There’s no such thing as a little in love . . .

Elle Wheaton’s priorities: friends, career, and kick-ass shoes. Then there’s the muscular wall of stubbornness that’s security expert Archer Hunt—who comes before everything else. No point in telling Mr. “Feels-Free Zone” that, though. Elle will just see other men until she gets over Archer . . . which should only take a lifetime . . .

There’s no such thing as a little in lust . . .

Archer’s wanted the best for Elle ever since he sacrificed his law-enforcement career to save her. Their chemistry could start the next San Francisco earthquake and he craves her 24/7, but Archer doesn’t want to be responsible for the damage. The alternative? Watch her go out with guys who aren’t him . . .

There is such a thing as . . .

As far as Archer’s concerned, nobody is good enough for Elle. But when he sets out to prove it by sabotaging her dates, she gets mad—and things get hot as hell. Now Archer has a new mission: prove to Elle that her perfect man has been here all along . . .

Elle has known Archer since she was a teenager. He had saved her but hasn't seen her for 11 years. Has stayed away but has been helping her with college and getting her job. Jill has developed these characters so you feel like you are part of their life. You must read to discover if Love or Hate is the ending. Joy943

Jill Shalvis never fails in delivering stories full of unrequited love or livers who need to discover who they really love. In this book, Elle and Archer have to learn to admit that their feelings for each other are affected by their personal backgrounds, and if they allow themselves to really look into each other, they will see the love they actually have for each other.

Like striking two flints, it’s immovable force (Archer) meets impenetrable object (Elle). Stubborn and driven - a favorite! Elle and Archer – the two literally have sparks flying at every encounter. Like striking two flints, it’s immovable force (Archer) meets impenetrable object (Elle). Stubborn and driven, these two are the caretakers of the group. Elle with a past that doesn’t allow her to open or accept anyone easily has allowed the people of the Pacific Pier building to become her friends, and her responsibility. Archer, former cop and now heading a security firm is ALWAYS watching out for everyone he knows, and that includes Elle, after his first encounter with her some eleven years prior. Getting to know Elle has been an experience. She had a crappy childhood: absent father, grifter mother and an older sister that she, for years, looked out for. Rescued from a dangerous, if not foolhardy, situation when she was 16, Archer abandoned the orders of his superior officers to spirit her away from danger and potential arrest. She has always felt indebted to Archer, a feeling she despises as in her newly created life she is independent, in control, trustworthy, competent and unaccountable to no one. Archer’s rescue of Elle when she was a 16 year old child was the tipping point for him, showing him that he would always follow his own moral code and protect those who needed it, even as those decisions may not align with his superior officers in the police. He left the police department after rescuing Elle, to set up his own very successful and in demand security firm. E’s never lost sight of her though, attracted to her, amazed by her, and worrying for her. Now both are adults, they are constantly in contact at the building, and the sparks have them both discombobulated. Archer can’t get Elle out of his mind, and can’t actually connect to his actual feelings to not grunt, order and especially romance her. Elle can’t get past their very first encounter, and slowly is discovering his involvement in her life ever since that night. She’s feeling like his obligation, no matter how strong the pull between them, or her girly parts dancing the lambada every time she sees or thinks of him. Oh so darn fun – these two can’t get out of their own way to see what’s best for them, even if everyone, including ALL their friends and his very alpha set of employees are reading it like a neon billboard. Slowly both of them reveal their fears, and with plenty of back and forth, a bit of danger, a farting dog (one too many breakfast sandwiches) and a gunshot wound, Archer finally learns to speak for what he wants, in ways that Elle can hear. Plenty of advice (reluctant and otherwise) from the friends who know their match is perfection, their story comes full circle with plenty of smiles, steam and the perfect happy ending. I received an eArc copy of the title from the publisher via Edelweiss for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.

This series is totally worth the time and money . Each book is stand-alone but I highly recommend reading them in order due to the friendships and history the characters have with each other. I like that, although there's sex in the book, it's not the focal point. The storyline is strong, funny, emotional and extremely well written. I highly recommend this whole series. I also highly suggest Ms. Shalvis' Animal Magnetism series!!

This is the third installment of the Heartbreaker Bay Series. It is a stand alone book and this series does not have to be read in order. This is the story of Elle Wheaten and Archer Hunt. The book has banter that is witty, trash talking between friends that is LOL and enough action that keeps it real. Characters in this book are life-like and lovable and I like how previous characters are brought in and we are updated on them. Elle and Archer are like oil and water when together. Each one wants to be the boss and the both of them cannot deny how hot the other is and how hard it is to keep their hands to themselves. Their friends and co-workers see how crazy they are for each other but know to stay out of it. We are taken on a one of a kind ride to find out how these two go from tolerating each other to knock down drag out chemistry and finally a love of a lifetime. Jill Shalvis does romantic comedy like no other and with just one book read you are hooked!

Whenever I don't know what I am in the mood to read, I always look to Jill Shalvis and her books. They always enter and never disappoint. Such is the case with Accidentally on Purpose, the third book in her Heartbreaker Bay series. You don't have to read these books in order as each one stands alone and is connected by characters or friends. Archer and Elle are tough. Tough individuals and were a little tough for me to fall in love with at first. The way they avoided each other was somewhat annoying yet I couldn't stop turning the pages and had a difficult time putting the book down. Shalvis' writing is like that. Even if you are not instantly fond of how the characters are acting you still find yourself immersed in their lives and you just can't turn away. As the story played out my heart gave way to Archer and Elle when they both turned a corner on how they were approaching their relationship and letting their guards down a bit. Their chemistry was off the charts and they fell into a comfortable rhythm. Not every relationship is the same in real life which makes books more entertaining when you have a couple like this. Their bickering works for them. They like to push each other. They both like control. Shalvis did an excellent job with these two. The supporting characters in the story are always great and I hope we get more of Joe and Spence in future books! I also adored the tiny bit of suspense this story offered. It was perfect for Archer and Elle's story. If you are looking for a sexy, contemporary romance story, give Accidentally on Purpose a read.

I laughed, swooned and spilt a few tears while being swept away by Jill’s storytelling and Karen’s performance... In Accidentally on Purpose by Jill Shalvis, readers are treated to the long-awaited tale of Elle Wheaten and Archer Hunt, two favorite quint-essentials in the author’s Heartbreaker Bay series. Even though the series is set in picturesque San Francisco, which is not a small town, the stories in the series still have a small town feel because they revolve around the fun atmosphere of Finn O’Riley’s neighborhood bar and the cast of characters is small and close-knit. Each book in this series has been delightful with the magical wishing well situated near Finn O’Riley’s, the close-knit friends, and, of course, the romances. All the books in this series work well as a standalone read if that is your preference. So feel free to jump in anywhere. You will feel right at home. As the story opens, Elle has started dating. But, her dates keep getting sabotaged which she tracks down to Archer’s doing. She sees it as Archer being over-protective and still seeing her as the sixteen-year-old-girl that he had once saved. But, he doesn’t believe any of the men she was to date were good enough for her. Regardless, now there’ll be hell to pay… Elle can rock four-inch heels looking beautiful and quickly scale a ladder while doing so. Archer is strong and big. The chemistry between them has been volcanic from the first. Neither is willing to open up to the other and risk their heart. They’re both headstrong to a fault and each hides behind a facade. Archer reminds her of the person she once was and the person she never wanted to be. In Archer’s mind, no man – including himself – is good enough for Elle. Yet, they’ve been ruined for other relationships from the moment they met. In the previous books, fans have witnessed the frosty relationship between Elle and Archer. Now we get to see what happened in their past to start the ice age between them and tag along for their tumultuous journey to an HEA. You won’t want to miss the camping rescue nor Carl’s kibble-and-bits episode. Karen White returns to narrate Accidentally on Purpose. She never fails to deliver a polished production and bring Jill’s wonderful characters to life. She aces all the voices – male, female and animal. Anytime I see that Karen has narrated a book that I want to read, I always elect to listen rather than read as I know that Karen will enhance my enjoyment of the story. Jill posted on her Facebook page that Accidentally on Purpose is her 101st published work! That’s quite an accomplishment! My goal is to stick around to read her next hundred books as I know that I can count on Jill’s storytelling magic to add a blue sky to a rough day. Her characters never fail to capture my heart and mind. I also know that there will be a heart-fluttering happy ending that will leave me with a huge smile on my face no matter how much angst her characters suffer until then. Her books are my comfort reads and I don’t want to think about where I’d be without them. I highly recommend this book – indeed this whole series - to anyone who enjoys well-written, highly entertaining contemporary romances featuring likable, stubborn and sexy characters. With three new books announced in the series – including two holiday-themed, I’m flying high! My full review is posted at Reading between the Wines Book Club. Please check it out there!

Elle Wheaten has her priorities straight friends, career, and shoes or she thinks she does. Until she's in the presence of the muscular wall of stubbornness, security expert, Archer Hunt, who comes before everything else. From the second they met eleven years ago they've denied their attraction for each other, until she comes into his office to yell at him about squirrels and her sister comes to town. However, she has an idea that consists of dating other men until she's able to get over Archer... which doesn't stand a chance at working. Archer has watched over Elle since the night he sacrificed his law enforcement career in order to save her. She has made something for herself and he doesn't feel like he's good enough for her, so he's standing back and keeping her safe. However, he still wants her and their chemistry is strong enough it could cause an explosion. He stands back wondering if she ever thinks about the night he saved her life and discovers that she carries a part of him with her. The knife he gave her. He's been watching her date other guys and each time sabotages her date in some way, because he can't stand it. When Elle gets mad and things between them start to heat up. Archer has a mission that involves proving to Elle that they're perfect together. Will Elle forgive Archer for his interference? Will the mess Elle's sister has made of her life come back and effect the life Elle has built? Jill Shalvis has written a winner. I love all her books, but this one is my new favorite!! I loved the characters and their interactions especially Spence and Elle they make such great friends. Archer and Elle were hilarious and had some of the best chemistry I've seen in a long time. She may always be mad at him but he takes it in stride and makes up for it. I'm glad that we got to see these two see each other exposed and vulnerable when they try to always be put together and shut off from the rest of the world. Great new book and one I highly RECOMMEND!! Received ARC in exchange for honest review from Edelweiss and Avon Publisher

Accidentally On Purpose is the next book in Jill Shalvis’s Heartbreaker Bay series…get ready for a new book boyfriend! Part of the HB group of friends, Archer Hunt is hotter than hawt, and like most of Ms. Shalvis’s heroes, a complete smarty pants; snark to the max. He has a ton of depth to him and is as broken as the rest of us, in his own way. Elle Wheaton is also one of the group, complete with her own brand of snark. Elle has a lot to work through but she does her best work when she is getting under Archer’s skin. Fun, and chaos, ensue! It’s a great story, one that has much laughter and tears and gut-wrenching moments for both of these characters but it is definitely one you won’t put down once you’ve started to read it. I won’t recap the story but reading this book had me laughing, sniffling, and commenting out loud. I loved these two, and thoroughly enjoyed visiting all the other great characters in the circle of friends and can’t wait to read more from these fun, crazy people.

If a group of friends worked in the same neighborhood, became friends you could rely on, wished on a fountain for love, and then found it, you’d be reading the Heartbreaker Bay series from Jill Shalvis….or watching old episodes of Friends. Regardless, you’d be enjoying the hell out of yourself! As we have gotten to know this group of friends from The Heartbreaker Bay books, we have watched and felt the tension increase between the always stoic yet supremely masculine Archer, and the sassy and always put together Elle. It turns out there’s a reason for that tension. There’s history between them, and that history is a little unexpected! Elle is my favorite type of romance heroine. She is smartly dressed with a shoe fetish. I, too, like shoes! More importantly, she has worked hard to overcome a rough upbringing, and yet is still a great friend to her girlfriends. My favorite books have a solid support group of girlfriends and Jill Shalvis is the Queen of writing great groups of friends. Elle has to work hard to overcome her feelings of insecurity to let herself relax and fall in lust/love with Archer. Sometimes, if a book takes too long with this kind of plot line, I can get annoyed. Ms. Shalvis writes a perfect mix of inner turmoil and reflection, but gets on with the romance pretty quickly. Archer is, well, exactly like you’d want a man named Archer to be. He’s hot, an ex-cop commando type, and supremely alpha. Did I say he’s hot? Hmmm. Yep. Anyways, we’ve been watching this duo dance around each other in the previous books and I am glad we finally got to hear their story! They’ve got great history, and a little bit to overcome, but luckily the heat and heart cannot be denied! This was a sweet and sexy romance. In true Jill Shalvis style, you get a bit of humor with the heart, which I love. It can be read as a stand alone novel, but if you read the others first you’ll feel more of the tension between these two. ❤❤❤❤

Accidentally on Purpose is book three in the Heartbreaker Bay series. I've fallen in love with this group of friends that the series revolves around and had to get Elle and Archer's book. There has been so much tension between the two in the other novels I knew it would be a great read and I wasn't let down. Elle Wheaten is a building manager that is a no nonsense type of gal. I've enjoyed her character in the previous books and was so excited when I heard this was going to be her story. She acts like nothing can ruffle her feathers but it's nice seeing inside her head for a change. In the past few books we get details on Elle and Archer, they're friends that keep denying that they both want a relationship but you can tell they have great chemistry. They butt heads quite a bit since neither wants to give in to the other and I couldn't wait to see who would crack first and admit they wanted something more than friendship. Archer Hunt is the head of a security company that does odd jobs ranging from a stake out to investigations. He's all alpha male and protects his friends no matter the cause. We find out that Elle and Archer actually have a past, he rescued her while she was a teenager from a bad situation and put his law enforcement job on the line. Even now he's looking after her, she's finally given up waiting on Archer and started going on dates only to have Archer scare off the guys. I found that so amusing since he doesn't want to admit he wants her but no one else can have her. One thing leads to another and Elle and Archer finally admit their feelings only to have the past spring up and dangerous situations arise. Accidentally on Purpose is a story about friends becoming lovers with two headstrong characters that want it done their way. I loved how much tension there was between the duo, spats like this in books can easily turn me away from liking a character but this was done really well and enjoyable. Elle's character has been through a lot and I'm glad we got some background on her. I've come to really enjoy this series and would recommend it to fans of Contemporary Romance revolving around a group of friends.

Archer Hunt saved Elle Wheaton from a sting operation and kept her from being prosecuted when she was sixteen. Although his action ended his career as a cop, he never regretted his actions. He watched over her over the years and she met him again while working in the same building. He is not the marrying kind even though the attraction between the two is strong. When Elle decides to go out with other men, Archer sabotages her dates and she sees red. When she confronts him, her anger soon turns to a needing want. It takes a shooting for both to see what everyone else has already seen. They are made for each other and they finally see it. I love the interaction between Archer and Elle. Great story.

The Heartbreaker Bay series by author Jill Shalvis has quickly become a favorite of mine. Jill's an ace at crafting stories that revolve around an eclectic and captivating cast of characters, a world that immediately draws the reader in and makes them feel like a part of the action. ACCIDENTALLY ON PURPOSE is Archer's and Elle's story, and I absolutely loved it. There has been something between Archer Hunt and Elle Wheaten since the night that they met 8 years ago. That something has evolved and changed over time, but it's always been there, and both Elle and Archer know it. Elle holds herself responsible for Archer throwing away his career in order to save her, and Archer feels responsible for Elle, making it his business to keep tabs on her. Stir in a lot of untapped chemistry, and you've got the recipe for one heck of an explosion. I absolutely adore Archer. He doesn't know quite what to do with Elle, but he can't stay away. And Elle, she's one heck of a totally take no prisoners chick, more than capable of taking care of herself and anyone else that comes along. The back-and-forth between them, the tension and heat, makes for some swoony exchanges, and I loved reading their interactions. Add in the awesome and quirky cast of characters that make up the rest of Elle's and Archer's circle of friends, and you've got my favorite kind of read. I really hope that Jill has more in store for us from Heartbreaker Bay, because Spence totally needs a book, as do Kylie and Elle's sister. In the meantime, though, 5 snarky, sexy, super-sleuthy stars. Read this book. Read all of these books, because they are all kinds of awesome, and I couldn't recommend them any more highly.

Loved it! My favorite in the Heartbreaker Series to date. Ellie is the perfect heroine, strong, self reliant, wanting to better herself and beautiful to boot. Of course she would have a very strong "alpha man" And Archer fills the bill to a "T". A great story told with the usual Shalvis style and humor.

This is my most favorite book to date in the A Heartbreaker Bay series. Archer and Ellie's chemistry has been explosive right from the start and we finally get to know the reason for their love-hate relationship. This book is off the charts entertaining and the classic Jill Shalvis' wicked sense of humor and wittiness is found throughout the entire book. Have gotten to know and love the characters of Heartbreaker Bay and am definitely going to miss them. ** I received an eBook copy from the author for the purpose of an honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own.

To summarize: this was an another well written book in this series. I really like Shalvis her writing style and did enjoy this book despite some of the issues I had with it. I didn't really care as much for Elle and Archer as I did about the previous couples and the fight and then kiss type off relationship they had didn't quite work for me. Most of the book they pretended to hate each other to cover up their real feelings. It's armor or shield they sue to protect themselves, but I am not a big fan of those type of romances and found it hard to fully feel the romance because of that. I also felt we got to see less of the side characters in this book and the focus was more firmly on the main characters and a few new side characters. It is very well written and I easily read through this book. I also liked how we got to see more od Spence in this book as he is close to Elle. And I am so excited his book will be next as I really like his characters.

Accidentally on Purpose by Jill Shalvis is the 3rd book in her Heartbreaker Bay series. This book reads perfectly as a standalone. I did not read the first two books, but after meeting some of the characters, I will be going back and read them. This is a sweet romance story that not only centers on the two main characters, but a wonderful outstanding cast of friends that surround them. Elle Wheaton, our heroine, has a successful job working for Spence, one of those friends. Archer Hunt is our hero, who owns his own security firm and privately has always watched over Elle. Elle has known Arch for many years, since he once saved her life, and lost his police job in the process. Both of our heroes act like they can’t stand each other, but in reality they each have strong feelings for one another, which they are totally oblivious to. Archer, who is very bossy, treats Elle like a kid sister, but when she decides to date some of his workers or friends, he begins to change his tune. Each time she goes out with someone, Archer finds a way to sabotage it. It was fun to watch them constantly bicker, fight and ignore the sizzling chemistry between them. I also enjoyed the camaraderie of their friends, who from far know they are meant for each other. However, no one will dare step in and tell them, since both are extremely headstrong and stubborn. Within this story is a suspenseful situation that revolves around Elle sister, whom she hardly sees. It will take Archer and the gang to team up to help free her from her nemesis. This adds to the excitement, but without a doubt the entire story is about Elle and Archer; their antagonistic attitude to each other and watching it slowly begin to crumble. The sexual tension between them was very well done by Shalvis, which had us rooting hard for them to finally admit how they truly feel. As noted, I loved all the friends and look forward to reading more about each of them, including going back to read about the first two couples. My favorite besides Elle and Archer was Spence. I hope he gets his story soon. Heartbreaker Bay is a great series to enjoy, and I suggest you start with the first book. Accidentally on Purpose was a fun, at times exciting, sexy and enjoyable read. Once again, if you have not read Jill Shalvis, you are missing one of the best romance authors.
