About the Author

Colette Carner has been the leader of an anxiety support group since 2006. She writes honestly about her personal experience of recovering from panic disorder with agoraphobia. Her professional life was teaching English and working in two libraries, but it is her work with other phobics that has given her the most pleasure. None of this would have been possible without the help of her loving husband Ken.

Poorly edited (punctuation, misspellings, etc.). Didn't get the permission of the people in her anxiety group to print these things about their lives. Actually didn't even tell them they were being written about for years by her in publications all over the world before compiling them into a book. Poorly written. Most of it is about church, not really helpful for those who don't attend church.

ALL of the stories that are not the author's herself, are stolen from the anxiety group members. She published these stories first in her publisher's newsletter, WITHOUT the permission of ANY person, OR even informing them that she did it, YEARS before she put them into a book. Then her friend (who is her publisher) asked her to put them all into a book, and ONLY when it was days away from publication, did she inform her anxiety group she was publishing the book. She did NOT bring any story about the anxiety group members to show us, and made it sound like it was only little stuff she included in the book. At first, we laughed about it, but then we found the book was already published. So I bought it and much to my surprise, all my friend's stories were in there, laid out for the world to see. Every little detail of their private lives with anxiety. These weren't the author's stories to tell. These were the private, personal stories of the group members, that she STOLE without asking and published in full. Think about it...if you had joined a anxiety SUPPORT GROUP, where "What is said here, stays here" (in the author's words she repeated at every single group), would you want your private, personal, and embarrassing life experiences (and a couple DID say they were thoroughly ashamed of what was printed about them in this book) put in a book for all to see? Anyone who knew we attended the author's anxiety group would know who is who and would have access to our private lives that we only share in group, as the author's name was printed on the book, as well as her city. One members sister DID get a hold of the book and read what her sister's issues were, much to her embarrassment. The author should have warned us she was writing own our stories. She should have had us sign a waiver. But, then she'd have no group. Because NOBODY in their right mind would sign a waiver giving a group leader permission to share their private stories that are said in group to publish into a book. And then we have the publisher. Who is SO unprofessional that she has to take the description of the author's book and explain things that nobody even knows about??? What kind of publisher DOES that? Being a professional author myself, I know just how asinine this is. And I hope nobody buys this book nor gives this women ONE MORE CENT for ruining the lives of our anxiety group members. I hope you are all satisfied with yourselves. Keep on defending the author, keep telling yourself she did the right thing. When you could care less about the people the author hurt.

Great book Very helpful. Written very well and NO it's not about church but does have maybe 2 stories of her church adventures. I loved the stories are only one to one and a half pages long. It has helped me know there are other people going through the same things as I am. I don't feel as lonely as I did. Loved it was written with humor and for the sole purpose of helping others. I'd say in the 6 years the support was in effect only 11 stories the most helpful to us and special to Colette were used. I found I couldn't put down the book and wished at the end for more of her stories. Best book I've ever read on Panic disorder and agoraphobia. A must read for all who have this condition and especially for those who treat it.
