Overview

"Guarantees characters that glow with equal parts wit, sass, and sensuality." Library Journal (Starred Review)

The first in a fun, flirty new series from Mia Sosa!

After a very public breakup with a media-hungry politician, fitness trainer Tori Alvarez escapes to Aruba for rest, relaxation, and copious amounts of sex on the beach—the cocktail, that is. She vows to keep her vacation a man-free zone but when a cute guy is seated next to her on the plane, Tori can’t resist a little harmless flirting.

Hollywood heartthrob Carter Stone underwent a dramatic physical transformation for his latest role and it’s clear his stunning seat mate doesn’t recognize the man beneath the shaggy beard and extra lean frame. Now Carter needs help rebuilding his buff physique and Tori is perfect for the job. It doesn’t hurt that she makes his pulse pound in more ways than one.

Sparks are flying, until a pesky paparazzo reveals Carter’s identity. Tori is hurt and pissed. She wants nothing to do with another man in the limelight, but she’s still got to whip him into shape. Can Carter convince Tori he’s worth the threat to her privacy that comes with dating a famous actor, or will Tori chisel him down to nothing before he even gets the chance?

Grab the popcorn…

Mia Sosa’s dedication mentions her ‘favorite spot in Romancelandia, where happily-ever-afters are guaranteed, love is love, and only cakes are moist”. And every moment of this story (except it didn’t come with cake) were exactly as hoped for. Adorable and oh so sweet, the story moved from moments of angst caused by trust issues through absolutely darling moments of soul-bearing, heartfelt and completely engaging. Carter is an actor, successful in sitcom rom-coms, but wanting to have something ‘more’, in stretching his skills and talents. Wrapping up a particularly grueling part where he lost 40 pounds and gained a scraggly ZZ Topp-like beard, he needed to ‘decompress’ and heads to Aruba for a getaway. The girl in 12D (as Carter instantly names her) is the woman he’s going to marry. OK, so marry is stretching it, but her curls, smile and curves are instantly sending his brain into overdrive and his foot into his mouth. Tori (not short for Victoria) is a personal trainer, off to Aruba to lick her wounds after her politician boyfriend dismissed and discounted their relationship on a local radio show, without discussing it with her first. Uncomfortable with the public eye on her relationship, she’s on the island to relax and regroup. From the flight in through adorable moments of miscommunication, flares of attraction and some truly wonderful moments with Carter’s best friend and agent, Tori’s bosses and her best friend Eva, and an ever-wonderful and truly incomparable personal assistant, the story is full of characters to enjoy and moments that bring everyone to life. It’s not all smooth sailing through: Tori’s not comfortable with the press attention that surround the star, Carter has had too many people wanting to use him, his fame or his money for their own gains. Neither is particularly able, until it is clearly pointed out to them by best friends, to see where their own issues are the only wall in what could be a life, not perfect but far happier together than alone. A read in one sitting story that had me up far into the night as I started it late, the ability of Sosa to incorporate different approaches to work and life, culture and food, and the clearly stated (and wholly honest) “they’re speaking Spanish to talk about you, but it’s complimentary so don’t worry” statement that could be applied in so many situations! With that clear inclusion of life as it is in the real world, diverse, multilingual and rainbow colored, and the beautiful storytelling, Sosa is now an author on my must-buy list. I received an eArc copy of the title from the publisher via Edelweiss for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.

Such a fun read! Carter and Tori-not-short-for-Victoria are highly relatable characters (even though I'll never be even a D-list actor and a physical trainer? Ha! Not in this lifetime...) The glimpse we get into their heads here makes them both seem human, lovable, and flawed--not to mention self-depreciating and wickedly funny. Even as you're rolling your eyes at Carter's initial "Someday I'm going to marry the woman sitting in 12D" (in the book's very first paragraph, nonetheless) to his "my wife is dead to me" internal wail about, oh, ten minutes later, you can see their potential. And once they start actually getting to know each other? The chemistry is knock-your-socks-off fantastic. There are, of course, all kinds of problems--Carter's initial deception and Tori's fear of another public-spectacle of a romance, his fear of being used for his celebrity status and her family issues--but they're dealt with realistically and believably here. And don't even get me started on the grand gesture, because OMG it's one for the big screen if I've ever read one. Add in some really solid secondary characters (I love Carter's entire family--surely his divorced big sis can get her own story too, since little sis's book is next?) and this is one fun way to spend a weekend. Acting on Impulse was my first book from Ms. Sosa, but absolutely not my last--and not just because I need to read the stories of secondary characters (Carter's agent/ BFF) Julian, (Carter's baby sis) Ashley, (Tori's BFF) Eva, and (Tori and Eva's boss) Nate, but because I definitely must read more from this author! Rating: 4 stars / A- I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

Acting on Impulse is book 1 in the Love on Cue series. This is my first Mia Sosa novel and won't be my last. I thought she did a wonderful job and I have to say I loved that this book is a diverse contemporary romance. I'm always wanting more diverse reads and this one was a great fit. Toss in the celebrity love interest and you have my full attention. Tori Alvarez is a fitness trainer that is heading to Aruba after an embarrassing break up. Her ex decided during an interview to say he wasn't dating anyone much to Tori's surprise. Now she's determined not to date anyone in the limelight anymore. That's where Carter Stone walks in, he's a somewhat famous actor that wants Tori the second he sees her on the plane. They hit it off until his real identity is revealed and I was really wondering how they'd wind back together at that point. Carter needs to get toned and pack on some weight for a potential role and after some back and forth Tori winds up being his trainer. We see their desire to be with one another grow with each page and I couldn't wait until they broke down and finally got together. Acting on Impulse is a diverse contemporary romance that is a must buy. I loved how the author wrote Tori's character being Puerto Rican without shoving it down your throat or relying on stereotypes. The family aspect was done quite well too, I felt Tori's family leaned towards a realistic feel when the tension between them appeared. Though my favorite bits throughout the book had to be the tension between Tori and Carter while they weren't an item. If you're looking for a steamy diverse romance make this your next read.

After a very nasty, very publicized break-up Tori Alvarez is done with men for a long while, and is in grave need of a little R&R, so she buys herself a ticket Aruba with intentions of getting her reboot on. But then she meets a very alluring gentlemen on her flight, that turns her carefully planned world upside down... Carter Stone is use to having his every move monitored, it comes with the territory when your a Hollywood heartthrob, but these days looking at him you would never know he was a star. He's flying under the radar these days, and headed to Aruba for a much needed break from his busy life. He needs a little reboot of sorts, and the moment he meets a very sexy, and very feisty Tori Alvarez he knows she is the perfect woman to help recharge his batteries...in more ways than one! Acting On Impulse is a sassy and sultry read that is sure to spice up readers lives and leave their toes permanently curled!! The moment I started this one I was hooked, the feisty banter between these two not only made things awfully steamy, it also had me laughing out aloud more times than I could count... it was amazing!! This is my first read from this author and I have to say she totally won me over with this one, it was such a fun read, I loved every minute of it! It had a good mix of everything I look for in a romance read and then some, it had emotion, heat, and two characters that I couldn't help but fall for... highly recommend this one!! I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this title.

Mia Sosa is a ray of sunshine. She uses her quick wit and irresistible talent to brighten up the world of romance. Acting On Impulse is destined to be a classic. Where else can a smidge of fantasy lead to a dose of reality? Tori has a history of falling for the wrong guys. Her heart is all in, but reality doesn't measure up to the fairy tale in her head. In need of a little rest and relaxation after a draining split, she takes a vacation. A little beach, a little fun and a hot stranger. Who knew fun in the sun could be so enticing? Everything is coming up roses, until her love in bloom encounters a thorn. Carter and Tori are a temptation that must be enjoyed.
