By far, the best book on addiction I have ever read. With two family members suffering from addiction, it clarified so many things for me and made me feel sane. I will keep this book and refer to it many times for years to come.

This book allowed me to see that there are others, in all walks of life, who are going through the same situations and feelings that I am. I've been so ashamed, so it has been very helpful to know I'm not alone. For those experiencing or realizing they have a loved one who is addicted, I would highly recommend reading the book. The author has lived it but also brings in other resources to add to the understanding. My husband bought this for me - what a great choice!

I read this book for a counselor education course and found it to be a fairly quick read. As a student, it gave me a lot of insight towards working both with addicts and their families, and I also found a few of the comparisons made between addiction and other disorders to be different from anything I'd learned about before, which was refreshing.

I am reading this book for school. This is as real as it can get. My entire family is plagued with addiction or enabling. I gave it to make entire family. It woke them up a little bit and they are changing for the better. If you know anyone that has an addict in the family this is a must read.

This is a great book, and will provide tremendous support and information for families struggling with a family member who is abusing or addicted to substances. The family stories were heartbreaking, but helps readers understand this devastating disease. As a substance abuse treatment professional, I will recommend this book to all of the families I work with. I have also recommended it to several addicts themselves to help them get a better perspective on what addiction looks like from a someone elses eyes.
