops are bad and not all cops have it out for her.  This is a really fun book it starts off strong and stays that way till the end of the book. Ellie and her craziness is fun, the interactions she has with her crazy friends is no exception to the rule. The chemistry between the characters starts off not even there really and builds up to amazing its not a slow process but prefect. I think the only thing I can say about the book I did not like was the book could have done with out so much of the cursing. Over all this book is fun and really enjoyable. The pace is steady and you find yourself having a hard time putting it down.

Ellie Palmer loathes Constable Brett Hale. He’s a cop, and he constantly pulling Ellie over for speeding, and giving her a ticket. Of course she was speeding, and deserved those tickets, but it didn’t stop her from calling him Dudley Do Right, Poncherello. But this last time he pulled her over he found out that her license had be suspended for three months because of all her tickets. Now she has to take a safe driver’s course, but she doesn’t know Brett is the instructor. She’s annoyed that her friends Jayne and Nick have invited him to play on their baseball team. But, he’s worried that their personal problems will affect the ball game. Ellie plays to win, and on the field it’s all about the game. Brett being a cop, has looked her record up to see what other violations she may have. He found out she had been arrested for drug possession. He gets to wondering why. It seems her previous boyfriend, Kurt, dealt drugs out of garage, and stored some at their apartment. When they were busted, she was arrested along with the boyfriend.  When the old boyfriend is released from jail, he makes a bee line for Ellie, and stalks her. Ellie tells Kurt she’s involved with someone new. This makes it perfect for Brett to play the new boyfriend to draw Kurt out to arrest him.  This brings on some comical scenes between them. Also some romantic moments. I thought this was a sweet romance. But there were no sex scenes until the end of the story. But that is explained why through the story. I was given a copy of this book for an honest review by NetGalley.

I absolutely loved it!!!! I read it in one sitting, and stayed up entirely way to late to finish it! I love small town romances, so I loved that aspect, and all the characters are fun and wonderful. This book was really sweet with bits of humor, and drew me into the character's lives. I adored the main female character, Ellie, and think she was fun, likable, and overall an excellent person. From her Walking Dead pajamas to her refreshingly blunt honesty, she was a joy to read about. I love the chemistry between her and Brett, the main male character, they are so cute together, and I love how they didn't play games with each other; they were just real with each other. The relationship between the two was one I could definitely get behind, and I had no issues with Brett or Ellie, and the build up of their romance was perfectly done, and I desperately wanted them work out, and felt bad when things weren't coming together. Having the added element of Ellie's Ex causing issues, and I was hooked, I do wish a bit more happened with that storyline, but that in no way derailed my supreme enjoyment of this book. It's nice to have characters who make intelligent decisions, and don't just fly off the handle and make stupid mistakes because they think they know best, and I am so happy when there is an alpha male who isn't completely overbearing in books; they can be strong without having to prove how macho they are. This is the first book I've read in this series, and I glad this came my way, I am definitely going to read the previous books and any future book. The characters from previous books are in this book, and although I would've liked to read those first, I don't feel it deterred at all from my enjoyment of reading this book. Alright I gushed enough, this was just perfect! Love!

Ellie Palmer’s past run-ins with the cops have left her with an intense dislike for the boys in blue and being continually pulled over and ticketed by Officer Brett Hale does nothing to change her opinion. It gets even worse when her license is suspended and she is forced to take a safe driving course with none other than Officer Hale. She thinks that Brett is cold, rigid and by the book but tries to get along with him as much as she can for the sake of the friends they share and when her past comes back to haunt her, Brett is the one person she can count on protect her. Brett understands why Ellie has such a dislike for cops but he just can’t help needling her all the time and her lead foot and mouthy attitude do not help, causing him to write her a lot of tickets. When Ellie is forced to join his safe driving class, he sees a different side to her personality and when her safety is threatened, he does not trust that anyone else can protect her. I usually don’t like starting a series in the middle but the blurb and cover for this book caught my attention and ACCIDENTALLY IN LOVE is exactly what I expected: a sweet, cute and lighthearted romance filled with smile-inducing dialogue. Ellie is a smart aleck and quick witted but has quite the mouth on her and Brett has my respect for taking her digs for as long as he did. However, her lippy attitude hides a smart and likable character. Brett’s stoic exterior hides a kindhearted man who has been shaped by his past experiences to always put safety first and he is determined to keep Ellie safe despite her disdain for speed limits. But underneath all that is a sexy and charming guy. Ellie and Brett are characters anyone can relate to and I enjoyed seeing them discover more about each other as they spend time together and look past the walls they both have up, especially when they are forced to fake a relationship in order to protect Ellie. The witty banter between them was fun to read and I liked that there was very little drama as their relationship progressed from enemies to friends to a romantic one. The fun for me in reading ACCIDENTALLY IN LOVE lay in the journey that Ellie and Brett took to discover that the one person they had each been searching for was right there all this time. Accidentally in Love by Laura Drewry is the third book in her Friends First series. It was another sweet and humorous tale by Laura of friends who become more as they finally get to know each other. Readers of this series have met Ellie and Brett before in the previous two books but you don't have to read the previous books to enjoy reading this one. Ellie has had several set backs in her life, both with family (major disappointments) and her choice in boyfriends (again major disappointments). Now having moved to a new town and opened her own business she has began her life anew. She really is strong, snarky and independent and her girlfriends are her support system in the best possible way. Brett is a by-the-book policeman and though he has noticed Ellie he knows that she dislikes cops. He knows her backstory, so he understands it. What Ellie doesn't know is how hard he worked to read her case history and try to bring some kind of resolution to it for her. Both of these characters were relatable for me and I really enjoyed watching this relationship develop from "frenemies", to friends and then to lovers. I appreciated that Laura took her time with this couple's relationship so that I could understand both of their viewpoints. The ex-boyfriend stalking Ellie's was an enjoyable plot element for me that kept this story moving. I was given an ARC by NetGalley and the publisher, Penguin/Random House, in exchange for an honest review.

Loved this latest installment in the Friends First series. This author has a great way of telling a story and keeping your interest all the way through the book. In this one we have Ellie Palmer, who moved to town to start over and get away from her past. Unfortunately her past has found her. The only person who can really help her is her nemesis Officer Brett Hale. She really has no problem with Brett, other than he's a cop and she doesn't trust cops. Ever! And this particular one seems to take great pleasure in stopping her every time he sees her on the road. The witty banter between these two make this at times a laugh out loud read. I really felt their chemistry flare to life as their relationship changed. This book is wonderfully written and will definitely give you hours of entertainment. I highly recommend it.

This is a deep, scary story. I liked this story but it was tough in places. Laura has kept the reader of edge with this story line. You may or may not need some tissues. Brett works for the RCMP. He is writing up Ellie for speeding and finds she has a suspended license. She has always disliked him and nothing changes here. He likes her and does his best to help her. She hates cops because her ex lover was caught selling heroin. She didn't know and nobody, even her lawyer father, wouldn't help her. She has run cross country to get away from her ex who is now a stalker. Major Spoilers. They are thrown together to try to catch him. Laura has developed tough people. This was a smooth read. It is a medium length book. Don't let this one get away! I have this book for an honest review for NetGalley.
