Composer Michael Hoppé collaborated with Swiss cellist Martin Tillman on THE POET and with British flutist Tim Wheater on THE YEARNING and THE DREAMER, all concept pieces based on dramatic photographic portraits of Hoppé's grandfather. No visual theme assembled the trio for this haunting yet blissful set of improvisations. Hoppé's keyboard work may not be as melodic as on his previous albums, but his rich orchestral soundscapes provide a lustrous, echoing surface for the two soloists. Tillman's cello swims comfortably in the lower registers; he drives gutsy drones into the sound fabric, and his biting rhythms expose cavernous spaces. But when he tackles melodies in the higher ranges, his strings take flight. Wheater soars, too, offering the warm wooden sounds of Native American flutes and the more burnished tones of the silver concert flute. AFTERGLOW creates a serene, soulful cocoon that you won't want to leave.

The music on the album is so crisp and beautiful. I wore out the last copy and had to buy another one. This album is perfect to just listen and relax. The tone is so calming. This album is a favorite in my music collection!
This contribution to the music world should be a classic. Improvised cello and flute nurtures and empowers the listner to motion. It creates a calmness and at the same time instills the need to move. To dance and move Chi.
This soothing mix of the Cello and the Native American Flute is just amazing. I love to relax to this beautiful yet haunting music to a nice hot bubble bath with candles luminating the room and just let all my worries melt away.
This cd is plain gorgeous. There is a "Native Spiritual Feel" to the music.I especially like the flute.it is very calming music to meditate to ,and i also use it to drift off to sleep to.On some of the tracks i immagine a beautiful eagle, soaring in the sky,to the instrument of the flute....calming music,to relax to,at any time.Highly recommended!
