This book is certainly not for anyone who has experienced a suicide of a loved. It talks at length about how a person can be helped when they are feeling helpless and hopeless by another simply reaching out to them. This book is dangerous to a suicide survivor. Just makes them feel more guilty than they did before reading. I say run don't walk from purchasing or reading this book. This book should be addressed to those thinking of committing suicide, certainly not to the survivors. No encouragement found here. Just makes me want to kill myself.

This is a book no counselor should be without. It offers important guidance for recognizing those at risk of suicide and preparation for dealing with suicide when it does happen. Dr. Cox writes from his experience as a survivor of suicide. He begins the book by telling his story of how his father committed suicide. The hurt and loss he felt as a young boy helped him to counsel others as an adult. Dr. Cox and Ms. Arrington illustrate this compassionate book of hope and healing for survivors of suicide with stories of others left behind.

For decades, suicide has been the death no one talks about. AFTERSHOCK dispels misconceptions about suicide, including the belief that people who talk about suicide usually don't follow through. Cox and Arrington offer excellent advice on how to recognize the symptoms of suicidal behavior in teens and respond effectively. The section on explaining a death by suicide to children is especially important. AFTERSHOCK also includes suggestions for suicide intervention and for starting a support group. Anyone who has lost a friend or loved one to suicide, or is suicidal, will find help and Biblically-based encouragement in AFTERSHOCK. This exceptional book will to pastors and counselors and would be an excellent resource in any library.

This book is powerful! It gives the reader a bird¿s eye view of the feelings of pain; frustration and helplessness experienced by anyone who has had a loved one commit suicide. It takes you through the different levels of emotion that the survivor must experience before reaching a place where they can accept the death, realize their inability to stop it, and move forward with their own life. It reveals the scars that are left, but it also gives the reader a glimpse of the healing that can be achieved through understanding the mind-set of a suicidal individual, and also offers helpful tools to do so throughout every chapter. This book is a ¿must¿ for any individual who has had a loved one commit suicide, or anyone who has personally considered that dark exit from this world. It is a testimony to what human beings can endure and overcome through Faith and a persistent spiritual belief.
