Description: The authors cover a wide range of cosmetic procedures in this book, some of which would not be performed by the average dermatologist. An entire chapter is devoted to breast augmentation and mastoplexy techniques. Ample diagrams show the steps for the various surgeries. The chapters all discuss complications of the procedures and make suggestions on how to minimize unsatisfactory results. How to evaluate and select patients who are appropriate candidates for a given cosmetic procedure is also covered. The color clinical photographs are of very good quality.
Purpose: The purpose is to give dermatologists a better understanding of what is involved when offering and discussing cosmetic rejuvenation procedures.
Audience: The audience is cosmetic dermatologists. The book is too simplified for plastic surgeons.
Features: Helpful tips and techniques in administering botox and dermal fillers are patiently explained. Many photographs illustrate before and after treatment results as well as complications. Wound care and patient instructions are nicely detailed in every chapter. The best features are the discussions of patient selection, preoperative considerations, and potential risks associated with all the surgeries and procedures. Readers will still need to refer to a specialty text to learn the specifics of a particular method. Although the principles and steps are discussed, it is not in enough detail for one to confidently perform the procedure.
Assessment: This book provides a good overview of the multitude of cosmetic approaches available for use in cosmetic patients.
