About the Author

Maria T. Codina Leik, MSN, ARNP, FNP-C, AGPCNP-BC, is the president and principal lecturer at National ARNP Services, Inc. (npreview.com). Well known for her ability to simplify complex concepts for her students, she is a popular speaker and educator. Ms. Leik taught previously in the nurse practitioner (NP) program at Florida International University Graduate School of Nursing. She is board certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) and the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Certification Board (AANPCB) in two specialties: family NP and adult-gerontology primary care NP. She is an experienced NP with more than two decades of clinical practice. In addition to her two NP certification review books published by Springer Publishing Company, Ms. Leik is the author of chapters in two NP textbooks and is a member of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing.

The book covers information related to specific certification exam information, test-taking techniques, question dissection and analysis, review of primary care disorders, and sample exam questions.
Purpose: The book is designed to improve the productivity of readers while preparing for the certification exam. It will help to improve the quality of the review, but is not intended to decrease the total study time. The purpose is to prepare readers for either the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) adult nurse practitioner board certification exams. These are valuable objectives and the author does a nice job of meeting them.
Audience: The audience is readers preparing to take an ANP board certification exam. The author has been a leader in the area of exam preparation education and counseling for almost 20 years.
Features: The first of the book's four main sections provides clear information about the exams. This section should provide the reader with virtually all the answers to questions related to applying and speeding up the certification exam process. The next section focuses on helping readers improve in question dissection and analysis. The third section is a review of primary care topics in a fast facts format. The final section provides questions and answers for self assessment. It may be helpful for the author to consider adding to the answer section a cross reference back to the appropriate topic area in case a reader is in need of further review of that specific material.
Assessment: This is a well written, comprehensive review aimed at preparing readers for successfully completing a board certification exam.
